Ryan Adam's going deaf

This upset me: "I lost so much on this tour too. It was humbling. I lost most of my hearing in my left ear and possibly some now on the right. It is rather dramatic and something I am going to have to learn to live with and work around. But it is a huge challenge."

Apparently he's been saying how bad it is at a rake of recent gigs.

I worry about deafness all the time due to near constant headphone abuse etc.., I'm only 19 but I feel like I've lost some in the left already.

How do he and Mandy Moore

make their feelings known if he can't hear her?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!/1/1/

Well

I guess not being able to hear her talk/sing IS a major plus, but y'know...

* Adams'

or Adams's... Adams is!

I'm starting to worry about my hearing

because I can't help turning the volume up v.high on my headphones. I actually get twinges of pain in my ears at times.

Just to let everyone know..

I have

this exact same problem.

It scares the fuck out of me, I immediately think I'll be deaf in the next month.

^^^ this

I have it too!

My ipod is always as loud as it goes. Can't be a good thing.

I'm now petrified.

Thanks.

I was going to make a joke about

this explaining all the dross filler he churns out, but this is actually really unfortunate. It'd be horrible to lose your hearing, especially if you're a musician. Is it due to years of noise abuse, or unrelated causes?

In any case, he can always look to Beethoven as en example...

I think he had

problems with cysts and the like in the past, but the impression I got was that playing live on a near-constant basis was responsible... can't help matters anyway. I really like Ryan Adams so the selfish part of me worries about never getting to see him live again, but obviously the main thing is him doing whatever he can to save his hearing.

I think I'd be pretty inconsolable if I went deaf.

Important to be careful

I'm 35 and have been to more gigs than I can recount. Had my hearing tested recently and was astonished to be told it was perfect. I remember coming away from early Manics gigs and having my hearing impaired for 3/4 days and I resolved to stop standing near the speakers. Contemplating earplugs though - the ones that don't muffle everything. You can get fairly decent ones for a tenner.

So true

I consider myself fortunate to have come this far unscathed after years of metal gigs, nights in front of the big speakers at clubs etc. Went to see My Bloody Valentine in the early nineties (Rollercoaster tour) and they were so loud they burst my mates ear drum. Now I think about it it seems foolish we've got tickets to see them in June.
