watched jools the other day and just wondered what everyone thought of Yoav... he's the the acoustic guy who makes dance songs out of loops.
Do you reckon that sort of stuff has a market or is it too gimmicky?

My friend saw him at a bar
in stoke on trent recently. Said he was really impressive.
Alexander tucker does this sort of thing no? Yoav being the obviously more accesible choice..I like this cover

Inexcusable crap,
and covers where is my mind, so much hate for this guy!
Pure gimmicky pish
Terrible nonsense. Idiots watch it and think it's impressive. "Oh look he is making percussive noises with a guitar"..."Oh my god, how's he even doing that, it's playing more than one thing at once?"...etc ad infinitum...
F'sake.
Sadly, it does probably have a market though. It's the kind of thing that people who aren't really into music see and think that everything he is doing with the loop pedal/delay pedals etc equates to talent.
For me, talent is in songwriting; in melody and lyrics and things that actually matter. It's not in saving four loops and having the grey matter necessary to activate a foot pedal at the necessary moment.
Also, the lyrics are horrible, turgid nonsense.
My litmus test for stuff like that is, if you strip away all the spectacle of watching what he is doing, how does it actually sound?
And for me, Yoav is most definitely not my bag.
There was a duo from New Zealand (I think) on Jools a few weeks ago and the guy did a similar thing (kinda) by saving a loop of a riff and ten playing drums - badly - at the end.
I though that was gimmicky pish as well but the audience seemed to alp it up. "Just get a feckin' drummer," I thought.
Jools Holland in general depresses me now. Bland, bland, bland...regardless of such gimmicks.

In my rage, I have made some errors...
