it being Goo.

i never thought i would be able to stomach a full SY album, but i've listened to it several times already and i thoroughly enjoy it.

i had only liked a handful of their songs before:

Thurston's half of Teen Age Riot
Hey Joni
Kool Thing
Tunic
100%
Bull in the Heather

so, yeah... has anyone else taken absolute ages to like Sonic Youth or any other band and when you did, you thought "why has it taken me so long?"?

there's probably a million other threads like this right now.

I bought Goo the other week,

having had Daydream Nation for a while. I LIKE them both, but I don't quite LOVE either of them. Perhaps the magic "click" (as in "and then it clicked!") will come soon...

I keep meaning to get Daydream nation

I like you Poptimus only liked a few songs and wasn't sure about be able to get through a fll album but goo is great. This thread has inspired me to go listen now.

Also the Go! team do a great cover of Bull In The Heather, well worth checking out.

daydream nation is pretty tedious

sister is the true classic of early sonic youth

/\

seconded

listen to 'the velvet plug'

thats their best one

^ one thing i found difficult about buying an album

was that everyone has different views on which is their best. so asking for advice from a few people you get a dozen different answers and dunno what the hell to buy.

in the end, i went with my gut and the cheapest

i jest anyway

its a horrible song

What happened with me and Sonic Youth was

I heard Teenage Riot and thought it was the best thing in the world.

I bought Daydream Nation, and thought it was good. But then I think I might have just been trying to convince myself I hadn't wasted my money.

I haven't listened to it for over a year now. :(

Listen to it again

it's their best in my opinion. Got the most beautiful lp box set of it for my birthday this weekend. I'm still a little too happy about this

Sonic Youth

Me no like

i was similar

in getting into sonic youth. i heard daydream and i liked it but it didn't click. i got sister and goo. sister was good but goo really got me. i think goo is their most accessible early stuff and it really increased my appreciation for the other albums. thingsthatfly is right though sister is the gem of the early period.

i've had Goo and Daydream Nation for ages

i like but dont love DN, i don't know if i've ever made it all the way through Goo.

Dirty on the other hand i go back to again and again.

What?!

I thought we had discussed them before, for some reason.
Actually it probaby took me a few times of my friend playing them to me when we were younger for SY to click. She generally got me into heavier stuff, also.

i think we only discussed them this weekend

because i was listening to Goo and it was showing up on that MSN thingy that shows people what you're listening to...

or maybe i'd asked you which SY album to get?

Goo is one of their most approachable albums

has some poppy moments in them, if you liked that check out Dirty as that IS their most approachable and in a smiliar category except grungier. If you perfer the sprawling side of it though check out Daydream nation.

Goo was the the 2nd album of SY to click with me (first being Dirty) once those 2 clicked the others just kinda followe pursuit rather easily to the point where I will say 'Washing Machine' is their best album, which is one of the more difficult ones to get into but it contains 'Diamond Sea' their masterpiece, so even if u dont get it straight away you have that to full back on.

Thank you! Someone who is in agreement

with me on "Washing Machine" being the best SY album out there!

now you can get a t shirt!

everyone will like you then.
