Envy were awesome

That is all.

they were.

I love them more than life itself.

The guy needs to sing

into the mic more often.

is this really the only thread so far?

i hurt less that after last week's.

broken social scene made me feel amazing. okkervil river ("this is a song about MURDER!" "wooooO!") were on fine form. animal collective... OH THE DRUMS! dinosaur jr were great. battles were incredible. so were the octopus project. ...trail of dead slayed my face and if they don't make another great record i will cry. the drumming game in the arcades has destroyed my thumbs. i now have a user account on the golf game in the sports bar. i don't suck at bowling as much as i thought i did, although i do still suck. chalet raves are fucking hilarious, as is the sight of jamie summers losing it after two ciders and some andrew wk and running around with a box on his head. not having both ATP channels blows. drinking baileys and watching baseball until 4am is definitely the way to end a festival. david whathisfacesilverjews is like a drugged up college professor. did i mention broken social scene? leaving ATP makes me sad.

STRAWBERRY VODKA

oh dear

and

red table wine of france

TIRED

Bands that were AWESOME = Saul Williams, BTTLS, EITS, Mono, BSS and others too

Things that were awesome = Sunny day on Sunday! Swimming! Flumes! Picnic on the beach! Meating nice people! Getting drunk and dancing like a moron to bttls and the field! Watching Back To The Future drunk! 1.21 Gigawatts!!! etc

Things that weren't so good = Being ill most of the time. Not meating as many people as I would have liked. Not finding/getting invited to any chalet parties. Leaving.

kthxbed.

hello

Good stuff:

seeing some amazing new bands: Octopus Project, Envy and Mono were stunning.

Seeing bands who i previously hated do a million times better: Saul Williams and Animal Collective.

National, Explosions and Broken Social Scene were brill. I went absolutely batshit crazy to Trail of Dead for Mistake and Regrets. Last 20 minutes of De La Soul was great. And the hilarious Ghostface Killah song with the ladies on the stage: 'Shake that ass till the pussy gets wet' was hilarious irony.

Warterslidea and footie on th ebeach for Sat/Sun top.

Bad Points: Tony teardrop was boring.

The 'getting chucked out the venue' for Battels on Sunday which was ridiculous.

The twats talking during the slow bits for explosions. Had the scream at them to shut the fuck up at one point.

And the arcades were shit.

But overall, great festival, and wiull return!

wu

tang!

TraIL Of Dead

were just floor-shakingly good. i fell in love with mono, battles were borderline magical and jens lekman and de la soul were the most fun of the weekend by far.
dinosaur, of course, were and are legends.
i loved the weekend despite being ill as bastards on saturday (very much my own fault) and never really working out
a/ where my chalet was
b/ what beers are allowed to go past which checkpoints!
didnt want to leave...

.

Awesome, awesome weekend apart from Iron & Wine. WTF? Jazz funk jam band shite. Very, very sad.

World's End Girlfriend = wow. Basically, everything Japanese was killer.

Oh, and an honourable mention for the Wu tea towells.

My highlights

extreme Dino Jr. moshing

Okkervil River awesomeness!!! (the bassist!!! I want him as my friend.)

Jens Lekman was lovely

getting just a bit emotional in BSS

getting lost on the beach at 1am when the tide went ALL THE WAY OUT

having a burger king and suddenly realising I was sat next to Animal Collective

It was all brill though..... I only got a bit bored during Mono.

OH AND THE FIELD!!!!

The Field

were (was?) amazing, didn't think I'd make it through the set due to extreme knackerdness but ended up dancing like a goon anyway. Jens Lekman was brilliant too.

Does anyone know when details about Nightmare Before Christmas are gonna appear? I know it's ages away, but I need something to look forward to, to stave off post-ATP depression!

should be announcing NBC

in the near future, start saving those pennies!

They were so good

Very glad I bothered to stay up and see them. They're playing Field Day, which I suppose is apt. I also hope Field Music and Fields are playing, just for shits and giggles.

i'm dying

but it was brilliant as ever, all sort of ended just as i started really getting into it though.

the idiot security guards during dinosaur jr's second set was the only negative for me.

best bands

for me were trail of dead, polvo (i think im alone here), the national, papier tigre, bttls, stars of the lid (lying on the floor).

let downs: atlas sound (love the album but wasnt happening live.), explosions, mono (poor sound for both.), dinosaur jnr (mr j mascis still manages to make the biggest guitar rig ever sound like a fart.)

:o

i thought atlas sound was incredible

Me too

I just closed my eyes and was really mesmerised. Nice to see some of Broadcast up there with him.

:S

do you mean one of broadcast? or were other people hiding around?
really dub-ey, loved it

Highlights

were the National, having only heard one album once (maybe twice) I was impressed. Broken Social Scene were amazing. Battles on saturday night despite having a t-shirt ruined by glowsticks. nuts quiz. saul williams. chalet rave. wince on the dance game. silver jews. seeing eits for the first time.

high points...

Sunset Rubdown were awesome, as were Ghost and Raekwon - super entertainment. Polvo (although short) weren't far from brilliant and World's End Girlfriend was the perfect start to the day.

Low points...Phosperescent - why put this kind of stuff on so late?? The verging on rascist dickhead guy shouting 'fried chicken' and 'aaah shit!' after everything Raekwon said...if you are reading this, you suck big time.

oh yeh Saul Williams was awesome too

as were Papier Tigre, who got all over the place

adem...

was my surprise highlight of the weekend (the emphasis on high) with his genius aphex twin twin cover, combining 'girl/boy song' and 'to cure a weakling child'. wasnt too fussed about seeing him until i read he was doing a covers set, really glad i did. can anybody else clarify that that was amazing and i wasnt just fucked?

he

was great, you wrren't drunk

just got back to sheffield

my first atp and it was awesome

best bands - jens lekman, i love him so much. broken social scene were amazing as were eits. de la soul were ace, the field last night were ace, the national were really good, silver jews, stars of the lid and battles also. basically most of the stuff i saw was good

other high points: brendan canning raving his face off at the front for the field, sneaking in huge amounts of gin, the weather on sunday, dancing in crazy horse on friday night

yaytp.

Iit was our first atp

I think we'll definitely be going back.

Great things (other than a real bed!showers!clean loos!) = eits, Broken Social Scene, Trail of Dead and the sun coming out on sunday. Oh, and the bizarre confused coach driver to minehead that kept telling us about the mystery tours he usually does for OAPs.

Bad things = sitting through the incredible horrible dullness of Lichens only to get kicked out and not get to see Battles at all over the weekend :/ would have been nice to have at least had a warning.

i was

also on that coach...wasnt it a bit weird when he started talking about his sons in the army?
also, cant believe i forgot to mention POLVO!

I was on that coach too

it was either the worst or the best thing that happened that weekend :D

yeah

he was a weird driver. He though i stole his paper!

ah right

you were just in front of me in the registration queue...he really didnt seem like he believed that you hadnt stolen it. strange fella.

that was you!

we were in the queue just in front of you, that was ace!

What was

this kicking out stuff? People got kicked out? How so? Which night?

jako_kenako got kicked out

because someone complained that his challet were smoking green, two of them got a caution! IT'S A FLAMING FESTIVAL! -=sihg=-

just

out of the room, before battles came on 'cos it was ticket only on sunday.

Super great weekend

Beach House - my band of the weekend. Just incredible. I completely geeked out in front of Victoria later when i bought a t-shirt and Devotion on vinyl... free cupcake!

Jens Lekman - as ever. Seeing him again on Wednesday, third time in two weeks.

Dinosaur Jr. - Yes.

Phosphorescent - especially the last song.

Ghostface Killah - Solo set I thought a little better. Especially inviting all the girls on stage and launching straight into 'Greedy Bitches'. Amazing.
Silver Jews - so funny.

Animal Collective vibrating me to death.
Broken Social Scene - enough to bring a tear to your eye at the end.

Going batshit crazy to Battles and Envy (whoever told me to see them, thank you) and subsequently having to sit down for The Field.

Sunset Rubdown battling through despite problems. 'The Mending Of The Gown' slayed almightily.

Tony Teardrop - their first ever live show! Considering that, they were pretty great. Those songs are little nuggets of brilliance to come.

Watching Ghostface's entourage pushing t-shirts on speccy white boys.

Seeing Saul Williams EVERYWHERE.

Being a mastar at pirate ship crazy golf.

And my ultimate highlight- winning a crappy plastic care bear keyring from the 2p machines in the arcade.

wow

didnt realise it was tony teardrops first show. quite enjoyable.

Beach House

when did you get their merch?
I went after their set on sunday and there was no sign... was very disappointed.

It was about 8pm, after Animal Collective

They were doing everything themselves so I guess they couldn't get there straight after their set.

totally,

Ghost's entourage were pressin' people full on! Love how they were selling 4 CDR knock off for a tenner... C.R.E.A.M baby!!

Will Be Returning for sure:

Good: TOD, World's End Girlfriend, Battles, Animal Collective, Saul Williams, Explosions, De LA Soul, The National...chatting with TOD and Saul Williams staying 4 chalets up from us.

Bad: Polvo (as it felt tiresome and long winded, the opposite to what I had been expecting), being too tired, and missing the DIS meetup because I went for a cigarette, and they disappeared.

yeeeeeeea

Highlights: The National, Trail of Dead, Octopus Project, Ghostface all amazing in thier own little way.

Lowlights Getting thrown out and having a Police cortion at 6PM Sunday for being overly obvious whilst getting a little bit high. That sucked a whole lot actually.....

were you in row O holnicote?

ghostface was the laziest, most disrespectfully uninterested performance I've ever seen. following saul williams (every inch the rock god) was unfortunate but seriously he could have made some effort. does no one else agree?

his banter was funny though, did he really think he was in Camden?!!

and further

to all of this i finally got to meet j mascis who was a lovely guy.
great bits of the weekend just keep coming back to me in fragments for some reason!

greedy bitches

greedy bitches!

Row R Holincote.....

I belive....

he was a bit sketchy and forgetful but

still you gotta remember he got the crowd moving like no other act at that show and it was so much fun for it. When he got that Neutronics guy up on stage, that was awesome, and I felt he bantered with the audience better than say, J Mascis. Anyone else get the feeling J and Lou Barlow hate each other?

I was in row O holnicote

and we got busted on sunday about 2 ish

That's harsh!

They busted you for smoking in your appartment? If so, I was lucky.

ridiculous

they have trance festivals there for christ's sake and people got kicked out for smoking weed.

yey

what a weekend! hightlights for me being battles, bss with dinasaur jr and explosions and various other people on stage (dispite them coming on late and only playing for just over an hour) , worlds end girlfriend was ACE, hawk n a hacksaw, trail of dead was pounding! not as chaotic as in the past but good none the less, mono rocked! erm theres lots more but i need to sleep first before it will all come back

highlights

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE were perfection, just amazing... oh my god. So happy, it was worth the money simply for Anthems of a 17 year old girl.
Battles, of course
hawk and the hacksaw
lichens... interesting
being followed by dinosaur jr

lowlights

missing tony teardrop
getting so 'messy' that I have no memory from hawk and the hacksaw to battles on saturday
rude people
battles on Sunday-
CAN YOU PLEASE LEAVE, THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT
I have a ticket
WELL YOU NEED TO GO OUTSIDE
why?!
'COS I SAID.
finnegans chip bar >:(

My turn

Highs - Paper Chase (!!!!), Octopus Project, Four Tet, Lichens, SOTL, Hawk and a Hacksaw, Jens and Beach House (so right for the Sunday opener, De La Soul (who I saw a hefty chunk of thanks to them finishing half an hour late). Finally getting to see Battles and Animal Collective who were both incredible.

Lows - BSS (brought to you by the letter U and the number 2), Rae & Ghost (Cuban Linx was one of the definitive albums of my teens but they just reminded me why I don't like live hip-hop). Polvo (great band but you could tell they hadn't played for 10 years - is that Thermal Treasure? yes it is, no it isn't, oh yes hang on it definitely is...it's shit though).

I thought BSS and Polvo were a bit poor

BSS could be me being a grumpy bastard but It was the worst performance I've seen from them - maybe they were particually good on the other occasions. Mascis' wankery over backed out... was a little bit annoying - I'm all for solo-ing but not when, you pretty much, can't hear anything else.

Saying Polvo were a bit poor might be being a bit harsh - average might be more accurate.

.

Fantastic wkend. first atp, definately won't be my last

highlights

the national, immense!
Worlds end girlfriend, amazing drummer
go karts
Saul Williams, not at all what I was expecting
Battles, sunday
the raft flume
animal collective
trail of dead

Lowlights

having some wanker behind me whistling all the way through battles on saturday
Polvo, no where near as good as I was expecting
Pale Gallery, just not very good

woo

good: successfully navigating getting to the fa cup final and back on saturday, 45 hours with no sleep, we lost but it was worth it. still got to see stars of the lid.

good bands: jens lekman. silver jews. animal collective. envy. stars of the lid. octopus project. the drift. mono. four tet. battles. de la soul.

bad band: the paper chase.

mistakes: pre-mixing a bottle of whiskey and coke and having to drink it all before getting in to centre stage. you only do that once.

regrets: having to miss trail of dead, the national, hawk/hacksaw etc due to cup final attendance. not making more effort to get into BSS' set.

i want a third ATP next weekend. primavera will do, though.

you went to the football

and missed the national and trail of dead?

and you thought the paper chase were bad?

you are mental.

first cup final reached in 81 years

vs bands i've seen/who are playing other festivals this year = no contest really. was a wrench but glad i did it.

i'm no expert on the paper chase but thought they sucked, yeah. trent reznor levels of camped-up angsty bollocks.

After an 8 hour trek back to Sunderland

I am home and still on a high. Not from crack, but from the joys of my first ATP.

Highlights? Probably that I got to have a shower and sleep in a bed.

Lowlights? Spilling a bit of my cheap Cornetto replacement on me.

why did everyone have to leave when

Battles were on?

everyone

who queued and failed to get in on saturday for battles was given a blue wristband that guaranteed them first entry to the set on sunday. to enforce this they emptied the venue before the set on sunday and allowed only wristband wearers in until two minutes before the band started.
all very well in theory but friends of mine had been at centre stage all night just waiting for battles then got turfed out and sent to the back of the queue!
was well worth queueing for an hour though!

Seriously

It has been a long time since I have been as angry as I was in that queue. Similarly to your friends, I was in the centre stage all night so that I would absolutely definitely get a good spot for battles (who I missed the night before because the Butlins guys said there was no chance we would get in when we were in the queue). Then we had the lovely walk out of the venue to the back of the queue behind all the people who had just arrived. SOooooooo angry. However, they were of course ace.

i really feel

for the people that got kicked out and maybe missed battles BECAUSE of their dedication to them!
i was a bit narked in that queue too. i accidentally sort of made a lady cry a bit because i told her that pushing in in front of us 'wasn't cool'.
i wasn't harsh - just pointed out that we'd all been waiting and its not the right thing to do to push in...and yet she cried..weird.

Who has a setlist for Dinosaur Jr on Friday?

Can anyone remember ALL the songs played on Friday by Dinosaur Jr?

hell no!

i remember a bunch but by that time i was, um, quite carried away by the occasion...

Dinosaur Jr setlist on Friday

according to the official setlist was

in a jar
repulsion
been there
back to your heart
little fury things
out there
this is all
feel the pain
pick me up
forget the swan
kracked
sludge

freak scene , just like heaven and chunks were also on the list as an encore but they didn't play them unfortunately

Thanks!

"Back to your heart" was the highlight for me!

First ATP

Will definitely be coming back.

Highs: Jens Lekman (about as much fun and hotness as i could take on a sunday afternoon. The Cellist! Best set of the weekend. and he really needs to release the extended version of Postcards from Nina as an EP or something.)

Broken Social Scene - Absolutely stunning barring one to many Spirit If songs, and J. Mascis masturbating on stage for 5 minutes. Anthems, KC Accidental, Superconnected were all absolutely fucking stunning. Amy Milan ftw.

The National - Mr. November! ripped my throat to shreads with this.

Beach House - Victoria Legrande does strange, strange things to me.

Okkervil River - so good, second best performance of the weekend. The bassist was gold.

Battles - So glad i persevered and stayed in the ridiculous queue on Sunday, only at ATP could i ever imagine a crowed that beig going universally nuts to a song like Atlas. And John Stanier is NOT human.

Lows -

Hawk and a Hacksaw, just not for me, i can't see the appeal at all.

Animal Collective - Wanted Feels era material.

EitS - Too long, just was a bit meh in places. The climax to their last song (can't remember what it was) shook me to the very core though.

All in all, really amazing weekend, so many odd things happening, water slides, unknown girls turning up and sleeping in our chalet, spending far too much on merch, ants, eating loads but no meals.

Roll on NBC.

Jens' postcard

He did! He recorded an e
