1. leeds met halloween 2002 live bootleg. Its official, and its real good. from a gig i went to and their penultimate UK gig. 27 songs, great sound, especially on reclamation which sounds so big.
2. the argument - mega grown up, quite far reaching musically and still angry, but focused and calm
3. red medicine - very odd at times and has some awesome tracks on it. stuff like the drop on by you is some of my fave music of all time.
im never one to rate repeater as their best as i think it sells them short musically even if it is still a fantastic record. something like end hits is prob the best eg of fugazi since it encompasses so many of their different approaches.
1. In O The Kill Taker

A friend played me 'Do You Like Me' and i was hooked!, back in 95 i think!
I watched a program many moons ago about a guy who used to set off home made bombs in cinemas, in New York i think, along time ago. And he sent letters to the police taunting them On the program they read parts of the letters and i'm positive that they read what is on the cover of 'In On The Kill Taker'. can any one clarify any of this!
The title of the album comes from a long, rambling letter Picciotto found in the street. It can be seen in the artwork on the cover, which is manipulated to say In on the Kill Taker. Picciotto - "As for the ...Kill Taker title, it may well have come from that book for all we know - the title was cribbed from the weird handwritten text we used on the back cover. it was found in the street and we have no idea who wrote it or what they were inspired by."
I started listening to them in the late 80's. Thurston Moore was dropping alot of band names in interviews at this time and kept recommending the first ep so I got it on his recomendation. On this occasion it paid of.
I think it was either through good ol' John Peel playing 'Furniture' first on his show once or watching Instrument late at night at the Leeds Festival 2001. Whichever was first. The first thing I bought was the Furniture single anyway.

Early 1989. I'd be just turning 17. I had heard about sXe and Minor Threat/Black Flag, MDC etc but not actually heard the records. There used to be a really excellent Sunday night music show called Turn It Up on BBC Radio Sussex presented by this guy called Mike Bradshaw. Me and my mates would listen to it, tape it and play it back in 6th Form art class. They interviewed Ian M and played tunes from the 1st EP. Suggestion and Waiting Room just totally blew our minds. We all rushed out and bought the vinyl on our monthly record hunting trips to Brighton. Changed our lives. That show was so on the money. Literally evey week for a year or two it would introduce you to a new band. Loop, MBV, Spacemen 3, Dinosaur, Buttholes, Sonic Youth, Swans, Mudhoney... etc. I heard ALL these bands on this show. Much repsect to Mike Bradshaw where ever you are. Show went out at 7pm just after the charts!!! Incredible!
Hello - I was rather pathetically googling my own name (the shame) ... and I found your post. Cheers! I am Mike Bradshaw and I'm glad you enjoyed Turn It Up so much. I did the show - along with a ton of other people - for 9 years or so and they were great days.
all the best, Mike Bradshaw
PS I still do some radio - the daily show at www.totallyradio.com
Read about them in Select magazine sometime in the late 90's I think. Bought 13 Songs, it went from there really. Despite really loving Fugazi I almost never listen to them.
My big brother brought it home one day. It was probably after reading about it in the NME, that was how we got into bands in the 90's, as people our age then do now. It was a dark, angular and dischordant masterpiece, i'll never forget the first time i heard Ian McKaye singing Facet Squared. WOOW
That's my favourite album of theirs (isn't the first one you hear always the favourite?). Then Red Medicine, then Repeater. My favourite band of all time.

3) Killtaker
I was into HC at school, and absolutely worshipped Minor Threat. One day, someone turned upwith this tape and said "Mate, you gotta listen to this"
I didn't like at first, because it was so different from the MT stuff, but it grew on me.
I still have some old stuff like Flex Your Head, the Song #1 single on Sub Pop, and various amenities.
