Burial - Untrue

A perfect mix of late-night dark listening matter and low down bass to piss off the cunts who live upstairs. May even replace Massive Attack's Mezzanine as my favourite chill-out and strike back album.

Bliss.

Anyone recommend anything similar?

just been listening to kulture

on their myspace, really good.

Underwater Dancehall by Pinch

is ok, its in a similar vein to Untrue, its not as good though

I think I've heard this

and remember enjoying it...I don't own it though! Might have been late night at a festival or something

Will re-investigate

yawn

.

A band called The Field?

I think that's their name. Really chilled out electro, really nice stuff, my friend plays them a lot.

the field...

is nothing like burial, but yes, from here we go sublime is brilliant...

also, bit obvious but, portisheads new album maaaybe..?

I really like Third

and Portishead were a real treat live. The best thing about the album is that it really broke my expectations, boh in quality and diversity from the first two. A real triumph.

Already have

From Here We Go Sublime. I like it, but I'm not overly crazy about it. Not enough happens, I know thats the point though.

what do you think of kulture?

http://www.myspace.com/kulture_uk
didn't like 'diesel', but all the rest is good.

It's a bit vocal for me

and to be honest, the real low-quality mp3s from myspace don't do tunes like these justice...

lost emotion

doesn't have any vocals and is the most burial-like.
i like listening to low-quality formats, if it sounds good there, then it is good.

I suppose there is a case for that

but yeah, not for me. I guess it's why dubstep in particular sounds great on vinyl: a real depth to the bass, and for me thats the biggest part of style!

On second listen 'Tonight' on that myspace is probably my fave.

damn

don't think i've ever heard dubstep via vinyl. will have to correct that at sonar, mary anne hobbs should be good.

yeah,

that shit is just dubstep hipster propaganda as far as i've read.

I'm yet to find anything as ace as Burial Untrue

but in the mean time why not get his first album if you havent already....

Murcof - cosmos .... is kinda like an orcestral minimal techno ambient kinda thing which is soooo good.

Flying Lotus - is another bit of dubstep kinda stuff that is getting me excited right now. Hes not quite chill out mind but definatly for the late nights.

I think it's sort of like Kid A

Especially Everything In It's Right Place. It has the same sort of confused vibe to it.

Also Matmos

Good electronica band http://www.myspace.com/matmos1

Sigridur Nielsdottir (I think) - she's a little old icelandic lady who releases a album every month or so?
All her songs are endearing.

Múm -

I remember Jimmy Edgar doing this type of thing

he's a bit less chilled out and a little more glitchy but still very good

Although

I am yet to explore Burial, I believe Boxcutter is of a similar vein and I like him a lot. Anyone else?

lots of old school garage

like Groove Chronicles and Todd Edwards and stuff. Lots of modern day dubstep like Digital Mystikz and Darqwan, etc. Go to his myspace www.myspace.com/burialuk and explore his top friends.

Todd Edwards

is well good.

Threads like this make me lol

there isn't really anything that sounds like Burial. Obviously you've got garage producers like el b, Menta, Steve Gurley and what not who are a huge influence on Burial, but lack his emotional weight.

In terms of emotionally weighty dubstep albums you should check:

Pinch - underwater dancehall
Kode 9 & the Spaceape - Memories of the Future
Scube - A Mutual Antipathy
2562 - Aerial
the Skull Disco 'Soundboy Punishments' comp
Dubstep Allstars Vol. 6 mixed by Appleblim

Also out in July is Blackdown and Dusk's album which is going to be incredible. Listen to clips here:

http://www.myspace.com/keysoundrecordings

And as a special bonus here's Burial's remix of Blackdown's 'Crackle Blues'

oo nice

cheers for the remix.... I am well gnna check out Blackdown

and good examples. I agree their isnt much that sounds like Burial, which is why I said as muc h earlyer and went for other genres.
