I'm not sure why, maybe it was the whole meeting of pretty much every character from Series' 4+5 of the show, and Mark realising that none of them really like him.
Things have always been pretty painful for Mark, remember when he pretended to be a student in order to seduce that girl; only to come inches away from having sex with her before being told they should do it some other time, and that they have three years to take it slow.
but to change him to the point where he's almost a different person is pointless.
this isn't a great parallel but the same thing happened in the simpsons - homer became more and more 'extreme' and people watching the show stopped empathising with him.
i'm not saying this will happen in peep show but it wouldn't suprise me, they're running out of ideas. they had a jeremy wanking scene in season 1 or 2 - to repeat it in season 5 is a regression
But I really haven't enjoyed this series so far. In fact it was been a total let down.
Peep Show is probably my favourite ever TV programme, but the first three episodes of this series (barring perhaps the second) have been pish. Loads of the scenes seem like rehashed versions of previous scenes. Like Jez wanking over the Queen was just exactly the same as when he tried to wank over Mark's fantasy magazine thing. The jokes seem really obvious, and is it just me or is there a total lack of the introspective thoughts?
Last night's episode was just not Peep Show. You have always cringed along with it, but in a harmless sort of way. Last night I was genuinely cringing and a little bit sad for the patheticness of Mark. That's not what it's supposed to be like!
And that Saz character was just fucking annoying. I've never been annoyed by a Peep Show character before.
I'm not entirely sure why I have typed so much, but I feel like I have been beaten by a formerly caring lover. And I'm also avoiding studying.
"I'd say the current series of Peep Show. Are Mark and Jeremy both borderline retarded now? Their characters have become totally one-dimensional. Did I miss the part where they both received serious head injuries?" The characters have regressed. Lame.
I may be delving too far into a character analysis of a sitcom character. But, since when did Jez steal stuff?! He is supposed to be a harmless, loveable rogue type. Since when has he committed credit card fraud? In previous series' he would have thought about it but not have done it. His lines just seem so fucking obvious.
Same with Mark. How many times can he say "THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE FINAL STRAW" etc etc.
DAM
you getting to it first
"I might just robin hood this baby"
A SAUSAGE HAS GONE!
IS THIS WHAT IT'S COME TO?
hmnmn
delicious cumberland final straw... dripping in onion gravy!
teabags wthin a limit...
no making a pie out of tea or anything wierd
time to open my sticky bank account
the QUEEN!
....
WOULD IT BE WRONG?
dobby > saz
^ This.
I hope Dobby comes back in another episode. She was cool.
^ this
i miss her already :(
She's back!
Woo, she's back!
yeah!
I really hate saz, but Dobby was amaaaazing.
buying food just because you know your housemate doesn't like it -
I've done this.
:(
me too
dark
And I could put a picture of us on Facebook?
What's wrong with Ryvita!?
I was eating Ryvita when I was watching that :[
dobby is the most awesome
NO!
mark! WHY!?!?!?
yes
i less than three her
i less than two plus one her
Poor Dobby. :(
BIG SOOOOZE
rotisserie chicken :D
this is total cringefest 2008.
DOBBY(IE)
<3
She dances BRILLIANTLY.
:)
recently
why has peep show depressed me but made me laugh in equal measures.
:)(
that party made me die a little
i swear it's getting grimmer
still, dobbyeis dancing ^_^
i think i love her
i think i love her
I think we all love her
DiS Fantasy girl 2008.
definitely this
i would.
That was
probably the best in the series so far.
Elgar!
No way
It was shit. Jez shouting "Elgar!" was brilliant though.
I so wanted him to punch Jeff.
I loved that last scene
I'm not sure why, maybe it was the whole meeting of pretty much every character from Series' 4+5 of the show, and Mark realising that none of them really like him.
I dunno
Gerrard seemed friendly in an indifferent manner.
Yeah, but Mark doesn't really like him.
So it still counts.
I'm aiming to be a sitcom writer when I'm older, if I can write a plot half as funny/tight as Peep Show's, I'll be so fucking pleased with myself.
Mind you
Things have always been pretty painful for Mark, remember when he pretended to be a student in order to seduce that girl; only to come inches away from having sex with her before being told they should do it some other time, and that they have three years to take it slow.
Ouch.
that last scene was great
so painful but brilliant
Dobby ftw
brutal
he would have gone with dobby - no doubt
if doesn't want her
i'll keep her company
tonight I really tried to like this
last time i'm giving it a chance.
complete balls.
Really sad episode.
Yet again the twats come out on top.
Poor mark.
I still laughed though
"delicious cumberland final straw"
its the way of the world
mark is becoming a twat though
what happened to the time when he used to make the right decisions? he really should have danced with jermemy at the end of that episode.
Yeah, that's called character development
mmmkay?
yeah i understand character development
but to change him to the point where he's almost a different person is pointless.

ok episode
thought last weeks was better. sometimes i think they over do the cringe a little bit though.
dissers fawning over the socially awkward kooky girl, whodathunkit
1 good episode
1 lame episode
1 average episode
I think it's time to stop making them
Definitely.
Both the episodes I've seen from this series have been piss poor.
Pretty bad episode like...
Big Sooze gives me a chubby
Weak Show
well it aint that bad I guess I never find it funny the first time I see it I dunno why.
I've found that with this series
caught both of them as late night repeats and thought they were much funnier second time round.
love it when they
ratchet up the cringe, amazing show.
"maybe the data wasn't collated correctly, maybe she's my hanging chad"
"spermy atmosphere is cramping my style"
did anyone else think
that the party had more of an end of series vibe than an end of episode one?
I'm watching it now
I really want to make a tea pie
I think I'm going against the grain
But I really haven't enjoyed this series so far. In fact it was been a total let down.

I agree...
See my post in the worst sitcoms thread. They've totally fucked this up. In fact I think it's making some of the older stuff look weak as well.
Here you go
"I'd say the current series of Peep Show. Are Mark and Jeremy both borderline retarded now? Their characters have become totally one-dimensional. Did I miss the part where they both received serious head injuries?" The characters have regressed. Lame.

They just aren't the same.
i've been watching the new series on youtube.
It's been pretty funny, with a few darker moments.
Does anyone
know if the episode on e4 tonight is the new one that was on 4 last night?
...I missed it.
it is
And
wish I had watched it instead of doing what I did.
