Well, OK, not a conspiracy as such, but the quality of their albums varies so wildly, it'd be acceptable to wonder if some SUSPICIOUS EXTERNAL FORCES* are at work. It's not that they occasionally release an album that's a bit off-colour, more that they seem to alternate between releasing a Good Album and a Shocker.
Have a look at their Discography:
* Sonic Flower Groove - GOOD
* Primal Scream - CLUNKER
* Screamadelica - GOOD
* Give Out But Don't Give Up - CLUNKER
* Vanishing Point - GOOD
* XTRMNTR (2000) - GOOD
* Evil Heat (2002)- BOARDERLINE CLUNKER
* Riot City Blues - CLUNKER
* Beautiful Future - WILL BE GOOD?
Now, I'm all for this in some respects - I'd prefer a band to keep moving forward, sonically, than remaining stuck in a rut, and it's one of the reasons why I love Primal Scream.
But when they release an album of such woefulness as Riot City Blues et al, it's so mind-bogglingly frustrating.
Can anyone confirm that the forthcoming album will be a good 'un? I read that Peter, Bjorn and John produced it, and now I don't know what to think...

don't the
indie disco/radio 2/Q reader brigade consider Give Out... as almost their crowning glory? Am sure it's the one that's made them the most money, GASH as it is. It seems they have two sets of fans, one lot want harsh abrasive stooges style noise, the other is their grown up screamdelica fans who now buy chart shit.
Quite smart really...!
I don't think
even Q thinks Give out... is that good.
New album produced by Bjorn and he has described it as 'pop and Kraut sounding'. Apparently it's quite electronic as well.
Also features a duet with Lovefoxx.
I think the title suggests something pretty soulful.
They're my favorite band and I'm fucking excited. It's like waiting for the lottery balls with a new scream lp. Although there is more chance of a winner with the scream!
...
Lame lame lame lame lame - a piss poor excuse for a rock band...terrible twats...the bits of Echodek i heard were good though
I hadn't thought of that theory
But it's so crazy it just might work.

I liked
Evil Heat
not as good as XTRMNTR but still good
:(
Vanishing Point > XTRMNTR >> Evil Heat
but I do still like Evil Heat, in it's own little way...
Never heard the last one tbh - I heard the single (Country Girl?) and wanted to eat my own ears. So I passed on extending the experience.
I don't get how someone could like Echo Dek without liking at least some other Scream stuff - VP, for instance?? - but hey, it's lesser known and therefore cooler.
Can someone with decent taste listen to the newie and report back to me whether it's worth listening to plz? Cheers...
Well said,
Vanishing Point is a masterpiece. Totally under appreciated. If you like Echo Dek then yeh, you really should listen to Vanishing Point.
Live in Japan is also worth seeking out. If Ex-Easter thinks they're a 'piss poor excuse for a rock 'n roll band' then listen to Live in Japan my friend. Who do you rate as a 'rock n roll' band anyway?
Primal Scream + MC5 at Meltdown! Oh yes!
I have an ATP story about a
conspiracy. it's funny. it really is. well, to me it is.
Riot City Blues
made Give Out look good...
Evil Heat is a strange one, seems to be XTRMNTR-lite in places but still has some great moments.
Also, 'Vanishing Point' (in my eyes) is the definitive Scream album. XTRMNTR is great, but only on VP did they nail down the Primal Scream 'sound', if you get what i mean.
In terms of seeing them live, i reckon 2000 - 2003 was the best time.
^
Except that I'm probably the only person on here who actually likes Give Out... but I'm going to stand by it.
Riot City Blues really was shit though. The worse PS album by quite a long way.
Forgot to say
i quite like Give Out...
Big Jet Plane, Free and Call On Me kind of save that album.
I think the band said the production was too glossy or something along those lines.
I'm hoping they've got that Country Girl shit out their system on this new one.
Primal Scream are crap
Can I hear the story please?
all the clunkers are...
from when they are going through their garage-rock phase. they always revisit this every 5 years and it's always shit.
i think they always think "we've got it right this time" and they never do.
they are so embarrassingly shit live these days.
When
have they been 'embarrassingly shit' live then?
You couldn't be more rong about Evil Heat if you tried tbh.
^^ aye
thats a class album, as good as XTRMNTR in my book, some really great full-on tunes. Riot City Blues was fuckin awful and they knew it.
no talk of screamadelica
it's my favourite, what do you reckon?
good to see all the vanishing point love, it's their second best followed by xtrmtr.
