how aloof is too aloof? i may be in trouble

My work persona is probably best described as aloof - disinterested in most people and their petty troubles, happy to make little or no contribution to conversation, and when consulted I generally have to ask what I'm being consulted about, despite being officially part of the conversation. Now this is partly just me, and partly cos I don't like anyone in my office and don't care in the slightest who they are and what they did/watched last night. But does this make me rude? or just aloof. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to be quiet and reserved, but im running the risk of looking shy, which sucks. But I cant say 'Im not shy - I just hate you all' can i? But how can i respect someone who 'moshed' to Keane at V? Or someone who's organising an office-wide Eurovision party on the night of Dot-to Dot.

"...who 'moshed' to Keane at V"

The only way to remedy this sort of behaviour is set fire to them all.

you don't have to respect

people (though they are ridiculous reasons for not respecting someone) just be polite and do your job.

^this completely

just get on with it

i do get on with it

to the extent that i spend the majority of my day on here and the rest pretending to have done work!

hehe

yeh theyre not the most watertight of reasons, but theyre are one of many. for instance one girl slagged me off in my homemade sonic youth tshirt saying it was tatty and i should just wear REAL clothes, then she went back to her cheeky girl adorned computer, the slaaaaaaaaaag

I'm also like this at work.

I don't bother to get involved, especially when one certian work colleague makes racist comments. If I did we'd fall out and that wouldn't be good.

its just easy that way

no need to fraternise with the enemy!

eurovision

is pretty cool

Yeah,

easy on the Eurovision.

Just smile and nod

and occasionally spike their tea.

i actively tried to be like a ghost in my last office

but then when i left they all threw me a big party.

i guess what i was trying to say there was

'be as aloof as you wish'

yeh aloof is cool

ill just keep it just the right side of the friendly line while subtly undermining the customers

i've

opted for office ghost as I'm not here very long, but I keep nearly blurting out jokey comments to people, and have to remind myself that i have never spoken to anyone, and i would look insane if i started making jokes at this stage.

...

One has to carry oneself a certain way in order to communicate that one just doesn't care, even before they've asked.

I could teach you but I'd have to charge.

3/4
