Black Sabbath

Because of their super shit name and all the stuff about bats and death and blood, I'd sort of brushed them into the pan of gothy dogger.

But listening to two of their early songs, I'm really really impressed.

Is it likely that I'd like an album, or am I just being lucky with picking these songs?

Which songs?

Paranoid's their masterpiece so you should start there I think.

^This

War Pigs-Paranoid-Planet Caravan-Iron Man is the way every album should open.

Something about Caravans

and one more which I don't recall the title of.

I bought Sabbath Bloody Sabbath recently

and wasnt particularly impressed.

Into the Void

mannnn (off Masters Of Reality)

which ones.....

Vol 4 is like a top 5 record for me. totally immense.

paranoid is the best all rounder

master of reality after that then,
black sabbath (heavy blues-rock)
vol.4 (heavier more 'metal', also the song changes)
sabbath bloody sabbath (more diverse, some great songs a couple of duffers)

after those 5 it all goes rapidly downhill

Black Sabbath have written some amazing stuff

even the stuff with Dio is pretty great. im not a fan of his voice, but musically its cool. the Dio era had a big influence on later Black Flag

my favourite is probably Sabotage

or

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

hudat?

I like blues. Even if its 'heavy'.

Kyuss are as heavy as blues get

stoner/desert rock. The vocals can be a bit off putting at first (not howly death metal, more howling hard rock style), but with Josh Homme supplying the licks, who gives a fuck.

sky valley is better than blues for the red sun

in the colossal rock stakes

Sky Valley is 100% colossal

I love that band.

This is the summer of stoner rock.

just listening to bloody sabbath

...as i read this. the title track is pretty much the best song ever made. if i were to ever make a list of the top five riffs ever, all five would be from this song.

no

nearly everything on their first 5 albums is pretty brilliant, but the first two (self titled and paranoid) are the most bluesy.

Hmmm.

Obviously Black Sabbath and Paranoid. Symptom of the Universe was one of the first songs I learnt to play ...Have a soft spot for Heaven and Hell.
