i concur

.

no

Alopecia: 10/10

Elephant Eyelash: 9.5/10

i just

feel that elephant eyelash is more consistent, whereas Alopecia trails off towards the end....

I love love love

Elephant Eyelash but I think Alopecia just about pips it too the post.

Weeeeeeeeeell ...

EE = 11/10
A = 10/10
O = 8/10

hmm

I agree that maybe Alopecia is a little overly long, and that it does get a little weak towards the end, but for some reason I find myself listening to it more. And I must have listened to those two albums around the same amount. They're wonderful, and they're quite consistent in their respective style. I can't wait to seem them.

s

I agree

Alopecia feels more like an album than elephant eyelash

But elephant eyelash has better songs on it.

Lyrics wise they're just as amazing/terrible as each other.

the fact that the lyrics are almost too clever-clever?

for want of any better way to put it...

Yeah that gets me a little bit

and the fact that as he said in that interview, he writes the songs as basically a selection of clever lines he thinks up. Which is great, because they are pretty good and funny and all that, but they lack the sort of train of thought/sporadic nature of what made cLOUDDEAD so good.
And also, the "rockist" in me feels as if it lacks a concept that I can grasp onto and think "cool".

But yeah i love why so hey whatever s'all transient innit? Woohoo lets all have a good time.

yes.

well, maybe not 'so much better'. but marginally better, definitely.

better

but not by as much.

Elephant eyelash 9.5/10

alopecia: 9/10

I'm intrigued

I guess you guys are talking about songs(maybe it's stating the obvious, but I don't like to be presumptuous). Who sings them?

hold on,

if anything trails off towards the end, it's Elephant Eyelash, which hasn't got any really good songs past Sanddollars, where as the equivalent tracks on Alopecia, (Sky for Shoeing Horses, Twenty Eight, Simeon's Dilemma and Torpedos or Crohns) are some of the best songs on the album.

Have you, perchance, forgotten these slices of wonder?

Whispers into the Other, Act Five, and Light Leaves?

"Cold and hard as a marble tabletop with nothing on top ..."

Just a thought...

but if the order of the tracks on Alopecia was different, it might seem like a better album. I just think all the best tracks are bunched up at the start - vowels pt.2, these few presidents, the hollows.

That's not to say the other songs aren't really good... it's just that thos three are the real killers in terms of tunage I reckon....so they should've been spread out across the record more.

I thought

Alopecia was a bit weak towards the end, but after many listens realise I was WRONG, and it's really grown on me. I find some of elephant eyelash a little annoying, like that refrain on waterfalls, so alopecia wins.

but but but

the refrain on waterfalls is AMAZING

'noys

me right up, i'm afraid. sounds like an old hippy witch.

I really haven't got into

alopecia at all yet, so at present I'm inclined to agree.

I bought a friend

The Sanddollars EP for his birthday last week, he'd never heard of Why? before and his initial response was 'a bit They Might Be Giants' obv in reference to the vocals/lyrics. Is that a bad thing?! Answers on a postcard...

They might be giants

are NEVER a bad thing.

I agree

well, I wouldn't say SO much but still better. Each track has more of a separate identity, and it's not as unremittingly dark. When it does get dark though like in Light Leaves it's just beautiful.

i thought

sandollars ep was better than them both. Though alopecia is slightly underwhelming if I had to favouritise the album stuff

anyone heard the

The Hollows EPs, with a cover of Yoyo Bye Bye by Xiu Xiu and remixes by dntel, Boards Of Canada etc? tis good...
