Just been listening to it again. Honestly, with the stuff you've mentioned in this thread, I can't see any reason why you wouldn't love this record. Check it out.
did a tour last year which coincided with the release of Living With War so they focused on this material a lot.
He also records with Graham as Crosby & Nash and also records with his son in a group called Crosby, Pevar, Raymond (he should think about coming up with a few band names)
the two have an album called Another Stoney Evening I beleive from the late 90's that is supposed to be remarkably good, im talking ranking with the best of the output. Would be interested to heatr from anyone who has this
I think Graham Nash and Neil Young have quite a bit of input in this. Not to take anything away from David as he really delivers on this. However naive I think it the album that sums up the spiritualism of the San Fracisco movement of the time best. Can we declare it a masterpiece?
I prefer the songs he wrote with the Byrds. Triad, Dolphin's Smile, Draft Morning, What's Happening!?!?!? etc.
His harmony voice is what makes Eight Miles High so special. And his lovely little face and his cape. He used to look so great. Then he got a beard and suddenly turned into the lion from the Wizard of Oz.
to CSNY as well. But this album, as ElasticMan says up there^, just seems to encapsulate the whole 60s San Francisco counter-culture perfectly. Made even more poignant as it was released in 71 when the movement was dying/already dead.
Let's face it a high percentage of CS&N output is pure cheese. Especially when you remove Neil from the equation.
So the fact this album never goes near the cheese was a real surprise to me.
Count me in as a Byrds fan also, sublime stuff. How many bands did they influence?
I thought Crosby might have been a fan of stinking cheese, because I saw this youtube of him just when I was getting into The Byrds which put me off him for life almost:
love the byrds and (was he in buffalo springfield?)
love his song "almost cut my hair"
four way street is a great live album
"Crosby, Stills and Nash" S/T and "Deja Vu" are amazing.
haven't heard any of his solo stuff.
I think he was on the simpsons once
He was on a Jefferson Airplane spinoff record
called: "Blows Against The Empire" which was awesome and once again available.
also playing on Blows are:
Grace
paul Kantner
jack cassady
Jerry Garcia
and others
It's been downhill
all the way for him since Brookside finished!
maybe it's time for a new liver?
that always picks ME up
thewarn just starts em
It is WE who must finish them.
Hi! I'm back!

maybe, well, I'm not sure
what is old crosby up to these days?
well Crosby, Nash, Stills and Young

Motion carried
Yah I love it too.
I love almost everything he did.

But PS.
I got a CSNY album and its not the best. Its very 70s. Some moments of pure genius, some real cheddar.
GET ONE OF THE BYRDS ALBUMS WITH HIM ON.
I wish I knew more Byrds fans :(
Yeah, I prefer the byrds
to CSNY as well. But this album, as ElasticMan says up there^, just seems to encapsulate the whole 60s San Francisco counter-culture perfectly. Made even more poignant as it was released in 71 when the movement was dying/already dead.
Well thats what makes this album being so good surprising

Yeah I agree.

The Byrds are my favourite band at the mo though. But with Crosby in particular I'm inclined to just blindly accept everything he did as genius.
Everyone apparently hates Mind Gardens on Younger Than Yesterday, but I think its one of the best things I've ever heard.
