Like on that first garbage record...or someone else made me think of this kinda recently?... destroyer maybe, I dunno....

You know what I'm talking about, eh. Like a vocal mix that sings to ya one ear atta time.

Oh, Hi-Fidelity - yeah!

Flaming Lips

"Feeling Yourself Disintegrate"

off The Soft Bulletin. That's my example. Right there.

muse - citizen erased

sounds cool because of the changes between left and right in the quieter bit towards the end

i listened to some beatles stuff (magical mystery tour and revolver) with headphones recently and the vocals were all to one side... didn't really work too well. other beatles records may be like this, i haven't checked

beatles

i think that the beatles were one of the first bands to have a record mixed in stereo and as it was so new whoever mixed it didnt really know how to make it sound good.

hence the really rubbish stereo mixes!

or so i've heard.

Manchild by Eels

as well as My Beloved Monster.

Most/all of the parts in these songs are panned completely to one side.

loadsa old stuff is like this

off the top of my head the Forever Changes by Love is like that all the way thru. I have to listen to it on speakers cos it annoys me on ear phones.

not vocals but

the opening guitar lines on man and wife the later (damaged goods)by desaparecidos, they entwine come together and fall apart, it sounds great on headphones
