Well, not quite yet.

But supposedly on the ticker on Sky Sports News, the 'breaking news' is that he's currently in negotiations over a contract :D

Can anyone confirm this?

...

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Barcelona about the availability and asking price of Samuel Eto'o for next season and have been told that he can be theirs for 35million euros, according to a report.

Marca state that Barca have been receptive to Spurs' enquiry and will now wait and see what the English team's opening gambit is regarding price.

Juande Ramos was quoted as saying that if his club want to compete with the top four then they would have to sign the best players, like Luka Modric and Eto'o, and now appears to have followed up on that statement by making an enquiry.

Barcelona are set for a summer of sweeping changes and could be prepared to offload any number of stars in order to finance a rebuilding programme that will mean at least ten players going.

Eto'o has stated recently that he would leave next summer if the club endured a third season without a trophy, but the attraction of a move to the Premier League may help Tottenham's cause a year early.

With Frank Rijkaard looking likely to leave, the big names from Barca's Champions League triumph two seasons ago are also said to be on the way out with Ronaldinho and Deco, among others, to be offered to other clubs.

While Eto'o's name had not been highlighted before by the Catalan press as one to leave, a large bid from Tottenham could certainly have them working out how viable it would be to keep him.

The former Real Madrid forward is no stranger to interest from the North London outfit as he was expected to join them from Real Mallorca 12 months before moving to Camp Nou and he even dedicated a goal to the club's fans.

Spurs' interest in Eto'o could further cast a doubt over the long-term future of star forward Dimitar Berbatov - who continues to be linked with a big-money summer move.

:)

Quite exciting, almost as much as when we got Klinsmann.

It would be interesting to see him at Spurs..

..although why? (From his point of view)

A challenge?

The money?
He's probably got a fair knowledge of Ramos and may want to work with him?
He may want to live in London and Arsenal/Chelsea don't want him.

An attractive challenge

maybe. Spurs play attacking football and he won't be short of chances to stick the ball away. He'll know a bit about Ramos from playing in Spain and maybe the signing of Modric would be seen as a signal of intent for next season. Would be interesting if a top 4 club came in and matched Spurs' offer though.

I could imagine Arsenal putting an offer in for him

if Wenger decides he likes him. He'd fit in pretty good there...

As for the other clubs, it's only Liverpool who I could see wanting him and no player in their right mind would sign for them right now.

I think an arguably greater coup could be

Man City signing Dos Santos. Apparently his dad has said they're the front runners. I know Arsenal aren't exactly short on 'ones for the future', but if he's available for £7m then I'd happily take one more

I think

he'd turn out to be a steal at £7million. He's been a bit unlucky that Messi's turned out to be pretty shit hot.

I seriously hope City sign Dos Santos

he'd be quality for us.

as for Eto'o. he's got to be one of the most overrated players around

Utter, utter bollocks

Eto'o is one of the worlds best strikers

^mega this

he is wonderful. He's been unfit all season. Give him a good preseason and injury free year next year - he'll get at least 30 goals in England.

without doubt

^ I concur

Dos Santos isn't a coup

and we have confirmed we are bringing Vela back next season. Christ.

Dos Santos can do one. Seriously. He isn't as good as people make out.

I think Vela is going to be amazing

Maybe not next season, but definitely the following season.

He's 17, and he's in the Barcelona first team squad

Messi is a freak of nature, and Bojan looks to be going the same way. Dos Santos is undoubtedly gifted. Him and Vela have been described as the future of the Mexican team for good reason

And besides, wouldn't hurt Vela to have a mate at the club, would it? Hleb can do one as far as I'm concerned, and getting Dos Santos would go same way to filling that void

OMFG!!!

Man City signing Dos Santos, I though Barcelona wanted for the future.

My Barcelona supporting friend thinks he could be awesome.

No

they don't want him because:

a) bad attitude
b) lazy
c) Bojan is about 500,000 times better

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY

WOULD HE COME TO YOU?

^ This

If he's leaving Barca because he wants trophies and is ambitious, then Spurs is probably the wrong place to go. Unless he wants to win the Carling Cup?

See ht27's post above

plus, we may be giving him a shitload of money, who knows?

Oh I see now.

It's ok, I'm just a bitter Arsenal supporter :D

You shouldn't mention trophies

as an Arsenal fan :P

I know it's been a while :(

Just got to keep the faith I guess.
Are you really going to get a Eto'o face tattoo on your face if he signs? I would really like to see that!

:S

I'm beginning to regret that promise.

What's a degrading but less permanent equivalent to getting a tattoo on your face and changing your name?

interesting

since he's nowhere near as good as he used to be. A few years ago he would have signed for one of the Big Three (Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal), nowadays I doubt they would touch him so he has dropped down a level to the more aspirational teams who spend stupid money (Spurs, Liverpool). Another couple of years of getting worse and Newcastle reckon they'd have a chance of getting him.

Interesting because he's basically looking for his big Premier League payday a couple of years earlier than expected.

I like how you've reduced the Big Four to the Big Three

...and excluded Liverpool :)

I personally think the idea of The Big Four, within a Premier League context, is a myth

Only three clubs have ever won the Premier League. Liverpool haven't won the domestic league since 1989-90 and in the almost twenty years that have passed, they have only ever finished runners-up twice.

They are, after spending almost as much as Chelsea, a decent Cup team who do well by playing a a very tight, unattractive and tactical brand of football.

There are three clubs who are far and away the best domestic clubs in England - Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal. I think Liverpool are closer in standard to Everton, Villa, etc than they are to the Big Three. The Premier League in recent years has represented this. In fact, they are only comparable to the Big Three in terms of the money they've spent and their wage bill.

Er Blackburn won it aswell

Liverpool should definitely be classed as one of the big 4 anyone who says differently is wrong. I'd say out of the four Arsenal are most likely to slip out of it.

this would be ace

i getting tired of berbatov's sulking, think its time to cash in.

I concur

although if we have both and Keane, that would surely be the best attack in the Premiership.

(this would no way work, especially with Modric in the frame, but the thought of it nearly made me do a spunk)

etoo's kinda prone to sulking as well

although maybe he'd do so less at spurs than barcelona.

^This

If you don't want the sulking then Eto'o isn't your man.

NO

I WANT VILLA. WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH.

either

of them would make me a very happy boy. certainly happier than last summer with 16m on bent, 8m kaboul and 10m on bale (though he will be good when he mans up)

Bale's going to top class next season

if he can stay fit (which there's no reason he won't).

He was amazing during the first third of this season.

A sub topic

why is everyone complaining that he 'likes a bit of a moan'?!

FFS, MOST players in the professional game complain. Don't go on about 'being a negative influence', because most footballers constantly complain at training/during matches.

Nah, I wouldn't want Eto'o, he likes to whinge. I'll ignore the fact that he'll score 30 goals a season.

i think its just relative to the complaints people have

about berbatov despite all his goals. eto'o is pretty well known to be of a similar temprament. the thought of him and robbie keane forming a mean striking partenrship makes me smile though.

yeah, all centre forwards moan! if thats the reckoning:

henry = rubbish
battistuta - rubbish
cantona = rubbish
rooney = rubbish
drogba = ruibbish
shearer = rubbish
klinsmann = rubbish

my point precisely

I heard that Johann Cruyff liked a bit of a whinge from time to time as well. He was fucking crap.

pele used to go down too easy

useless.

That Roy Keane

always shouting his mouth off.

Useless.

Nah

People hated him because he was a violent thug, who took pleasure in wrecking other players careers, and showed complete lack of respect to referees during his time as a player

Maradonna

thought he was better than most. Waster.

Nah

People hated him because he is a drug taking cheat, which in my eyes means he can never be thought of as the worlds greatest footballer

The point is that

some moaning players are detrimental to the team as a whole.

I think most teams

happily put up with players who moan as long as they produce. Henry at Arsenal was a classic example. And yes, before people say about how we have come on this season, look at the records with him in the team.

Henry wasn't as bad

more like players who get paid more than anyone else, demand they start every match and refuse to play for the reserves etc

If Berbatov leaves, we'll have 2 strikers

So yes, at the moment we are.

really?

no one coming through the youth teams?

They were bigging him up at the kit launch

supposedly he scored something like 31 in 30 for the youth last season, not sure what his tally is like this time round.

19 in 20

still a good tally though

Pekhart

But to rely on one second forward (Keane), one striker who hasn't really settled yet and one who has never been tested at senior level would be a bit... erm... dumb.

welcome to my world

is this Pekhart fella someone stolen from another youth academy?

Obvs

Bent should leave.

Another great striker wasting the best years of his career sat on the bench. He should have gone to Newcastle.

the rumours suggest it'll be a straight-swap for Berbatov.

I know who i'd rather have in my side, and he doesn't wear Pooma's. Looks like this signing might be up there with whoever signs Henry or Ronaldinho as past-it costly buy of the summer.

Eto'o isn't that good

Spurs should keep Berbatov he is a far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far , far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far better player than Eto'o

except

Berbatov wants to leave more than anything in the entire world.

Eto'o, I think Spurs are in cloud nine if they think they can get him. 11th in the Premier League, not exactly Barcelona is it?!

I hope they get him

it will be funny.

Bet The Barcodes go in for him at double the wages everyone else offers, yet he still turns them down. Cue ridiculous speech from King Kev about Newcastle being the fifth biggest club in the Premier League.
