NME respond to Morrissey: 'we didn't pull Love Music Hate Racism support'

Ping pong - Morrissey released a statement last Friday revealing that he’d donated enough cash to the Love Music Hate Racism festival to “make up the majority of the £75,000 deficit LMHR was faced with after a major sponsor pulled out”.

The implication seemed to be that the major sponsor in question was the NME, these comments from the former Smiths man immediately following the quote above in the press release distributed through the media:

This is a historic event spreading an important, anti-racist, message so it must be allowed to go ahead.

Love Music Hate Racism got in touch and explained that the NME had pulled support, possibly as a result of their association with me, and asked if I could help as they had not been able to replace them.

This is something I am commited [sic] to and we appreciate everyone coming together so quickly to make it happen."

Well, it turns out that major sponsor wasn’t NME - in fact they got in touch to “categorically confirm that NME is not the ‘major sponsor’ which Love Music Hate Racism alludes to.

While supporting Love Music Hate Racism on a number of fronts in the last year,” the statement continues, “including giving away a themed covermounted CD album… NME had no planned commercial participation in this weekend’s Carnival.

IPC media contacted DrownedinSound with their concern that what they describe as a “very carefully worded” statement may have misled fans into believing they had mystifyingly dropped LMHR in the mire at the last minute.

To reiterate on their behalf – this wasn't the case. DrownedinSound has contacted Love Music Hate Racism for answers on who actually pulled the funding and we'll let you know as and when we get information back from them.

How childish

I'm glad nobody is using such an issue to point score...

Yeah

lets all have a fight to see who loves music and hates racism more!

ha ha

ha ha... but what about the racists that love music?

(NO I AM NOT ONE OF THEM!)

In fact I went over the weekend and wet and sunny and fun. Although I had to quickly drink the 6 cans of beer outside as I wasn't allowed to take it in. OOpps!

on a similar note;

"DrownedinSound has contacted Love Music Hate Racism for answers on who actually pulled the funding and we'll let you know as and when we get information back from them."

so it's not NME... what doth it matter?

It's a black day for news

*other colours of day are also available and equally respectable*

black day?

omgz ray-cyst.

why did they contact DrownedinSound

if they were trying to get a message to fans of the NME?

NME.com readers

won't have read about this fiasco

more importnantly

why the fuck weren't the NME heavily involved in such an important cause after giving it such a high profile before? Is racism not pulling enough music celebs in to make the cause worthwhile? Is it not fashionable anymore? It's mink coats on former PETA supporting supermodels.

It's more likely they were distracted from the oh so fucking worthy event of the first NME USA awards, fucking useless...

maybe it wasn't commercially viable

they aren't a charity you know..

and it's not the same as naomi campbell / peta

it's not like the nme is loving racism and hating music now

they won't have read about it

because it wasn't reported

go on mozza

love it when that weekly brain fart gets nailed!

so

are they demanding repairations?

Eat the fucking turkey

It's good for you

Moments later

he snapped the turkey's neck like a twig between his thumb and forefinger.
