Just rediscovered this album recently and it is actually amazing. The ringing guitars, the melodies that draw you in, the fact that there's not really a boring song on the album. The lyrics at well seem to be really evocative of a certain Britain without being too in your face laddish. Best Blur album yeh?
I prefer Parklife and Blur
but it's my third favourite. It kind of loses the plot in the second half I think.
complete
I think that its the most complete Blur album. Albarn at his most poptastic without being over the top. Great lyrics, great arrangements etc...
A fine example of an album that makes you worry about the record buying public, as it sold so badly.
Best blur album IMO
Parklife is more like MLIR part 2, but is still very good.
SUNDAY SUNDAY HERE AGAIN TIDY ATIRE
YOU READ THE COLOUR SUPLIMENT THE TV TIMES
:D
Yes! Its a corker!
Still very underated.
Production is dating a bit but
Oily Water with its MBV pretentions.
Intermission is brilliant
Resigned is one of their best songs
Starshaped excellent
etc
etc
The singles are the weakest songs but still very strong songs - happy memories of summertimes and also the best album cover ever. Wonderful precursor to Park Life and wish I could take popular indie as seriously now.
result - 10 out of 10
MICHAEL!
Cracking album
Everyone at the time went for Suede's debut album instead. Fools!
Yes and that's rubbish barring The Next Life
and even that runs out of ideas.
Count me in
on any Blur appreciation thread, thank you very much!
so brilliant
it was pretty much my favourite album for a large chunk of my life and still is in the top 10 probably.
Its pretty much perfect (i'm not big on "Pressure On Julian" but the live version of Oily Water sold that for me)...
Opening riff of Advert sounds so 1993 but its soo bloody good. Lyrically its Damon's finest record.
yes, best blur album
& advert will always be my favorite blur song.
No one's
mentioned Blue Jeans, i love that song.
So many great songs
I'm never sure which is my fav blur album, I'd probably give you a different answer everyday. However my username may suggest otherwise.

Best album of the 90s, far superior to Parklife. Not so much dated as "of its era." Absolutely love it still. Might go and listen to it now.
Definitely my favourite
I bought into that hook line and sinker at the time, poncing around putney in an old suit jacket and doc martens. tit.
I definitely prefer Parklife
but For Tomorrow, Blue Jeans, Oily Water and Resigned are perfect, and Advert, Colin Zeal and Miss America are up there with Blur's best. Underappreciated album, and yes, I agree it's a shame that the modern day equivalent bands are a bit depressing in comparison.
I haven't listened to this in years
Going to dig it out later...
FTW
'Parklife' was such a letdown after this.
for tomorrow is excellent
but the production so poor! i used to have a live version that i played all the time instead.
Food processors are great!
I FEEL FOUL MOUTHED AS I STAND AND WAIT FOR THE UNDERGROUND
I love it so much.. i love everything about it. I really reminds me of my first year at uni.
the production to advert is so good, really energetic. it perfectly fitted the band at that time.
such a good record!!!!
