...Why oh why oh why did you let that annoying a-hole guitarist sing so much on your last two albums? It really grates, and in serj you already have an awesome voclist, so why tamper with this forumula? it seems that on hypno/mezmerise he's always either singing equally as loud in the 'background' or has just plain taken over on lead vocal! This just isn't on.

It's just so...whiiiiineeeey!

I liked it

Pretty true

Such a shame they went on indefinite hiatus after making this terrible decision.

Actually, on reflection, it's not that terrible

From what I recall, some of the harmonies, particularly on Mesmerize, were rather good.

In fact, I completely retract the above post until I've revisted the albums tomorrow.

I agree

although some of it was alright. not a patch on Toxcitity

i dunno why...

but he's just one of those people you wanna slap isn't he! urgh..he just can't sing at all! Serj sounds amazing on all albums, it just seems like Malakin's muscling on just because he writes all the riffs!

and toxicity is fucking ace...they had a good balance there *ie strictly backing vocals for the non-vocalists

yeah there is a big whineyness

to those other two records, which is pretty annoying and it wasn't noticable in toxicity as you say he was just on backing vocals. Serj FTW!

That is true

Turn Down Malakin in the vocal mix FTW!

I enjoyed it on Mesmerize

though I hated pretty much everything about Hypnotise, not really sure why - just none of it grabbed me at all.

LOL?

All of the above is true

Have you heard Serj's solo album? It's like a good to great SOAD record, instead of the pap that Hypno/Mesmerise was.

^ This.

It is realy good - basically a SOAD record like it should be. It is realy quite good.

I actually liked it

but in context of making the albums sound different to their earlier ones. Mesmerise > Hypnotise. I have to admit to being one of the few people that love 'Steal this Album!' almost as much as Toxicity...

It isn't THAT bad!

I think Daron brings something different and it works in a "rock and roll" way. Yes, Serj is amazing and shouldn't be stifled (i.e. if Daron FORCED it upon the group) but on some of the songs, I think it works really nicely.

The debut album is still the best one though - Toxcity leaves me a bit cold at times.

Dear S.O.A.D.

Why is none of your stuff anywhere near as good as your debut? Apart from, perhaps, a couple of the b-sides you have.

Sugar aside

the debut is pants. Toxicity is where it got good methinks

Nah

The debut was great. Suite-Pee, Suggestions, Spiders, Sugar, and some other songs that probably didn't begin with "S" ... Toxicity was pretty good too, but I got bored after that.

"Revolution! The only solution! The armed response of an entire nation!"

Good times.

have they broken up now??

toxicity FTW!!!!!

I think their guitarist writes all the tunes

and plays all the instruments except drums on the album,so it would make sense that he'd want to sing all over it too.

I thought Daron's vocals were excellent

yeah I agree they were a bit whiney and too loud in the mix. Unfortunately it seemed to make SOAD have two lead vocalists rather than just serge but you can't say he can't sing when he can harmonise and sing as high as he can.
