Bright Eyes man Conor Oberst will release his first solo album for 13 years in August.
The self-titled longplayer won’t arrive through Oberst’s usual stable over at Saddle Creek, but rather Merge Records who count Arcade Fire, Lambchop, Spoon and, more importantly perhaps, Oberst’s compadre M. Ward among those acts on their roster.
Conor Oberst will be released on August 4th in the US – here’s what’s on it:
‘Cape Cañaveral’
‘Sausalito’
‘Get-Well-Cards’
‘Lenders in the Temple’
‘Danny Callahan’
‘I Don't Want to Die (in the Hospital)’
‘Eagle on a Pole’
‘Moab’
‘NYC - Gone, Gone’
‘Valle Místico (Ruben's Song)’
‘Souled Out!!!’
‘Milk Thistle’
The record was made in Mexico with Oberst’s latest backing troupe the Mystic Valley Band and producer Andy LeMaster. Oberst and his band will be at Reading and Leeds this year, as well as at Electric Picnic in Dublin.

he should have a song on it called 'conor oberst'
malkovich?
malkovich.
malkovich
are quite good.
Good
& lovely.
The live stuff i heard
was actually pretty good. i didnt like Cassadaga, lyrically and musically it was poor (except four winds).
Dont understand why he feels the need to make a new band though. Maybe he really is as egotistical as the rumours say.
Maybe?
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha a a.
Sorry:)
Cassadaga
was far from poor and is certainly one of, if not, the strongest Bright Eyes LP to date.
And surely, starting a new solo project hardly makes you an egomaniac? Lots of songwriters take that path when they feel the music they're writing is on a different plane or has a different feel or message about it. Quite understandable.
Although, yeah, the live stuff I've heard has been good.
^
Cassadaga
certainly wasn't poor, but it wasn't as good as the five Bright Eyes albums which preceded it (which were all amazing).
This seems slightly strange. Is this the end of Bright Eyes? Has he really fallen out with Mike Mogis? It also seems a bit odd that it's released on Merge and not Saddle Creek.
Cassadaga bored the shit outta me.
sorry.
he will never top puddle stomper
.
i bet its just an attempt to be able to play some smaller audiences and play some possibly crapper songs that maybe would not make sense to play as bright eyes, as he needs to maintain and build his middle aged neil-young-aiming-for-grammys type audience under the bright eyes name
I would
happily felaiche conor oberst
Sounds like a hoot!
"That was moving rabbit classic Bright Eyes..."
Cassadega was a bit 'meh'. I tried to love it but could only really take to Brakeman, Four Winds, Make A Plan To Love Me and Hot Knives. The rest just kinda passed me by. Shame cos I fucking love more or less every other record he's done.
August!
That's aaaaages away.
This should be really good - Cape Canaveral and Money Lenders sound amazing from the bootlegs I've heard. It will probably be quite Cassadaga-ish, but that isn't the worst thing in the world...
Where
can I find these bootlegs that are oft referred to? I have searched but have not found...
