Do you play guitar?
Can you sing a bit?
Can play basic keyboard?
Do you perhaps play something else like the trumpet?
Are you charismatic and a good performer without being a show off / a complete git?
Are you pretty much at a loose end, or can be as of now or the end of June latest?
If all of these apply to you and you'd like to join my band then I'd be delighted. Get in touch here, through our myspace page www.myspace.com/4or5magicians or email fourorfivemagicians[at]hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk
Some info on the band :
- We're alt-rock I guess, mainly influenced by early 90's American bands - Guided By Voices, Dinosaur Jr, REM, Nirvana, Pavement, Sebadoh, The Pixies, Built To Spill etc.
- We've released two singles to date, one last October on Alcopop! (sister label of Big Scary Monsters), and one which is out today in fact through This Is Fake DIY. Both have received airplay on the Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq shows on Radio 1.
- We'd be looking for the new member to be able to commit full time (or at very least have a very flexible job) to the band, and we are looking at playing as much as possible from the end of June - more or less be on a constant tour I suppose. We are expecting to release another single in the summer, then think about choosing a label to record an album for in the Autumn.
- The band is based in Brighton right now, and will probably continue to be as of the beginning of August, though we may be relocating to London.
Anyway, get in touch if you think you might be the right person for the job!

drop b?
sorry. this is so unhelpful!
ps. i do actually play the trumpet
gay joke here!
I've seen you twice
One time there was 6 of you and the other time there were 4. What happens?
i'll explain
We have a core lineup of four that is the minimum we need to play shows, where the lineup is one vocal, two guitars, one bass, one drums.
Since January my old mate from school has been playing guitar with us, while I was experimenting with just singing without playing guitar. He has since stopped playing with us due to getting a full time job.
Also in January, we got a new drummer, and our old drummer moved to keyboards, but he doesn't play live with us much as he now has his own band.
So in the past few months you may have seen us with six members (supporting Los Campesinos in February, and a couple of Brighton gigs), but on our tour we did this month, we only had four people out, when we really need five for the full show.
Also another more pressing reason for advertising for a new member is because our current guitarist is unsure whether he can fully commit to the band due to work / education commitments, so he will probably not be able to play all future shows.
So ... the new member would sometimes be playing guitar as part of a four piece, and other times playing keyboard (and a bit of guitar / possibly trumpet) as part of a five piece.
Confusion central. That's about as clear as I can make it!
Blimey
Got it though. And yeah, the first one was New Slang with Los Campesinos. The other was The Grey Horse in Kingston, which was an odd one really.
the sound was terrible at that gig
we could only hear one big mush on stage, and our drummer could literally only hear himself play as he had no monitor. So all things considered that was probably the worst we played all tour. No idea what it sounded like out front - I imagine really loud and pretty out of tune!
it wasn't that bad to me
Could tell something was missing but just put that down to there being less of you than what I expected!
Read the thing on Myspace you put about it and it was strange because if people were interested in you, you really wouldn't have noticed, that sort of place, if that makes sense. I enjoyed it but I went on my own so I don't really know what other people thought. Really mixed lineup too, Look I'm A Ghost were dreadful, just seemed immature actually.
You'll still be on guitar though?
i'll mainly be playing guitar yeah
though when we have five people out, then maybe i'll have a couple of songs where I just sing, as not all songs have keyboards on them.
As long as you do what you did in Northampton
where you went to the bar, then just about managed to get back to the mic in time it'll be fine.
this would be fun
joining an awesome rock band for touring fun. but i can't play trumpet, nor keyboards (well, not really) and my guitaring is a bit:
