They're playing Tufnell Park Dome on May 9th. I love Tufnell Park Dome. It's like a church hall.
This is going to be excellent. You should go just for that weird harmony thing the two girls do.

It's an upsettherhythm show. (I'm hoping that if I keep mentioning them on here, they'll start paying me.)

DIRTY PROJECTORS
Dirty Projectors is a group led by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist David Longstreth. Based in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, with connections to the Portland, Oregon scene, the group produces a distinctive sound of electronic experimentation, melded with traditional instruments and complexly harmonised vocals. Their recordings range from Prince-style one-man studio productions, to arranged orchestrations, to basic voice over nylon-string guitar, to an amalgamation of all these tactics. Following a string of releases for Marriage Records and Western Vinyl including 'The Getty Address' - a conceptual opera written from the point of view of Don Henley as a Spanish Conquistador - their latest LP entitled 'Rise Above' is out now on Rough Trade / Dead Oceans. It's an attempt to re-imagine the lyrics of Black Flag's 'Damaged' album from memory over a complicated music that takes influence from contemporary African blues and funk.

CHEVEU
Formed four years ago around a cheap Casio synth with prerecorded rhythms, Cheveu - French for "hair" - can be affiliated with the emerging weirdo-punk / shitgaze scene alongside Blank Dogs, Times New Viking, Pink Reason, Tyvek and Psychedelic Horseshit. Their RnR, electro psychedelic punk sound is mixed up with a tortured deep voice and a blown-speaker chaos, leading admirers of no-fidelity to their door. Byron Coley proclaimed in the Wire magazine "France's Cheveu have an excellent grasp on a very French post-punk dynamism, devolved in a lopsided way from progenitors such as Metal Urbain, Warum Joe and Berurier Noir. But whatever their model, these guys produce a superior guitar raunch with great mystery moves... The primitivism here is lush enough to make you fall over." We agree!

THE REBEL
The Rebel is the husband and wife side project of Country Teasers head honcho Benedict Roger Wallers and the marvellous Sophie Politowicz on drums. As politically flippant as the Fall, as anti-hi-fi as Beat Happening, The Rebel twists electronic fuzz, thriftstore casio, trashy guitars and pots'n'pans percussion into a bizarre mix of outsider art and DIY punk lunacy. Now joined by Alastair Mackinven, Country Teasers' guitarist since 1996, on bass the group concentrate on a new free glam sound, not being tied down to the same rules which govern that other group, such as machismo, Country, a hat, simplicity and attack. It is a more complicated realisation of the human brain's psychedelic geography, yo!
