I saw them at Manchester Apollo last month,
It was a great gig, but lasted almost three hours, non-stop.
Of course I wasn't as naive as I may sound, I expected this from a prog rock band.
But as much as I love The Mars Volta does anyone actually enjoy standing there for three whole hours?
For me it gets a bit tedious? Queries?
It was an odd experience for me
I started getting grumpy at about the 2 hour mark. I was on my own and my neck started hurting and I was kind of begging for it to end. I stayed the whole 3 hours then on the walk home it suddenly hit me that i'd just watched one of the tightest rock bands play pretty much flawlessly whilst putting on an amazing show for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT. Staggering.
Yeah
I felt the same.
It was worth it just for the drummer :D shit that guy was good!
yeah he was unbelievable
preferred jon theodore's style to his, but he was certainly extremely talented.
Wish I'd gone to the Mancs show
I love it when Cedric gets pissed off and starts acting out.
Sound at Brixton was a bit flat. Still one of my fave bands, their ATP was amazing. Shall be attending the Roundhouse show too.
shit!
why did no one tell me they were playing roundhouse?
The key for me is drinking a lot of spirits and taking a quick break during my least favourite songs to go to the bar/toilet. Then I stampede back to the front and get into it again. 3 hours flies by
I really have no problem standing
You're not really standing for longer than a normal gig seeing as they come on so early and with no support.
Take some speed or something :)
If it had been seated (I was at the glasgow show)
it would have been alot more enjoyable, I could quite happily sit and watch them for days on end but standing it was a bit of an endurance test.
yes
Their live shows do get irritating, 10 minutes of just noise at times. If it wasn't for the limit of 80 minutes on a disc every album would be 6 hours long.
I dunno
they've yet to succumb to the double album curse (here's hoping it stays that way).
