So far all I can think off is:
Meet Me In St. Louis
DFA1979
Test Icicles
all 10/10 or 9/10 albums.
Wish Bloc party had done it:(

Lift to Experience

^this

is what I though when I read the title

Amen...

to that. Wish they'd done their reunion shows around the world, and not just in NYC :(

DFA1979 released 2 albums

Technically 3, but one was a remix album.

American Football x a billion
Owls x alot but not quite a billion

totally forgot American Football.

how schoolboy of me.

What were the two DFA ones? You're not counting Heads Up! are you?

I was yeah

I see its now listed as an EP on Wikipedia. That never used to be the case!

Someone's gonna inevitably say

"I wish Bloc Party had released a great album".

I'd like that someone to be me.

Lift to Experience

Life Without Buildings

Life Without Buildings

seconded

Colour of Fire

Fickle Public

colour of fire's album

was shit.

WRONG.

young marble giants.

los campesinos? a bit pre-emptive, perhaps. they're hardly being subtle about it though.
life without buildings, yes.

^^

Young Marble Giants - greatest ever record by a band who released only one album.
Been listening to it now consistently for 28 years. I think that says a lot.

ZWAN

well i liked it :(

Me too!

Mary Star of the Sea is a fantastic summer soundtrack. Solidarity, my friend. Our time will come.

dfa 1979????

you gotta be kidding if you think they ever released anything 9 or 10/10

too right

it was at least an 11/10 album

*69/10

WAYHEY!!!!!

^This

Rival School

United By Fate

I could be embaressingly wrong

but havent they got a new one out soon?
or are they touring again or something?

That would

happify me greatly. I know some sort of master tapes for a second album did end up on the internet a while back but I'm not counting it.

Well

they did 'half release' a 2nd album!

Rodan

Clor

yes, Clor

You beat me to it.

this^

^absolutley this

Clor were the first band that came to mind.

LIFT TO EXPERIENCE

God I wish I'd seen them. And that they'd written loads more of excellent records.

And that I was a little bit taller. And a 'baller. But that's not strictly relevant.

The Fall

fail.

of a joke.
;)

life without buildings

defs.

Lift to experience, yes!

Josh t pearson's solo stuff isn't as mighty.

Nothing is as mighty.

Met him at the Dirty 3 ATP. I hugged him, told him I loved his beard, and then had a moment of paranoia and said: "You are Josh Pearson, aren't you?"

He said "No, I'm his Dad", which I thought was the funniest thing I'd ever heard. In retrospect, it wasn't.

Later in the evening he remembered me. Yay.

I like...

DNA - A Taste Of DNA
Indian Summer - Science 1994
The Unit Ama - Self Titled
Polaris - Polaris
Bullet Union - Ruins Domino
The Copperpot Journals - Pilots

I know I'm missing something vital off of this list though, but hey who cares.. Quicksand did actually release 2 records by the way.

I also thought..

that this page would be filled with faraquet fans stomping down the view from this tower.

copperpot journals

did three albums.

and that indian summer album might not even count because it's technically a singles compilation.

well..

I was under the impression they did 2 eps and plotting was another ep, or mini album so to speak, thats what it said when they released it at least.

Polaris did in fact have an album released into obscurity but none the less still an album, so that probably doesnt count so much.

No-one said anything about singles compilation not counting!

which quicksand album

manic compression or slip?

ah

i guess slip. didnt realise there were 2. this is orgasmic news

^ pretty sure

I own two Quicksand albums.

Slip and Manic Compression

My Bloody Valentine?

Loveless is a shitload better than isn't anything.

I know they got back together, but that's not the point

The Cooper Temple Clause

...in my mind.

don't unnerstan

"bands that release one great album then split"

MBV released some EPs, one good album, then one great album, then no more albums, then split.

?

and, indeed,

Neutral Milk Hotel

unless the band in question is only allowed to release one album in their whole career, that was also great.

that's what i was getting at

is the band only allowed to release one album in total? or just split up after making their great album? tis not clear.

Well

all the examples in the first post brought out just one album.

I guess

but i wasn't sure

I can't be arsed

thinking about bands from years gone by but The Chalets spring to mind as a recent band whose untimely demise left us all with one great album to cherish forever!!

Jar

Crew

Well the same album twice.

i'll

second that!

Ghosts and vodka

Bullet Union
Oxes
Young widows? not too sure on that one
Pitchfork

oxes

have 2 albums and a few EPs. all are excellent

plus, they're still together.

I think. I hope!

yeah

i haven't heard any news to the contrary

that ghosts and vodka

album was good....i remember now....where did i put it?

:D

They failed on 3 counts...

WIVES

hmmm

they're not a band
they held all their albums in captivity
they'll be AROUND FOREVA

Desaparecidos??

1 album, then splitsy

they might be back

they were the best thing Conor did, but i think Denver Dailey's first statistics album is on par.

Hell yes

ummm

the La's and Seahorses always spring to mind when this topic rears its heed.

now its overhead

did they bring out anything other than fall back open?

cos id like to hear it

Yes

They have another album. I think it's self titled but i'm not certain as I downloaded it.

aw,

unicorns!

The Exploding Hearts

But they split in a very different way.... :(

Tapes 'n Tapes

Like if they split up right now and destroy all the copies of the new one. You can maybe tell that I'm thinking I shouldn't have bought tickets to their upcoming Manchester gig and instead go and seen Tokyo Police Club the same night.

Test Icicles

although I always thought that if they hadn't split and made another album, I would have hated it. I guess it makes their 1 album more special, in a way.....

Next time you see me I'll be dancing on PEEEEEEGGGGGSSSSSSS!!!

The Organ

R.I.P. :-(

Submarine

Wade
Scarce
Liquorice

I second

Scarce. Deadsexy was exactly that.

i second this!

such a shame they split, grab that gun was ace!

Rites Of Spring

Embrace

THE POSTAL SERVICE

fo' sho'

THAT

is a good call

and i would also say LWB, LTE and YMG like everyone else here. good god i'm dull.

.

minor threat? only one album proper.

unless you count the complete discography cd?

The Bureau

.. and also Dexys, arguably, since there were only 2 members in common between the first and second album.

The Monks - Black Monk Time

I think I got one that fits the original criteria of the thread

Rapeman - 2 Nuns and a Pack Mule

im warming up now

I can only think of

DFA 1979 and Test Icicles, but at least their split gave me Dev and Ilove Lightspeed Champion so I forgive them for splitting

I can only thing of Jeff Buckley as another, does death count?

Slits

Cut

no, they had a second album

Return Of The Giant Slits.
Difficult Second Alnum syndrome but worth a listen.

tiger...

i liked their album anyway. definitely dogs die in hot cars (as is being praised in a thread elsewhere).

Test Icicles

Awesome album. Shame Lightspeed Champion is so bland.

The La's
