Seriously.
Who else is there?
Utah Saints, Chumbawamba......the fucking Pigeon Detectives?
There should be a statue of The Wedding Present in the centre of Leeds, David Gedge's birthday should be a public holiday throughout Yorkshire. The fact that it isn't...the fact that this band are not chased through the streets by rabid tykes tossing confetti and bursting into spontaneous applause fills my heart with sadness.
yeah they're quite good
bilge pump.
but yeah wedding present, yes.
and seconded about the public holidays.
wedding present > most things.
* THE wedding present.
Another reason to attend Bestival!
: )
but
also a factor in the indie tracks vs latitude debate.
There's a debate?
Indietracks is the week after Latitude/Truck/Camp Bestival/Benicassim/Glade/Lovebox.
yeah but
money/holidays/flights. can't afford both...
indietracks
also has steam trains. The others do not.
Hood are/were better
LOLZ
File under also rans.
They were also
from Wetherby, however.
Now, Pale Saints, on the other hand...
They are indeed great.
They're doing an instore in Brighton near the end of May. I was thinking about maybe going. Catch up with some Brighton DiSers at the same time.
Sweet.
Rounder?
Rounder what?
I haven't played rounders since I was 15.
Rounder the Brighton record store.
Oh, I dunno.
I need to get details and look into it.
you clearly haven't heard
This Et Al.
O Rly?
I have and can only conclude that you haven't heard The Wedding Present.
'formed in 1985'
hardly at the forefront of cutting edge modern music are they? they don't sound anything special on their myspace.
yeah grandad
I don't remember titling the thread.....
'Best skinny jeans wearing Art Rocker readers who may well end up getting a song played on Skins from Leeds'
<3
Get Seamonsters.
And then come back and say the same thing.
Fuck me!
You'd never actually heard them (or perhaps even heard of them) until a few minutes ago, had you?!!
oh dear...
Quite!
no, i hadn't
Jesus fucking Christ, shoot me down for my ignorance. Ever considered the fact that everybody hasn't heard every band that everybody else has, in the world, ever? And to reply to other people, I don't read artrocker, and as far as I'm aware, This Et Al will probably never have a song played on Skins or care about it, so I don't understnad the point of that comment. And no, I haven't heard of Seamonsters. OMG, shoot me down!
no but the point is.
you went in saying that this et al were better than the wedding present without knowing who the wedding present were!!
Nothing wrong with not having heard of
a band, although The Wedding Present are pretty fucking important (and local to you), but, similarly there's no point in bullshitting and suggesting that This Et Al are better!
Don't get me wrong, they're a decent enough band, but, they're not in the same league and never will be.
very true
but i share much love for TEA, and take any chance to namedrop them in an effort to make the general public more aware x
This Et Al are dreadful.
The best band in Leeds at the moment is Mob Rules, but that's besides the point.
Favourite Wedding Present record this week is Bizarro. Liable to change very often, though.
Bizarro is my current favourite too.....
but it was Seamonsters a few days ago.
TEA, dreadful?
I can't take you seriously any more. Not that I knew who you was in the first place.
It's okay
I have no idea who you are either, and am apathetic to say the least.
i'd just kill myself.
HE DIDN'T KNOW WHO YOU WERE.
oh dear.
aren't we flippant tonight?
TEA do blow chunks.
Wait until Jamie_Summers gets here...
GRRRRRRRRRRRR!
...theeeere we go.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
:D
david gedge is so awesome!
they're a headspinning aftertaste!
for sure
Noone has said...
..Gang of Four.
DOH
completely forgot about them. however the wedding present > gang of four.
they come second though.
so true
closely followed by Cinerama ;o)
My Favourite Dress
what a tune....the outro...joyful
did anyone else
like take fountain and saturnali, interstate 5 is a brilliant song.
take fountain is wonderful
it's so wonderfully dark, even for a Gedge record.
No love for CUD?
If they were a new band today they would be bigger than Jesus.
'The Wedding Present' exist in my head in the same compartment
as 'Ned's Atomic Dustbin': say nothing, forgettable, mid 90s indie. However, having found out earlier this week that the Great Albini recorded Seamonsters I feel I should actually listen to the band rather than relying purely on my old prejudices
Soft Cell!!
Take. my. tears. and. that's. not. nearly. AALLL...
Actually, I just came in here to say Gang Of Four, but someone's already mentioned them. So I'm going to throw The Mekons & Delta 5 into here as well. Word.
Hood
are obviously great as well, but again, already mentioned...
