That would be me then...

We did a deal with Coalition/Warners in 97, which ran for 18 months before Coalition got shut down by Nick Philips and the bands involved got shelved for a year, which pretty much destroyed the bands and the label (at that point it was Helen Love, Urusei Yatsura, Lilys, Gel and Fuxa).

I do Club AC30 with Robin & Dunk, which is basically a hobby, we all have day jobs, and Vinita has Rocket Girl and various management stuff going on. Nick

Gel!

We used to play with them quite a bit. They had the potential to be pretty big.

Rosie & Jim

should have been a big hit !

heh

their cover of Eternal Flame was all kinds of ace.

Gel

They were basically Busted or McFly way before their time. Couple of years later and they coulda been massive.

Same with Bark Psychosis and Disco Inferno, pre-empted PostRock by about five years (Mogwai, Interpol etc etc).

It's a shit business :D

Busted or McFly...

but so much better obviously...

oo

I happened to be in CAVA studios the same time Urusei Yatsura were recording their last LP. Loved them so muchhhhhh

we might finally have

a Projekt a-ko album...
Yeah !

we will indeed

i heard from fergus the other day, and unless my memory really sucks, it's out later in the year...

great label

and the distro was a fantastic source of tiny releases on other labels too - i got the first delgados single from che mail order amongst many other things.

used to love getting the 'zine 64 Slices Of American Cheese in the post when in uni. an invaluable pointer to many weird and wonderful gems.

was great to write to little labels like che, guided missile, wurlitzer jukebox with your cheque for £2.50 and get a little letter back with your purchase. good to hear you're still enthusastic nick.

Gel=

brilliant.

Sorry but am having a complete mental block about names but I was the guy that came from Alderholt and went to the pub with you that time when we were both escaping our families.

Was that you?

heh

Alderholt was a right dump. I vaguely remember this, I would have been there at the time.

Thats right

there was two of you, and Nick and Robin is def ringing bells.

You leave Alderholt alone. It marries the remoteness of living in the country with the bleakness of living in a city suburb.

haha

That sums it up quite well! Depressing place, there was about 2 buses a day out of the place (or a 20 min walk to fordingbridge to get a real bus).

Luckily the folks moved to France.

The bus system

was massively improved. Then no one used it so it was cancelled again.

My folks are still there but fortunately I am not.

Have just seen your pic, was def you - good stuff.

Yeah I remember

We went to that crappy pub in Alderholt, Vinita was there as well?

The Churchill Arms

has gone a bit gastro now but the locals dont seem to like it so suspect it will go back to being grot again fairly soon.

Yeah thats where we went, was a good trip if i rememebr rightly, considering the shitness of the pub, the shitness of the villae and the fact that I hadnt met any of you before.

Dont think there was anyone else there apart from you two, but could be wrong.

heh

that pub was alright. i escaped there quite a few times... wasn't many other places to go around there though really.

SIXTY FOUR SLICES OF AMERICAN CHEESE

I remember getting the Disco Sucks box-set, playing Merzbow and running to the other room weeping small adolescent tears. WHY DIDN'T THEY SOUND LIKE SPARE SNARE?

Good times.

massive ^5

are you actually me?

SIXTY FOUR SLICES OF AMERICAN CHEESE

amazing!!! used to be the best mail out.just rumedged through a box and found all my old copys.oh the joy

Them were the days

We used to mail out 10,000+ of them, sticker and stamp them ourselves. Cost us 4K each time. And Bis called us Fake DIY. The fuckers.

As a famous rapper might say, Forget About Bis.

We all loved it. So much so that my evening is now going to consist of listening to Tripmaster Monkey and Urusei Yatsura.

That email should surely have been headed
