Has there been a thread about this film already? I'm sorry if there has been.. but I saw it for the first time last night and I thought it was amazing! I saw it with three friends.. one hated it, one loved it and one was indifferent. It's definitely not for everyone but if you want to see something strange.. I'd recommend it!
It's about a Michael Jackson impersonator that meets a Marilyn Monroe impersonator in Paris.. she takes him to her impersonator commune in the scottish highlands where he meets all the other impersonators.. Charlie Chaplin, the Pope, Abraham Lincoln, Shirley Temple, Madonna, James Dean and more..
I think the thing I enjoyed the most was the very strange sub-plot about a priest in the jungles of Panama that partakes in some charity work with some very adventurous nuns.. oh and also the scene where the other impersonators decide that 'the Pope STINKS' and bathe him outdoors while he cries.. so good.
and the whole film LOOKS great.. some amazing scenes.. see it if you can! it is only playing here for three days (ridiculous) but hopefully it's around where you are.. yes.
Thanks for getting that daft song stuck in my head
it's in mine too!
It's replaced the Frosties song, which can only be a good thing
frosties song has now replaced mister lonely for me
I bet the frosties kid is quite lonely.
"You fools!"
I avoided this even though I liked the premise
because I read some awful reviews.
Perhaps I'll catch it on DVD.
^ exactly this
yes
i saw that it got some bad reviews.
it's definitely not for everyone but if you're willing to let a little bit of weirdness into your life, then you might enjoy it.
it was just one of those moments where that exact film filled the little film-sized void in my brain. good times.
this definitely sounds like my type of movie :)
thanks for the heads up, i will check it out if possible!
OMG HARMONY MADE THIS?!
i just watched the trailor..god has he gone soft :) ahah. amazing. i'm so in.
it doesn't come to theatres here til april 30th though..blaaaaah.
oh yeah!
should've mentioned harmony korine! yay go see it!
i will i will i will i will i will!!!!!!
i am damn excited. god. yelpyyippieeee!!!
have been meaning to see this for ages
and will get around to it! harmonie korine, aaah. he did a q&a at the london film festival, i was so bummed to miss it.
the reviews don't put me off at all (for once), though i'm relieved to read your positive one.
cheers!
The Q&A
was really really great, he was in a good mood
I'm pissed that this film vanished from London cinemas after a week though
how come the UK has got it
before north america? i don't get it..
or has it only been in film festivals so far?
It was at the London film festival
last year but opened here a couple of weeks ago but only 2 cinemas were showing it, both of which have now stopped. Hmph.
i guess i will just watch like a hawk
to make sure i don't miss it, in case it has the limited time release here in canasda too.
it's so annoying how the best of films are hardly shown.
it's all about supply & demand
unfortunately.
yeah, similar situation up here
first of all, the film never made it in time for the glasgow film festival! (the actual physical film never made it into the country) so it got cancelled.. but they ran it this week for three days.. last day today. annoying.
:D
i'm always nervous about giving out film recommendations because everyone has their own opinions about things but i thought it was worth it this time considering the bad reviews it got.
.
Ive been really interested in this for ages but the bad reviews have put me off somewhat.
The clips I've seen look great though - the bit with the Jackson impersonator in the old folks home telling them not to die... haha.
hahah yeah!
aw i forgot about that bit! yeah so good! i really liked it! i wish i could see it again before it disappears..
as a general rule, i tend not to listen to reviews.. it's one person's opinion.. i like to form my own. like in this case!
here it is :)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fjnPN1POAro
and an interview with Harmony
when he starts doing that high-pitched
"don't die! don't die!" i actually cried with laughter :)
saw this a couple of weeks ago
it's amazing. i had typed out a big reply but i pressed abandon reply, oh well. summary: it's great, go see it. a lot more accessible than korine's other films {but i love them too}.
although there were two irritating fuckwits behind me who talked {loudly} all the way through it when i went to see it. it was the wednesday afternoon showing at the cameo {indie cinema in edinburgh}, which is only £1.50 if you are a concession {ie student, retired or on benefits}. and without meaning to sound too ridiculously snobby the people behind me were older but not pension age and were just generally stupid fucking twats.
not that everyone on benefits is stupid, of course not. but these people were. if you don't like or don't "get" a film then just fucking LEAVE, don't spoil it for the rest of us
