Fountains of Wayne

I think Fountains of Wayne are great. Everyone I know seems to disagree, leading to countless arguments in the pub about their merits.

The trouble is, most people have only ever heard "Stacey's Mom", which I freely admit is a little bit shit - albeit with a saucy video involving Rachel Hunter.

Judging their whole back catalogue on that one song is like saying Supergrass are rubbish because that "Alright" song was a bit annoying.

Basically, they've written some of the best pop songs in the last 10 years, won a shedload of awards and received a 9 and an 8 from DiS for their first and third albums (the latter being described as a "classic").

Give them a chance!

I fully expect everyone to start venting their spleens right about.........now.

No spleen venting here

I love this band as much as breathing.

first album good

second album a near flawless work of suburban genius [with the exception of 'laser show' which should never have been committed to tape]
third album disappointing but at least half full of good stuff
fourth album a horrible waste of space. but in typical FoW style, still had one good song on it [strapped for cash... FoW go ELO, brilliant]

in conclusion, <3.

My FoW collection

is entirely Gen (and Adie's) fault...no complaints, mind.

First album great (trailing off slightly after Leave the Biker)
Second album frequent moments of greatness, but the odd dull moment (hello Fine Day For A Parade) and the aforementioned Laser Show, which is dire.
Third album...what Gen said, I guess. At least three songs sound exactly the same (though two of them are in the good half), and why the hell does Peace And Love exist?
Fourth album, didn't even bother with...

Oops

It was actually their first album DiS called a classic. Which it is.

i liked

too cool for school.

it was cool
