Ha,
I bought this about 30 minutes ago. Carla Bozulich is one of my favourite people, so I have no doubt it'll be excellent...
'evangelista'
was such a brilliant album...
Yes
I love it. Have you heard Scarnella? I love that record... nothing can beat the Geraldine Fibbers for me though.
No
My record shop can't get it anymore apparently...
Shame
I picked it up off ebay - a good precursor to what Carla's doing now, but with added Nels Cline.
she's interviewed...
...in next Plan B. gave incredibly long and effusive/tangential answers, as you can imagine; rules.
It's so awesome.
She'll be playing with the new band at the in London on 27th April at the Old Blue Last.
Hopefully
she'll come to Paris too...
Listened to this for first time last night
It's a bit all over the place but I enjoyed it, certainly made me want to listen again.
Seem to remember listening to Evangelista when it came out and not liking it, may have to revisit
It's a very painful album
beautiful but difficult to enter into...
so i finally got around to hearing (most of) this
it's really great: much more concise than I was expecting and all the better for it. There's still a few moments that get a bit too self-important but for the most part it's very arresting. i hope i can make one of the shows on the UK tour.
Polly Shang confirmed to support
on the 27th! Woo!
self-important ?
yeah
there's bits of the record that are really grandiose and seem far too self-conscious in the "drama" department to my ears. i'd guess that's partly down to the band members with 'post-rock' experience really. The best songs are the shorter ones; I appreciate that they wouldn't have the same impact without the quieter moments, but once you've set the tone with some short blasts at the start of the record, spending too long before the next one gets a little tiresome.
The best parts of the record are fantastic though, I don't want to bitch too much.
Problem is :
when people are a bit ambitious and trying to do things a bit differently, they're fast accused of being pretentious or self-important.
Obviously some tracks aren't working as well as others, but it's always good to see a band trying to achieve something.
oh, certainly
but i thought that those tracks were the most retrograde parts of the record.
I do get what you mean.
But sometimes the longer tracks work best. Like the title track of the previous album, it's harrowing as fuck and all the better for being nine minutes long.
UK shows?!?
Why can't I find anything out about this?
I've become slightly obsessed with this album! I was hoping they'd be added to EITs ATP but i think thats wishful thinking
look on the myspace
