Tromatic Reflexxions by Von Südenfed. Although this album did seem to get alot of coverage in blogs, websites, magazines etc, i think people seemed to focus on the bizarre notion of this collboration and didnt focus on the music.

this sibsequently led to lazy comparisons with lcd soundsystem and all that sort of stuff. this is such a great and entertaining album and its a shame it didnt really get the chance to stand up on its own two feet due to mark e. smith's reputation and james murphy's imitations

It's a tie between three:

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
M.I.A. - Kala

I wish they'd earned more recognition

Um

I think he was taking the piss...

i think its probably...

the MIA record. Bjork was okeeeyyy

What about

Battles?

^ yeah

that really needed more exposure, too.

Aye

M.I.A. deserved it too. And Panda's album is good. It's just that they were everywhere, and consistently reading about them became rather infuriating

Absolutely,

I won't be happy until M.I.A. is on the front cover of every single magazine in the world. Even ones that aren't about music.

I'm sorry. My lies are making baby Jesus cry.

not sure you could call it the most underrated album of 2007

but nevertheless it is very good, and approximately ten times better than last year's Fall LP.

MES sounds much more animated on the Von Sudenfed album - Serious Brainskin and Flooded are mental. Plus, The Rhinohead is a fine pop tune.

DUFFY....

oh, sorry, you said 'under'....

and...

2007!
good start to the week....

I thought

Wu Tang Clan's Eight Diagrams was a brilliant return to form, their best collective album since their debut and the best Wu Tang release since Supreme Clientele, and one of if not the best hiphop album of 2007.

Noone else agreed, in fact it barely got a review from most places!

..

got about seven soft releases and is due another..

ah right.

I totally missed this review, what with the weird way DiS seems to display it's reviews (could you not list them like Pitchfork does, instead of an assortment of 5? A lot of reviews must get lost using that system.) Good review by the way...

what about Forever!?

Its by far my greatest Wutang effort, probably the best hip hop production ever for me

i mean 'the' not my!

Although i do wish i could produce like the RZA!

Last year saw great albums

from Jonathan Krisp, Odd Nosdam, Ozomatli and Cue that didn't seem to get a mention anywhere. I think Von Sudenfed have a way to go before they can be considered that underrated.

underated albums

liars - a really great album, but hasn't sold very well...

Either

Air Formation 'Daylight Storms' or Kubichek 'Not Enough Night'.

dunno bout

air formation, coz i aint heard that

but kubicheks albums was fuckin brilliant, criminally underrated

craigx

hasn't it?

where'd you hear that?

on the...

official chart website!

But people still talk about it

When's the last time you heard anyone mention Ditherer?

Does no-one like Fog, or something? I can't understand it, given that in the studio they have the same lineup as Why? and everyone rims them (quite rightly.

Fog's album disappointed me

For me it wasn't as good as their previous one, which wasn't anywhere near as good as the lovely Ether Teeth.
Ditherer was too much of a standard indie-rocky album for me. Maybe I'll one day go back to it and like it more, but it hasn't happened yet.

i don't think it really was underrated in the way you say

plenty of places concentrated on the music, and i don't really recall any LCD comparisons. They certainly weren't very pronounced anyway

And they did get a lot of coverage, despite being fairly niche. So "most underrated" isn't a title that can be applied

What, outside DiS?

Or were you taking the piss?

no

it only just got into the DiS top 50

hmm

epic45 - may your heart be the map

woelv

Alone in the Forest in the Middle of the Day, Are You Scared?

or Adrian Orange and Her band the pitchfork review made me angry

Kevin Drew - Spirit If

Broken Social Scene front man throws out an awesome album that pitchfork loved in their review which sounds practically the same as a self titled BSS release anyway. It's really solid but apart from the glowing reviews it got when it came out i've not heard anyone talking about it. It was hardly on anyones end of year lists but it was probably my album of the year :(

I really liked the album..

..if that's any consolation.

The Coral - Roots and Echoes

brilliant grower of an album.

I also loved Astronomy for Dogs by The Aliens which was given a critical mauling for reasons I cannot fathom

The coral and aliens

am so with you on both those counts Colonel!

Nina Nastasia and Jim White

You follow me

Superb lyrics and the simple interplay of acoustic guitars and off-kilter drums is amazing.

yesyesyes!

my thoughts exactly. an amazing record... sparse and beautiful! god, how i love nina nastasia!

yay

it's not just me. This is why I love DiS. I do not feel so alone now.

Mother & the addicts

Science Fiction Illustrated.

Iron & Wine

or the Kanikaze Hearts (that could have been 2006 - I only heard it in 2007)

Iron & Wine?

Hell, no.

Surely one of the most overrated albums of 2007: nowhere near as good as their earlier stuff yet blowjobbed by most decent music 'zines.

You Lie

its great much more my cuppa tea than endless days etc.. but each to there own..

god

all i wanted to do was go on about von sudenfed in this post, not prompt people to list all their boring opinions on underrated albums of the year. i guess i phrased the title of the post wrong...never mind.

any excuse..

well...

von sudenfed is a rather good audio experience

Pantha du Prince - This Bliss

Its all I can listen to. Still.

Dan Deacon - Spiderman Of The Rings

Of all the people I know, I am the only person to own this album. It's incredible, it should be huge. He's clearly a big deal in the States, I'm hoping that 2008 is the year he gets more recognition over here.

It's a fabulous album,

but it's also bat-shit crazy, and people generally don't 'get' bat-shit crazy, at least not radio-listening type people. Frankly I'm amazed M.I.A's doing so well, considering, but the difference is she's totally shit. Maybe being bat-shit crazy and shit at the same time is the key to success. Who knows? I'm confused myself, now.

Papercuts - Can't Go Back

I'm surprised I had to find this album "on my own".

Ola podrida

still listen to this a lot but didn't hear much about it when released.

'Rich Boy' - Rich Boy

'Some Loud Thunder' – Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

'Random Spirit Lover' – Sunset Rubdown

'Greatest Hits' – Skepta

'Drenched in the Poisons' – The Villains

'In Advance of the Broken Arm' – Marnie Stern

'Return of the Mac' – Prodigy

'Les Ondes Silencieuses' – Colleen

'Epiphany' – T Pain

'Buck the World' – Young Buck

'Pilgrimage' – Om

Random Spirit Lover

admittedly.

The rest. No.

Idiot Pilot - Wolves

Without a doubt.

Yep

I love the VS album. I should really check out some Mouse on Mars - if their own stuff is anywhere near as good it should be a treat.

Von sudenfed is a good shout

also pop had a great year. Rihanna, Britney and girls aloud were all top.

Mouse on Mars are very very good

Get their Iaora Tahiti album or maybe the Rost Pocks EP Collection. There's some great stuff on both.

Robyn

.

Shout Out Louds - Our Ill Wills

Drr...

Hacride - Amoeba

Very good Tech Metal band from France

what about...

Bright Channel - Self Propelled
Studio - Yearbook 1
ModeSelektor - Happy Birthday
Black Lips - Good Bad Not Evil
Grails - Burning Off Impurities

Silversun Pickups

Carnavas. Ranging I missed them at Marley Park.

Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero

His best since The Downward Spiral. Possibly, in a certain mood, even better. But still, considering the critical praise, it seemed to have been deemed too 'unfashionable' to make most people's top 50 of 2007 lists even though it belonged on it more than most of the other picks.

^ This got rave reviews

what you on about?

Phosphorescent

Pride

Was dismissed too easily. It's weird, beautiful and mysterious.

Shearwater - Palo Santo

So underrated it was a crime. Better than Okkervil River by a mile

Skeletons and the Kings of All Cities

Lucas

and the Sunset Rubdown/Frog Eyes albums were excellent as well.

Alasdair Roberts

The Amber Gatherers. Just beautiful.

errr

wasn't Palo Santo released in 2005 or something?

Anyway, my one is Windmill - Puddle City Racing Lights. Just ask twee loser.

OK I see there was an 'expanded edition'

released last year. Still think that's cheating.

These two

Marnie Stern - In Advance of a Broken Arm
Mika Miko - C.Y.S.L.a.B.F

Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold

Didn't get anywhere near as much recognition as it deserved.

For me...

... it was San Serac's album Professional.

Worth checking out if you like Junior Boys/LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip & Co.

The Stars album

Got fairly average reviews in every publication I saw and didn't feature in a single end of year poll I read. But it was lovely.

Also - Drums & Guns by Low (which got fairly good reviews but again, completely overlooked in end of year lists).

....

Giant by Herman Dune
