Ok our netlabel's going to go online soon.
But we're looking for more artists who are are interested in open source distribution of their material.
This means users can download a zip file from an artist containing oggs of final tracks and a 'source' folder of all the audio files, vst.synth configs, circuit bent toy schemata etc used.
Artists would usually be protected under the creative commons 'sharealike' licence at the moment that gives permission for unlimited copying of your tracks and the use in other open-source only projects. Other licences are avilalbe for commercial use of your tracks.
We're trying to work out an alternative to this and copyleft but it will do for now.
From time to time and when we can afford it vinyl and cd pressings will be made at our expense and we will give 50% of sales to the artist.
any style of music but at the moment noise, chiptune, tracker music and glitch seems to be coming in.
let us know if any of you are interested
^
sounds like an interesting plan... any idea when you'll be implementing it?
:)

Mid April hopefully
website's done and the content is coming in.
hoping to big it up at a band night for another label in april.
Including the source
...is an idea tinged with mad genius. If you want to go the whole copyleft hog, though, sharealike won't work too well, as ideally you want remixers to share their source as well. If you want to compel them to do this (as opposed to making redistribution of the source voluntary - which might work), then you need something more akin to the gpl. Send me a note if you want to talk about this further - I do a lot of work in this area and helped draft the England and Wales CC licences.
Good luck!
Andrew
cheers
Our first release was cc sharealike.
I was of the understanding that sharealike allows modified distribution as long as the original author is credited.
Although, you are right, a licence covering exactly what we want to do is still needed.
WE do jsut want to get something out there..and hte primary concern that artists are worried about are authorship and at least their moral right to be credited. That's why I applied th sharealike licence for the time being.
i'll send yo ua note with what we want to do. Thanks for your help
This is a really interesting idea.
I'm signed to a label already so not really useful for me but an excellent idea nonetheless.
Good luck with it...
chiptune, tracker music and glitch
Suddenly I feel very out of touch. :(
:D
I jsut stuck em in so the 'kids' will read it.
Although tracker and chip have been around as a major scene since the 80s, a massive boom in the early nineties and a bad techno death in the late nineties.
Then a couple of year back Malcom Mclaren enthused about his new musical 'invention' in wired magazine and all of a sudden 'chiptune' is very in
the basic one
is up.
