link to times and places everyone is playing. It's going to be a mission to sort out who I’m going to see. Anyone got good tips for sxsw.

The golden rule

is not to bother with bands that you can see in the UK any time. Check out others from elsewhere.

im missing out on this*im sad because of this

fluokids to a great dj set
autolux is a must
the kills obviously
akron family are pretty good live
electric touch are also good live

to name a few.

I was

Thinking of leaving out all the bands that tour the uk and just most uk bands cause there will be plenty of other times to see them. But that now leaves me with a lot of research to know the best to go to. I’m just taking it that most bands there will be good anyway. Starting to get quite excited now.

wooooooooop

March 12th..

Dirty Dog Bar
(505 E 6th St) (21+)

ASCAP
Johnny Foreigner 12:15 a.m.

So many bands ans so many venues....

where the hell to start?
I think I will let my good judgement and consumption of booze at the time dictate who I will go and see.
Bands, beers, bar-b-q, birds and the sun. Whats not to love about SxSW?!

In my humble opinion

My advice would be try and see as many people during the day shows and free parties as possible. Not always easy with a hangover from the night before but the free food and booze can help.

Having been last year

My top three tips:

1. Try and see alot of acts during the day in the free shows. Some of these require you to get on the guest list, but do some research (use this first link to get the names of teh companies putting them on) and email them to get on the guest lists

This site seems to list alot of day parties

I saw Foals at a day party last year, must have been 10 people in the room in all - it was brilliant

2. Definitely plan what/who you want to see each evening before you go. Sit down with whoever you go with and make a list of must sees, and plan you route. Most venues are on one street (6th) or 5 minutes walk from, but some are quite a way from the others. Take a look at the venue map on the SXSW site to see where the venues are in relation to each other and to where you are staying

3. Make sure you eat during the day. We got so hammered on the Wednesday evening last year because we had to get an early flight from Phoenix to Austin. I had to drive 4 hours from the Grand canyon to Phoenix, then get a flight, then straight to get badges and out to the gigs. No time for food, and were so pissed by teh end of the evening (after Mountain Goats in Emo's) that we made right tits of ourselves trying to get into another venue. Stock up on food and free beer during the day, avoid drinking too much at night

im definately seeing

a place to bury strangers and body of war

i tried planning over the weeekend. its a nightmare, really tempted by r.e.m in stubbs - but wont that require queueing for hours?

oh yeah

black mountain and why? look likely.

Have you bought a badge?

If so, then queuing (especially in the bigger venues like Stubbs) won't be an issue. Badges get let in first to all venues, then wristbands, then fee paying general public.

Although of course, that does then depend on venue capacity. Say of you went somewhere else in the evening and then rocked up to Stubbs 30 minutes before REM were due to play, you might struggle to get in.

If there is an act you REALLY want to see, you might have to sacrifice some other in order to make sure you are in the place

i have a badge

i dont actually mind queueing for a couple of hours or so (im expecting to have to spend a really long time for that body of war thing). ill just see what happens, theres so much on i want to see its stupid.

some of the day party lineups look awesome. mess with texas 2 on the sat looks rather swish

The Breeders
NOFX
Simian Mobile Disco + Islands + Kimya Dawson + Black Mountain + Yeasayer + F*cked Up + Lucero + Jay Reatard + No Age + Neon Neon + Pissed Jeans + Atlas Sound + Two Gallants + White Denim + Matt & Kim
Municipal Waste + The Night Marchers (featuring John Reis) + Howlin’ Rain + Dead to Me + Langhorne Slim + Shearwater + Gil Mantera’s Party Dream + Grand Ole Party + Darker My Love + Moonrats + Annihilation Time + The Coathangers + Abe Vigoda + + Mellowdrone + Monotonix + Aloha + Selmanaires

I saw..

Gil Mantera's Party Dream there 2 years ago by accident, it was mental. They ended the show in their pants having a huge fight with each other. Good times.

yep you'll probably struggle to get in

but it might be worth a shot.

I wanted to see Moz a couple of years ago but the queue was huge. Then they split the queue into badge holders and wrist band people and us badge holders got to breeze straight in past the weeping wrist band folks..
