The Hold Steady finish new album
Posted: 25 Feb '08, 16:16
Barroom heroes The Hold Steady have all-but-finished their fourth album, according to frontman Craig Finn.
Speaking to Pitchfork.com, along with guitarist Tad Kubler, the band revealed they just had to find artwork and mix and master the record, which will be called Stay Positive.
"There's a song called ‘Stay Positive’ we've been playing live,” added Finn, “and it was just something that's been kind of hanging around in my head a long time. I would say it's safe to say that's the name of the record.
The album will apparently see The Hold Steady branch out into more “adventurous” territory, Kubler revealing that producer John Agnello was responsible for the band’s adoption of mandolin, horns, harpsichord and strings on Stay Positive.
“In terms of fidelity or stereo range, I think John took a little different approach in the way we mixed it in terms of just using some hard pans and doing some things different, rather than just a compressed guitar rock record.”The band’s last effort came in the bleary-eyed shape of 2006’s Boys and Girls in America (review).
