Non-League Football

Hi guys,

It's been way too long since I've been to any live football, and seeing as I'm a poor student, I don't stand much chance of being able to afford a nice seat at the Emirates. Also, as ashamed as I am to admit it, I've never EVER seen live non-league football.

I need to sort this out. So, recommend me some non-league football teams it's worth making the trek to see, somewhere around London. I'm thinking Conference/Conference South/Ryman League levels, and yeah, I'm living in Zone 1 in central London, so, which clubs are worth the trek from there to see on a Saturday?

Lewes

Quick train ride, best ground in the country, Harveys on tap, quality Arsenal style football.

not only that

apparently in Lewes I can go to Thomas Paine's house, too! what a saturday! Thomas Paine and football!

This wins.

Tom Paine > anyone.

This is true

And Ann Boleyn's house too.

Lewes

Doing well too this season, aye.

Great pubs too... and that steep street...forget what it's called. My old primary school teacher runs an bohemian art gallery-cum-cafe there an ' all.

Not doing so well now

John Harvey for a pint of Harveys Best straight from the barrel is a must.

Watch out for thems Lewes locals

Lewes v Eastbourne for the Conf South title is pretty interesting.

There are bloody hundreds, all within either

an Oyster card bus/tube ride, or a very cheap train ride out.

Click on the Ryman league lists here and take your pick: http://www.tonykempster.co.uk/gridsindex.htm

but certainly visit Dulwich Hamlet.

Not non-league

but Barnet is a tenner for students and we all know they are great.

i know there's hundreds, that's why i asked for recommendations

i'll be sure to check out Dulwich Hamlet

Dartford's new ground looks

well worth a visit, if you can handle spending the afternoon in Dartford. Ebbsfleet are (were) a nice club with nice fans, but it's up to whether you want to give them any money after that farcical sell-out business. I'd vote no, personally.

where to start

with those idiots. Change the name of the club, then sell to a load of Championship Manager enthusiasts. Tits. Apparently Farsley Celtic want to change their name to FC Leeds

Canvey Island

always seemed like a decent outfit when they were up here in the conference... Alternately, just become an Altrincham fan, and watch them when they're down there.

Hendon

because you can then go to kilburn and see the worlds most attractive barmaid.

Hendon

Because the ground floats.

You've never seen her

so you can't comment.

I find it very hard to believe

that anyone who wants to sleep with you can be more attractive than the barmaid from the Vale.

You've only gone

and triggered the Kate Nash alarm!

hahahaha

ZING

I'll still

be taking your £20 you cunt.

carshalton!

i went down to see them from inverness, well kinda, i was going to a gig anyway...

seconded

carshalton/mitcham is where is at!

booo!!!!

Forget the Robins. There's only one team in Sutton, and that's Sutton United!

We're in a bit of a pickle at the moment, and we need all the support we can get!

You have to come along just to check out our unusually *ahem* coloured kit!

http://www.suttonunited.net/

Real nice pub

near Carshaltons ground as well. Best sausage and chips I've ever had - I do keep a list.

I've just moved to Sutton

do ya reckon I should go along? How much is it? I saw they were loitering at the wrong end of the table (and by some distance).

Thanking you

Get down there

Yes, definitely you should go. We have a home game tonight against Havant & Waterlooville (the non-league team that played Liverpool) and another home game on Saturday against Eastleigh.

Prices are: £10 adults, £5 student (with NUS) and Seniors, £3 kids. A student season ticket costs only £30! Bargain!!!

We are bottom of the league, but after winning at home on Saturday against Thurrock, another win tonight would see us off the bottom.

Start supporting, and be part of the great escape!

The ground is in Gander Green Lane, opposite the Plough pub. Postcode is SM1 2EY

Hope to see you there.

I think I'll go on Saturday

I've been meaning to go for ages. I used to love going to see Hereford when we were non-league.

I'll give you a wave when Sutton's third one goes in.

Excellent!

Bring your friends!

sutton? pfft

go to carshalton

Weirdly we (Hereford) just signed

someone off them in January although apparently he 'isn't ready' to actually play for us yet. That was value for money.

i made a fool out of myself

in front of a cute barmaid at the luminaire, once. d'oh

Oh really?

yeah, really

Can't give you any London recommendations

but I've been to every Wakefield FC home game this season (and a few away) and it's great fun. They're in the Unibond League 1st Division but, even at that level, you get some great football and some very entertaining matches!

.

oxford united, back on the up.

hop on the x90 and you're there.

as much as I would like to recommend it

Borehamwood is far too expensive for the what they offer. The stand is quite nice though.

Dorchester Town

My team.

Lovely stadium, which sometimes i dont feel we deserve.
However, dont let this season put you off, with our joke of a team and backroom staff. Our owner came in pre-season, made us full-time, things we're very positive and was expecting us to be challenging for play-offs.
But pretty much our entire board we're forced to resign and we only have 2 directors at the club.
Our team are in freefall, we've used over 30 players this season, no one wants to join us at the moment, and we are joint bottom.

Good times!! Hopefully next season in the Southern League will be more fun.
*sigh*

I hope you stay up

As a Weymouth fan

I gain no satisfaction from seeing you struggle, those guys in charge have really fucked you up.

Still, all will be ok when we merge...hmmm...

As a Yeovil fan...

I think that as entertaining as the merger rumours are, I hope both clubs survive independantly and if not... that at least Dorchester do!

:)

best bar

in the league as well...

Ruislip Manor

cheers

They're as good as out of business

after Wealdstone bought Grovesner Vale.

Good clubs to visit include Carshalton, Sutton, Dulwich, Tooting, Dartford, Welling, Bromley, Hampton & Richmond, Kingstonian... I'd just suggest steering clear of Essex.

ah you're joking

many happy memories of that place

'fraid not

went through the other week and the committee there were trying to scrape the money together to finish this season...

such a shame

I've been trained on that pitch by the likes of Martin O'Neill and Billy Bremner.

What are the plans for it now?

I think

temporarily Wealdstone will use it as their home ground from next season whilst their other new home ground at PEPF in Edgware (but is part owned by Barnet) is completed/delayed even further.

I just looked on their website

and they don't have any info about it but that's no great surprise. I did notice they have a president called Russell Grant who I'm willing to bet is THE Russell Grant.

Indeed

Russell Grant used to sponser the Middlesex Charity Cup and when he was a guest on Fantasy Football with Baddiel and Skinner presented the hosts with a Hendon shirt. He used to be a patron for a number of Middlesex Non League clubs.

I went to the opening

of Dallas Chemists by Russell Grant in Ruislip High St many years ago

AFC Wimbledon!

Good attendance.
Cheap (£9)
Fan's Run
Marcus Gayle!

What more could you want!

^^

The greatest team stevie wonder has ever seen...

Marcus Gayle was shit for us

However, our old manager Terry Brown is in charge, so kudos.

AFC Wimbledon!

Train out of Waterloo to Norbiton (zone 5) - takes about 30 minutes. 5-10 minutes walk.

Great atmos / reasonably upbeat at the moment despite not looking like having a hope for automatic promo to the Conf South. Highly recommended.

What about

Hayes and Yeading, one side who merged last year and sadly passed up the chance to be called Heading.

:D

So

are they now called Yayes? Because that's almost better.

Has to be the Mighty Shots

Aldershot, 50 mins on the train, top of the Conference and the atmosphere at the Rec is outstanding (by non-league standards)

All large flags

and no trousers

Good God. I've just found this:

For those who keep their football hooliganism strictly indie...that's right, it's non-league hooligans! Tired of fighting more than 10 people? You too can chat shit about once throwing a bottle at nine old men and a dog at Crawley. For crying out loud.

www.bebo.com/footyfirms

oh dear god

yeah you lot ran

no we didn't

yeah you did

no we didn't, we took right liberties

no you didn't

repeat to fade

There's a video of a ruck on street on that site

It's brilliantly shit.

it is rubbish

and not in the uk either by the looks of it.

Danny Dyer

brings you The Real Football Factories (Non League). This week with da Crawley Youth massive innit you mugs.

:

"wat eva bois am jus sayin there was onli 8 hu came in yer fair enuff ya had the guts to come in an sing n shit buh at the end of the dai a dnt see the point in u makin up shit that didn happen ? eg terrorisin us or sumfin ? that didn happen at all..that lil group didn even want it"

it's laughable

have you seen the state of the people who post on there. Jesus wept.

I'm finding this a lot more hilarious than I think I possibly should be.

Did you know, for instance, that Kettering have a firm? That's right. Did you also know that they call themselves the Show Crew?

Brilliant.

SHOE, even

Dammit.

The Shoe People?

*they're

I'm sad

at the omission of the St Albans firm.

Have you read the comments below that list? Incredible scenes.

Gainsborough Trinity - MIGS (Men In Gear)

Bwahaha

if you look at their photos

they are all about 15 and a couple wouldn't look out of place on here

I imagine

Wrightylew being in a firm.

ne1 wan dat ketterin pricks add?

if he went to a school in Northants, i can get it yeah. reckon we should form a DiS Crew and fuck him up.

(i did already search out of curiosity and found it so...)

2 people in the room i am in are from Kettering and neither have heard of The Shoe Crew. Methinks they do not have charity status.

More from this site please!

Yeovil would have run the lot of them in the old days, my father claims we had quite the element way back when.

I'm not glorifying this, I'm just interested!

that is the saddest site I've seen for ages

that Calum twat on there says he like spending time with his rock chick. If you click on her link it says she is single.

Can't blame her really

Wahay!

I have a total soft spot for the Shots. Hope you lot get the autopromo and stay on top...

Aldershot are a bit of an inspiration for AFC Wimbledon... the fact of being knocked to the very bottom, reforming and bouncing back (Alan Partridge - what do yuo kwo about bouncing back!).

And the bagde has got a phonenix from the flames in it too... just like our soot-blackened birdie.

Wahay indeed

Thanks for the support. I work with a Womble and always follow their results.
It would be great if you get back to the League one day. Just imagine AFC Wimbledon vs MK Dons.........

Take the

train up to kettering from St.Pancras and you'll get to watch the best player in non league football, JP Marna. Also there has been 14 goals in the last 2 home games which is great value for money!

okay, so so far

i'm looking at Dulwich Hamlet, Lewes, and Sutton United (because of the "interesting" kit)

Lewes vs St Albans

on March 15th should be fantastic. I'll buy you a beer.

sorted

i'll be there

Hendon

You can often get in cheap if you let warn whoever's on the turnstiles.

Bromsgrove Rovers

are the ONLY non-league football team worth following. We've got Daryl Burgess from the Albion and will soon have Paul Devlin from Blues playing for us.

WE HATE KIDDY, WE HATE KIDDY, WE HATE KIDDY, WE HATE KIDDY!
