You might have heard that it’s Hot Chip’s year, that they’re ready for the big time. Given that the band’s forthcoming tour sees them playing to crowds of four to five-thousand people at a time, you wonder how much bigger they can realistically get. ‘Ready For The Floor’ is an answer to that particular question; suggesting that they might not sell a million records, but ‘household name’ is an achievable status.

A bassline akin to bouncing jello and a chord change that uplifts the soul, it’s a slice of sweetly insistent ‘80s Italo-house lite. Which might sound rather niche, but you could also describe it as a piece of sophisticated mainstream pop. It's a creme fraiche pop banger.

There’s something incredibly sweet about the way that Alexis Taylor croons “you’re my number one guy” (already resulting in a number of European publications hilariously asking if this is, in fact, his ‘coming out’ statement), with his slim vocal full of nerdy sexual chocolate. But again, Hot Chip exude sweetness. Just don’t let them be swallowed and spat out by the fickle pop idle lovers.

good tune

Though I'm pretty sure it's Joe who sings the "number one guy" bit.

Come December time...

This is going to be a strong contender for Single of the Year. It's a cracking tune, I've been obsessed with it since I first heard it.

that

artwork is sick!

Like sick meaning good!

great band

here's hoping they do become a household name

Should do

This new album is pretty ace and should propel them to that level.

yeah

that is nice artwork (Y)

Argh!

Every band that remotely sounds like LCD gets special treatment these days... oi vey... ...Justice, now add Hot Chip.

Me: 6/10.

unfair really

Hot Chip are their own band, I wouldn't compare them to LCD really.

such a good song.

There's a little

two note jump in the keyboard bass bit in the chorus that reminds me of a C64 game or something.

Great song.

....

hot chip consistently amaze me, i became addicted to this single the moment i heard it and the album is immense

A Bassline like

Bouncing Jello Biafra.

Not really paid attention before...

but this single makes you sit up and listen!!

Interested to hear more from the Chip :)

new album

is quite good. 7/10 fare really.

come on then

what is so good about this? i've tried and tried but i still hate it. to me it sounds like white boys trying to do r & b without any soul or the necessary production skills topped by a vocal that would have been rejected by sarah records for being too fey.

:D

i disagree with your judgement though

question...

how do you think they go about writing this stuff? its just that theres quite a few members for what is in essence an electro band...do you reckon they come up with individual sounds/beats and then put them all together? or do they all crowd around a pc with fruity loops on it??

theyre so ace too!

..

i really dont like this
