Those who love the concept but were ultimately irritated by the unremitting, over-stuffed joyousness of The Polyphonic Spree, may just find a more enjoyable balance in the world of LA's indiest kids The Mae-Shi. Or in this single, at least.

Run To Your Grave’ is a sprint of high-spirited gang vocals and peeling guitars that, rather like the song's convivially-minded video, threaten to over-spill into overt lunacy but just about manage to stay in focus for the song’s duration. Taken from their forthcoming third album proper, HLLYH, it’s a promise of technicolour joy to come.

OMG

Flaming Lips clone alert

No flaming Lips clones

woah no no! The Mae Shi are amazing, so original! Unfortunately they have opted for a more pop-ey approach for their new album but their previous albums are incredible. Some of the best group vocals Ive heard!

flaming lips?

Ha! This song is the equivalent of a really messy group of children dressing up in their nicst clothes for a birthday party and being on their best behaviour.

i really like this song

alot poppier than their other records, but catchy as hell

Should have been a great 2:30 single

Runs a bit long. Love the music, hate the words. Is it so difficult for indie songwriters to match lyrics to musical feeling? This is a great upbeat riff that 5th graders everywhere could sing along to, except as soon as Teacher heard the lyrics, they'd be sent straight to the school's counselor.
