I'm definitely going
but so far I'm on my own. Some of my friends are going for Primavera but I maintain that Sonar will be more fun. Although I haven't actually been.

I know its on in June silly. I missed it last year but I went to great Output Recs party on a roof of a hotel the year before, well worth keeping an eye out for.

If so the Kid Koala set was sublime. I seem to remember Close To You by The Cure in there and a freakin sweet version of Moon River too.

I've always looked at the lineups for Sonar and been so impressed and really want to go so:
what kind of cash does it involce (tickets+travel+spend)?
how easy are tickets to get? or are they for various venues?
would you recommend getting accom + tix or do both separate?
so keen for a festival in a city in the sun, no way i'm doing Glastonbury this year.
okay. The most important thing is getting a flight early enough
if skint, so that you don't pay ridiculous summertime fares to Spain. We paid about £106 return with Iberia (which is affiliated with BA ie a proper airline - no charter shit where you sit in an airport for 30 hours because your flight is delayed kind of crap).
Secondly, depends what you want. You can get day tickets but I'd suggest getting the full three day and night pass. During the day there is a plethora of activity surrounding multimedia and music (I really plan on going to those quite intensely this year.. on the Thurs and Fri anyway)...
You can always get pretty cheap accom in Barcelona. Depends on budget again.. you can do anything from hostel to hotel.
Tickets for the actual festival are not on sale as yet but should be in about four weeks time. I think they are about 150 euros, maybe a bit more, for the full pass.. don't quote me as yet. Tix are easy to get but I'd get them before you go.
Book flights first if cash is an issue!

website says that Mike Banks and Jeff Mills are playing too, but I dont see their names mentioned anywhere on the Sonar site...I think that would swing it for me..

I've seen both Frankie Knuckles and Jeff Mills play (the latter a couple times) before.. Frankie in a six hour set waaaaaaaaaay back in the day down at Brixton (probably about 2001 - gosh, memories). His face lights up the entire dj deck, what, with those massive white teeth and grin.
I am so excited by this festival because I missed out on LOADS of stuff last summer. BRING IT ON.

that HEARTBREAK who I stalk regularly in nightclubs are going to be playing out there... (they are friends of mine too, so that entourage is going to be out there)... and ONLY JUST NOW another friend of mine will be heading there too - - - - - - I hope I come back alive... It's going to be one helluva week out there.

Holy jamban, man, I managed to make it back in one piece.
Despite a near death experience with a bus (my shoulders were nudged as was the back of my head, several times by the side of a bus), I'm back alive, Number 5.
Just got in from Heathrow... the weather in Barca is overcast, and yuk... we got the best of it.
I'm on Spanish time too Beepz... so getting back to reality will be a tad hard, after not getting to bed before 8 am most mornings. Ouchos.
Next year, it's all about Exit, tho... in Serbia.

you hang around in Barcelona centre on Monday night for Sant Joan? I've never seen (or heard) anything like it before. Crazy scenes. Parents were giving their kids fireworks to light in the middle of the street.
Yes - it was quite unerving at times.
We had dinner at our friends pizzeria and stayed back late after everything had shut.... kids were on the street and at one point, threw a firecracker near the roller door to the restaurant..!
We then headed down to that crazy beach rave and checked that out - I didn't stay for too long as was quite exhausted by then but it was interesting to people watch for awhile.
I always find the whole fireworks thing odd anyway as they are highly illegal in Australia (where I grew up) and have been banned since something like 1976 anyway... so seeing kids JUMP over works buried in the sand was quite creepy from my perspective.
The fireworks on the beach were not bad..

Well, I arrived back from this today and my body clock is completely smashed beyond recognition after seeing the sun come up everyday. Incredible festival though, so many good moments.
Will have to have a think later on my favourite bits, Sonar by Night is just mindblowing - the stages, the sound, the music; it's pretty much perfect. I wandered into Sonar Pub with my mouth agape.
If anyone finds any live set MP3s please post up some links! I know that they were floating around last year.
