It may only be a couple of weeks since E4's George Lamb (pictured) replaced the universally popular Gideon Coe on BBC6Music's daytime show but already, it seems, the knives are out for him good and proper.
Already a major topic of conversation on these here forum boards, a web petition has now been set up by several 'leading lights of the independent music scene' who wish to remain unnamed calling for his immediate removal.
In their manifesto, which along with the petition itself can be found (and signed) here they accuse the BBC of allowing 6Music to "slip to lowest common denominator 'celeb-chat" while denouncing Lamb for his "disgraceful treatment of guests" and favouring of playing artists who "reside among his Top five internet friends".
Neither Lamb or the BBC has issued any comment so far despite the criticism that appears to be growing from all angles.
DiScuss: What do you think of BBC6Music in general? Is George Lamb really that bad or is his playlist a sign of the times (yesterday's playlist can be viewed here)? And finally, who would you like to see present 6Music's daytime show?

I heard the Butthole Surfers on 6Music last night
That's got to alright surely?
*be
Hooray!
um
"'leading lights of the independent music scene' who wish to remain unnamed"
um, but you can see you put it up on the thread you linked to. no? :-|
(it's also easy to find out who registered the domain name)
I'm sure it is
but I would have expected its creators to have used pseudonyms. Know what I mean Ms Nunn?
no
umm
a pseudowhat?
shush, robin
if that IS your real name.
I like 6Music
its pretty good. nice mix of shit.
lamb has a very boring voice.
Signed
God i hate Lamb.
The idiot not the cute, cuddly and very tasty sheep.
I love 6music.
I don't like George Lamb and I miss Gideon Coe in the day. Nemone gets annoying but Steve Lamacq is great, Mark Riley is great, Tom Robinson is great and Stuart Mconie's Freak Zone is Amazing.
So overall I think 6music stands up as the best music radio station in England.
I will be signing that petition though.
playlist fine
lamb crap
Is there one for Keaveny as well?
cock
um we met him he interviewed us he was a cock. i dont want to get into a debate about what songs should or shouldnt be on the radio but in no way whatsoever is he like, a music lover, hes a 3rd rate t4 clone presenter. said it and walking away.
...
Can you hear Meshuggah on 6Music? Then givesafuck.
i almost feel sorry for him
everyone hates him. that must be crap. but he has to go. i signed it. 6music on the whole is by far the best radio station i know of
no wonder 6music is going to the dogs...
this is the woman in charge...

if anyone wants to email her and complain about the show her address is lesley.douglas@bbc.co.uk
Ummmm,
I find Lamb quite funny, particularly the coinage of the word 'wafty'!?
Hehehe...
"Radio 2 is the Daily Mail of the airwaves"
replacement
adam and joe. hilarious!!
Nowt wrong with 6music
6music is the best radio station around. The playlist is great too.
George Lamb isn't the best or even great.
The playlist is generally good
although I wish they'd stop playing that godawful Reverend & The Makers song!
RADIO 2
I have 6music on all day in my workshop, but when i pop next door, they have R2 on and everytime better stuff is being played, even heard Pete And The Pirates on there. 6 seems to be going 80's mainstream stuff. at home it's woxy.com everytime, even has Artrocker radio on now :-)
The playlist is fine but
George Lamb is the worst Dj i have heard in 30 years,he has no music knowledge, does no reseach,is immensly irritating,is desperate to be a celebrity(like a male Jade Goody). How the fuck can gid be replaced by that tool!!!!.I won't listen again til he's gone
Can we sort out John Holmes as well?
Also: you can get someone sacked if there is a 'breach of conduct'. Allegedly.
DiS members
not liking someone shouldn't really be construed as the general populace.
They're playing God Only Knows right now. As long as they keep this up, he can stay.
Used to be better
Bring back Jupitus followed by Gideon Coe - golden age indeed.
most of the station's good
although it's gone from being 30-something indie enthusiasts playing the Fall all day to crappo radio 1 mugs playing reverend and the makers 20 times a day.
Lamb and his gang of "hurr hurr, you didnt have a megadrive cos you lived on an estate, hurr hurr" cronies are terrible. And Nemone belongs on Kiss fm, but at least she seems togenuinely like music.
What was wrong with being the niche station it was a year ago? It's digital radio It doesnt need to compete with the mainstream.
to be fair...
that tracklisting looks exactly the same as every other show on 6music anyway... well, apart from the funk one and the maconie freak one.
i don't think the main issue is with the playlist...
it's the fact that george lamb talks between the songs.
the content of his links is beyond words, a 12 year old would find it funny but they are at school. to see how backwards it is have a read of his 'lingo' page.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/georgelamb/lambys_lingo.shtml
I only listened to 6music for the first time today (yay for digital radio)
but George Lamb was so annoying, he kept saying things like "this is what Lamb's bringing to the party"...Nemone on the other hand was pretty damned good, nice to see her being able to talk about what she likes, not what the Radio 1 playlist dictated that she played.
Lingo
Just sums him up! He is pretentious, talentless and has absolutely no interest in music! I switch off before he has his Good Morning Vietnam shouting complete! Or whatever he says!
George Lamb
If I wanted to hear this sort of cheeky chappie mockney crap I'd find some old tapes of Danny Baker and bore myself deaf with those. At least he didn't have the delivery of a fruit seller with that irritating constant laugh that he does after everything he says, just to let us all know just how side splittingly funny he is!
What the hell were 6 Music thinking of putting this guy on a station where they claim the music is the most important thing? All we hear all morning is yak yak yak...oooh here's an email from someone saying 'love the show' yak yak..Shabba! Yak yak, ding ding, cor strike a light guvnor up the apples and pears...yak yak... oh hang on here's some music from some band I've been told to play..stay tuned to hear some more of my yak yak yak about me and how clever and witty all my mockney mates think I am..Shabba!
Radio 6 doesn't need a disposable morning show, this isn't the 70's! This sort of smart ass featurette radio went out with Noel Edmunds and belongs to radio 2 where Steve Wright still does a much better job of it and doesn't feel the need to read out self congratulatory emails every five minutes or make sick comments to try to show just how 'edgy' he is!
Why would the BBC want to turn every station they have into another proto radio 1? If this is their remit we could have 30 of these stations by the time they get all their digital output sorted. Could we please at least have just one station where the listeners are treated like thinking adults and not brought down to the purile humour that Mr Lamb seems to think we all want SOOO much of?

Hi,
I'm s1acko/s1acky
I'm still here and I'm still complaining. It's just that the BBC 6 Music Feedback forum just instantly delete my accounts each time I post despite the fact that none of my posts broke any rules.
I guess they don't like negative feedback any more about George Lamb. Only positive posts seem to stay up. All the others get locked and members kept quiet by being banned.
Just let the folks know what they are up to. Any dissenting voice and you get banned.
Keep up the drive. I'd like to contribute more, but they just keep blocking me.
But I'll keep making noizes to get this TIT off the radio.

Liking the militancy. Maybe you could organise a coup? Bar assassination, I think that could be the only way to stop this hateful man.
Thumbs up!
I so totally agree with you :D
Love 6 music... Hate George Lamb
We have 6 music on all day at work... except between 10am and 1pm, as all 4 of us find him too annoying for words!!!
His sense of humour is lame and pathetic, his Shabba's were only funny for about 5 seconds, and he's got the most annoying voice EVER.
I've signed the petition, and can't wait til he's booted off. Such a pretentious idiot too!! And why does he need two co-presenters?
All other presenters are either good or great, so surely someone else can be found to replace him??
Lamb Must Stay
We're a small, Liverpool based graphic design studio and we depend on the George Lamb show for all kinds of ting between 10am and 1pm. For a kick off our resident Lamb-loving P.A. Poppy would simply wither and die if she had to go back to listening to Ken Bruce all morning.
Besides, where else are we going to hear such charming cockerney phrases as 'beshmuffle' and 'wafty' this side of the Watford Gap?
Keavney's a ponce, Lamacq's tiresome and we turn over to the birdsong channel at 1pm to avoid the whining mr punch lookalike who follows the news.
Why so harsh?
The way I see it, for most modern graphic designers, web developers and other people who skateboard to work, the radio station you listen to is very much a lifestyle choice.
And within that lifestyle choice there are further, smaller choices that have to be made, such as 'do i want to be the sort of person who listens to Mockney Post Graduates while I'm supposed to be designing flyers for the local sunbed shop and panini menus for the deli next door?" The answer is predominantly 'yes'.
I'm in the media myself, so I like this kind of back slapping, all boys together kind of show. My favourite is Steve Wright in the afternoon on Radio One. I also enjoy the Saturday Kitchen format on TV, which is similar to the George Lamb show in my view.
I say get off his back. he's a nice looking lad, though I'm not gay I hasten to add, who has bagged himself a good job in broadcasting and we should all be proud of anyone who can do that.
I'm Neil Gibb. You can catch my show 'the Lifestyle Hour' on Perfect Home Shopping at 1am on Sunday mornings.
Keep George Lamb on 6!
I've been listening to George Lamb since he was in the 10pm slot. I don't think that I fall into any of the typical categories of people that everyone on here seems to think listens to his show. I too am I 'thinking adult' and I also like many of the other shows (though can't take 5 mins of Nemone's wafty drivel). Obviously with his very distinct style he was never going to be loved by everyone one especially when replacing the much-loved Gideon Coe. But I really enjoy the humour of the show, AND I'M A GIRL! Their show is being taken far too seriously! The interaction between the show and the listeners is fantastic and unlike that on most other shows.
I've never posted on a forum before which shows how ridiculous and over the top I think this backlash is!
Do what you ile with him but get him off 6
Won't criticise you for liking what you like, but he's in the wrong place. Although you like his "style", his "humour", his "intercation", I notice you don't mention the music he plays. Probably beacuse he plays so little, and what there is drowned under a welter of sound effects and "Shabbas"
6 music is the station the BBC provides for people who are passionate about music, instead of just wallpaper in the background. Putting him on 6 is as ridiculous as putting him on radio 3 would be. And since no other station is trying to reach this audience, there's nowhere else for me to go. That's why i want him off 6.
Oh, and because he is a prize cunt flap, to boot.
Stop crying your heart out!
Personally he (Lamb) leaves me emotionally unaffected, it's just breakfast radio for the late risers (I'm assuming the BBC are aiming it at students) and surely you must have realised by now that radio is never going to suit you exactly? I hate Oasis (any others on 6music's playlist) but people seemingly love that pub band so I will end up hearing them regardless. The thing I hate most about 6music is the slogan 'Closer to the music that matters' which seems to say only 'alternative' music is of any importance!!! pretentious twaddle, what have they got? a points system? What exactly makes New Order matter more than Shania Twain? It's just a soundbite preaching to the converted and hoping to affirm some Muso's superiority complex. Or am I being just a little to precious about it?
You're not being precious
- you're just missing my point entirely.
