I only just discovered this. So Johnny Borrell, the 'best songwriter of his generation', didn't write his band's most successful song. This fact has actually made my day :D

he refused to allow
it on the album unless it was co-credited to him. thats why the album was delayed in coming out.
It wasn't delayed as such, was it?
If I remember correctly (and there's no reason why I should endeavour to remember things about Razorlight correctly, but still) it didn't have a confirmed title or tracklist until a couple of weeks before it was released. The rest is true, though, and I think Borrell openly credits whatever his name is with it.
no it was delayed a bit
Borrell said it was
“due to wanting to make the lyrics better”
wasnt razorlites drummer in stoney sleep?
or something?
That was the old drummer
Christian Smith-Pancorvo. The current one is Andy Burrows.
ahhh i see
im not up on me razorlite knowledge hehe
I just realized something
Back in an interview for Planet Sound, just prior to the second album coming out, Borell stated that the album may only have 9 songs on it "like a proper pop album" (I'm sure he said words to that effect). So had he not got his name co-credited on 'America' he would have left it off the album completely I'm assuming. What a big fudging twunt he is.
...
That's not common knowledge. It's hearsay.
It's common knowledge that Razorlight are Shitcore.
Hearsay?
Well wikipedia credits Andy Burrows as the sole writer. Not the most reliable source but hey.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_%28Razorlight_song%29
I thought it was common knowledge
And that bummer boy Borrell was not best pleased with its success.
Either way, they're all weasel boys of the highest order.
...
That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
ooooooohh
the jealousy, you sound like fucking women
^Most bizarre argument ever
'cos either
a) it means that people in this thread sound like they are female. Which isn't really an insult
b) people in this thread (Stealthy, in fact it appear) make a sound that is the same sound as someone makes when fucking a woman, which is just a bizarre thing to say.
...
Sod all that - I want to know what I'm jealous about.
I want to know what your post was about, Stealthy
How did Billy3000's post make no sense whatsoever?
...
What makes no sense is that someone would assume one single sells more than another purely because one member of the band writes better lyrics than he does. And I doubt that even if this were the case, he'd be disgruntled enough to voice his displeasure out loud.
No matter how much of a bell end he is.
It's a terrible song though
especially "What a drag it is, the state I'm in, I go out somewhere and I come home again", which may be the worst lyric ever written.
I respect Borrell far more for not writing it, to be honest.
Andy is far too nice to be in that band
he's a very polite and funny chap.
its painful to read those lyrics.
you can see the cogs whirring... like, 'uhhhhh this rhymes with that... uhhhhhhhhh yeah!!!'
I've just read the lyrics to this
so many words, how is it that when placed next to each other they manage to communicate absolutely bugger all?
You say that like it's a new thing
Never heard Oasis?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball...
Yes I have.
I'm a razorlight.............
fan. However, I didn't know the drummer wrote "America"
Well I do now. lol

song played on BRMB. new song uploaded."Beautiful London" www.myspace.com/casinomusicuk
I've heard them interviewed since this
and the drummer denies this is true and insists it's a co-write.
I'm not a fan (well, the first album was OK) but thought I should add that in.
...
I did some research. Apparently this guy wrote America: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4tDP-yMwXI
:D
that's amazing.
Who gives
a rats arse, they're still shit. Has anyone ever thought of calling them Razorshite?
it is definitely true
but Andy is not allowed to publicly admit it. He wrote the whole song, but Jonny refused to record the vocals unless he got a co-write credit. this was extremely wankerish because it means that he not only gets public acknowledgement for co- writing their first no. 1, he also gets a cut of the royalties. it's pretty sad really, that because of all the media attention that his diva-esq behaviour attracts, the rest of the band (who are lovely) have to put up with him treating them like dirt.
Somewhere Else
I met a girl
She asked me her name
I told her exactly what it was
