Here's more news about Canada, 'cause we all love Canada. Montreal's STARS will technically release In Our Bedroom After The War on October 1 via City Slang/Co-Op.

But instead of waiting 'til then to allow people to buy it, or suffer from illegal downloads, the group opted to release it digitally last week, and has since become the first ever band in Canada to go to Number 1 on downloads alone.

Here's their take on the whole situation: "Traditional music business practice says we are to begin sending out copies of this album now. We give advance copies to print publications in hopes of securing features. We meet with radio stations in the hope of securing airplay etc. Inevitably someone will leak the album into the internet.

"It's our hope that given a clear, legal alternative to downloading music for free, you will choose to support the creators."

Go download the album on iTunes or get the skinny on their MySpace.

yeah.

yeah?

...

nah

no way near as good as Set Yourself on Fire

i agree

it is boring.

yeah.

Stars rule

the end

Seems like a bit of a crap idea to me

Meaning fans may end up paying twice, once for download once for cd. I've no idea who these lot are but I hope it doesn't catch on. Anyway it's their own/the labels stupid fault for having leaving the release date so far in the future (this is one of my own personal bugbears), why do so many bands do so, does it take that long to make a cd and print the artwork?

because

they have to wait for magazine to review it and for radios to give it some airplays...
CDs are usually ready much before the actual release.

best way around this

would be to offer a free cd copy (sent when the cd comes out) if you download the digital version...would it not?

It's alright

A couple of really shit songs that sound like Morcheba though.

shudder

.

That reply makes me smile

for no reason I can explain.

I love this band

Good for them!

when there's nothing left to burn...

download this, eh.

Well...

MC Lars did this with his album last year, released it for download a week earlier than in stores.

Good idea for smaller artists where not all stores will carry their releases.

Yes, but aren't most releases

up on I-Tunes etc. a week before they're in the stores?

I remember reading a reason behind it, but can't really remember what it is.

i

love it
has some really great songs on it
