I have loved:

!!! - Myth Takes
Bjork - Volta (even three listens in, this is special)
Blonde Redhead - 23
Battles - Mirrored
El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Do Make Say Think - You, You're A History In Rust

I think the end-of-year list is gonna be full by June... you?

I haven't heard the Bjork one yet

But I assume it'll be there on my list once I do.

Agree about Battles, Panda Bear is up there and I still have a fondness for Patrick Wolf's album.

...

The Cooper Temple Clause - Make This Your Own
Goldrush - The Heart Is The Place
The Hours - Narcissus Road
The Bees - Octopus
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81
Kubichek! - Not Enough Night
Fields - Everything Last Winter
The Little Ones - Sing Song
Kings Of Leon - Because Of The Times
Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future
Radicalfashion - Odori
The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

none of this

will make my list...

Nothing

to trouble the scorers with there.

I don't think I've heard a single album from this year yet

apart from Klaxons. So, that. By default. Meh.

albums of the year so far?

lcd soundsystem - sound of silver
!!! - myth takes
low - drums and guns
el-p - I'll Sleep When You're Dead
teenage bad girl - cocotte

and very good ones:

electrelane - no shouts no calls
Blonde Redhead - 23

and ones i will love no doubt if they arrive:

bjork, vitalic, juan maclean, emma from delgados, justice, the national, malcolm middleton and future of the left

malcolm middleton?

album was out last month, or maybe earlier.

very very good.

blame me for DiS not reviewing it :(

Stuff I've liked so far =

Panda Bear
YACHT
BARR
Skeletons and Kings of All Cities
Gui Boratto
The Field
Wooden Wand

Maybe some other things? DUNNO.

I'm also partial to

Pop Levi's record for some reason

my top 3

El-P - I'll Sleep When Your Dead
!!! - Myth Takes
Grinderman - Grinderman

in that order. maybe..

if i had to stretch to five i'd say the Klaxons and CYHSY albums, but since i've only heard 5 albums from this year their inclusion is inevitable (good albums like, but not top-something-of-the-something worthy)

really feeling

The Noisettes - What's The Time Mr Wolf
The Maccabees - Colour It In
Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future

Just got Bjork and Arctics new LPs which on initial hearing are both sounding ace. wiil need to listen a few more times before i nail my colours to there masts....

These 4

Myth Takes-!!!
A Weekend In The City- Bloc Party
There's No 666 In Outer Space- Hella
I'll Sleep When You're Dead- El-P

I reckon the new Nine Inch Nails one could easily squeeze its way in there when it's released. It sounds FILTHY.

Oh and I haven't heard all of Battles

But that sounds very good.

mmm...

ill need to pick up that el-p one - is he still doing the slightly bizarre jazz nonsense or is he back to his good old dirty lofi hiphop shenaniganses.

my fav of the year so far has to be
michael middleton - a brighter beat
really reminds me of one of my mates growing up insightful cutting drunken ramblings right down to the accent

Of Montreal

Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?

Album of the year so far.

^ good shout ^

forgot that.

mine

Arcade Fire
Arctic Monkeys (yep...)
Blonde Redhead
Butcher Boy
Maccabees
Shins

It's a good year

my favourites are:

a wasp in a jar - tiger force
no shouts no calls - electrelane
scribble mural comic journal - a sunny day in glasgow
summary - BARR
i believe in you. your magic is real - Y.A.C.H.T.

i think

...

Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity
yourcodenameis:milo - They Came From The Sun
Marnie Stern - In advance of the broken arm
The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future

are the best ones so far.

Mine:

Gui Boratto - Chromophobia
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime
Deerhunter - Cryptograms
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Klaxons - Myths...
Menomena - Friend and Foe

Possibly in that order (Gui Boratto first)

only four 2007 albums so far, i think

I really need to improve my new/not-new album ratio.

The Hold Steady - Boys And Girls In America - I'll be very surprised if this isn't in the top 3 at the end of the year. 9.5

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away - a lovely album, good mix of classic Shins sound and new ideas. 8.5

Frank Turner - Sleep Is For The Week - impressive effort, he's a better songwriter than most give him credit for. 8

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible - has it's moments of greatness, but really a bit overblown and lacking in killer tunes. I need to listen to it more though. 6.5

mine

will include the shins; it was such a long wait and it didn't disappoint. and wilco's sounds pretty great so that too, when it comes out.

plus some others..

mine

Ben Frost - Theory of Machines
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Grinderman
Amon Tobin - Foley Room
Alex Delivery - Star Destroyer

A lot of good albums so far, not many truly great ones

.

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna...
LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Frank Turner - Sleep Is For The Week
Malcolm Middleton - A Brighter Beat
Wild Billy Childish And The Musicians Of The British Empire - Punk Rock At The British Legion Hall
Grinderman - Grinderman

er

BIG BUSINESS - Here come the waterworks
Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity
Boredoms - Super Roots 9 (well so far so good anyway after a few listens)
Flower-Corsano Duo - The Radiant Mirror
Trans Am - Sex Change

yes to flower corsano duo

i dunno what mine are, i don't keep track of whether i'm buying new or old stuff.

Tsurabami is my favourite i've bought

:D

Glad you like it! Tsurubami are immense. It must be so much fun playing in a band like that.

I forgot about the Dälek album. I haven't listened to that one enough. It has the potential to become my favourite album by them I think.

i just love how it turns

from a fairly brutal textural noise record into my bloody valentine.

it's aces.

i couldn't get into the new dalek one really. i should give it more time too.

erm

Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times
The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures
LCD Soundystem - Sound Of Silver
Wires On Fire - Wires On Fire

only got one from this year so far

Grabba Grabba Tape - Kurt Koboya

I even think that was released in 2006

mine

are:

Modest Mouse
The National
Nine Inch Nails
Thee More Shallows
Kings of Leon
LCD Soundsystem
Aereogramme

and the Malcolm Middleton album's been the biggest disappointment, I just can't get into it.

above all others

of montreal and the shins. i still need to hear the Battles album in full but I'm guessing it will be up there.

the shins?

seriously?

hmmmm...

I thought it was well naff

compared to their others. See also Kings of Leon.

yeah

although patchier than the other two, the shins are still one of my favourite bands and i've played the album to death :)

most disappointing album so far is the new arcade fire one. just can't get into it.

Right..

Besnard Lakes
Air Formation
120days
LCD Sounsytem
Blonde Redhead
BRMC

not that much really.

I'd probably say 'Amongst the Flock' by Palehorse (US) as my hardcore record of the year, but I haven't heard New Erections yet....

fuck, I forgot that

it's not really album of the year material though. Unless you like being punched in the face continuously for half an hour. Not that it's bad, just its the same thing they did last time, but longer and with bells on.

I think you're wrong

it's very different to even the last EP, let alone the earliest stuff, it's more like an amalgamation of the interesting and best parts of their career, a refinement of what makes the Locust so damn good, and they should be praised for that if anything.

"the same thing they did last time" yeah sure, upon one not very interested listen you might say this, but I think with music as difficult to listen to as the Locust it forces you to listen more carefully and you'll see that it is not the same thing they did last time at all.

Mine

Arcade Fire: Neon Bible
Au Revoir Simone: The Bird of Music
The Besnard Lakes: Are the Dark Horse
The Hold Steady: boys and Girls of America
LCD Soundsystem: The Sound of Silver
!!!: Myth Takes
Grinderman

Don't think it's been mentioned yet

Idlewild - Make Another World

Good solid album, loads of great songs

Funny

My ears only work in the present not the future. Therefore, I am unable to hear or to listen to albums that are not yet available for purchase.

Battles

Findlay Brown
Loren Dent
Open Mouth
Panda Bear
Arcade Fire
MV/EE

I've been a bit underwhelmed so far

Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position (if only for Overture)
Explosion in the Sky - All of a Sudden...
Battles - Mirrored
Cephalic Carnage - Xenosapien (leaked today, brutal as chuff!)
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead...
Great Lake Swimmers - Ongiara
Poison The Well - Versions

the ones that stand out so far

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
DMST - You, You're A History In Rust
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

I realise the first two are 2006 releases really (though both will be in 2007 lists in the UK music press I think), but what the hell...

....

Andrew Bird
Nina Nastasia + Jim White
One More Grain
The Good, The Bad and The Queen
Gruff Rhys

These:

Big Business - Here Come The Waterworks
Frank Turner - Sleep Is For The Week
Clouds - Legendary Demo
The Fucking Champs - VI
Battles - Mirrored

Not heard a lot but...

The Besnard Lakes are rather ace, especially when the drummer goes mental in 'Devastation'

Of Montreal's really good, I'd never heard any of his stuff before and took an emusic punt - really glad I did. Probably my favourite album of 2007 so far.

Neon Bible I really liked at first, now I'm ambivalent.

Charlie Louvin - s/t - What can I say, I love the country.

Biggest letdown? Patrick Wolf - one or two good tracks (Bluebells, Stars) with a lot of utter fanny batter.

so far...

Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future
Polysics - Karate House

nothing else has really cut it yet

so far

Times New Viking - Present The Paisley Reich (lo-fi pop scuzz, heavy NZ influences)
Pink Reason - Cleaning The Mirror (thoroughly depressing one-man-band blues murk)
Blues Control - Puff (Early Royal Trux without the heroin dissonance, just stoned blues drones and deconstruction)
Wooden Wand - James And The Quiet (Dylanish psychedelic folk, great production, vivid lyricism, great songs)
RTX - Western Xterminator (brilliantly produced 80s cock rock)

they're the real standouts for me. my year so far has almost solely been influenced by Siltbreeze Records getting back in business and doing what they always did, put out quality.

So, so many albums

EITS
Boris
Do Make Say Think
Deerhunter
Jesu
The Shins
Dalek
Grails
Of Montreal
The Besnard Lakes
Panda Bear
Deerhoof
Stars Of The Lid
The Field
Low
Modest Mouse
Eluvium

EITS or Grails would likely top the list but those are all albums I absolutely love. Really looking forward to hearing
Battles
Wooden Wand
Dead Meadow
Menomena
Pelican
Gravenhurst
And a whole bunch of other stuff I'm currently unable to recall.

so far...

Arcade Fire- Neon Bible
Panda Bear- Person Pitch
The Shins- Wincing The Night Away
Field Music- Tones Of Town
Andrew Bird- Armchair Apocrypha
and
Battles- Mirrored

big business - here come the waterworks

dalek - abandoned language
marnie stern - in advance of the broken arm
deerhoof - friend oppurtunity
panda bear - person pitch
battles - mirrored

LCD Sounssystem

Kings Of Leon
65Daysofstatic
and i predict that Biffy's will make the list

oh...

forgot about flower-corsano duo - the radiant mirror

I agree

with lost of you about the LCD Soundsystem, also predictably Neon Bible.
I'm really enjoying Version by Mark Ronson at the moment

mine would include:

The Berg San Nipple - Along the Quai
Blonde Redhead - 23
Do Make Say Think - You, You're A History In Rust
Low - Drums & Guns
Amiina - Kurr
!!! - Myth Takes
Efterklang - Under Giant Trees (yes, I know it's a mini album but hey...)

I'm sure Björk will be on there too soon...

Scribble Mural Comic Journal by A Sunny Day in Glasgow

is the only really fantastic record I've picked up this year so far.

Ones that are out that I'm sure I'll love but haven't bought yet:

LCD Soundsystem (I think having pretty much ever DFA record is making this slip down the pile even though I'm sure it's amazing)

Person Pitch by Panda Bear (I can't find it anywhere)

Albums that haven't been released that will surely be near the top of my list:

M.I.A
Bjork
The White Stripes
Napoleon IIIrd

.

5. The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
4. !!! - Myth Takes
3. Battles - Mirrored
2. Grinderman - Grinderman
1. (By a long way) Low - Drums and Guns

I suspect 2 of the top 3 spots are going to be taken by Shellac and Future of the Left before the year's out.

was the new decemberists this year?

if so, then 'the crane wife' by a friggin' mile. that is such an amazing album.

Lost of nice stuff...

...has already been mentioned, these haven't:

Radicalfashion - Odori
Colleen - Les Ondes Silencieus
Hauschka - Room to expand

I think I must've...

...stopped reading when I got so far down your list.

So many

Including dozens that have already been mentioned so far.

I'd probably plump for Of Montreal in first place first, but, unless I've missed it, how come we're all forgetting Field Music?

Ah

It appears somebody has.

Well done that man.

probably

the Noisettes one.

Yep.

the napoleon iiird album

is The Dogs

stars of the lid

and their refinement of the decline.

ill be very surprised if i enjoy an album more than that by the end of this year.

.hank?

napoleon iiird-in debt to
besnard lakes- dark horse
dalek- abandoned language
blonde redhead- 23
panda bear- person pitch

Panda Bear - Person Pitch

and Cocorosie

...

Mine-

Arcade Fire
Arctic Monkeys
Of Montreal
!!!
Lcd Soundsystem
Decemberists (being as we're counting it)

Looking forward to- Battles, Rufus Wainwright, White Stripes, Ryan Adams, Bjork and Beriut if its out this year.

mine

so far

Panda Bear
Cornelius
National
Deerhunter
Blonde Redhead

I really REALLY hated !!!'s

other records, but the number of people who have Myth Takes down as one of their favourites makes me wonder if I should give them another listen.

Are you people sure I'm not going to vomit when I listen to it?

if

you didn't get on with Louden Up Now then you probably won't like myth takes - its like LUN stepped up a coupl of gears

Oh.

Thanks for the honest answer. I don't even know exactly why it is that they annoy me - on paper they sounds great, and I got over my aversion to their preposterous name years ago. But Louden Up Now particularly failed to float my boat.

Maybe, like using LSD for the first time, I'll give it a spin one day in a safe, happy environment surrounded by people who love me.
