An army of alt-rock titans will converge on Co Laois, Ireland at the end of August for the Electric Picnic festival.
The first set of bands were confirmed three days ago; the list headed by the Beastie Boys, The Stooges and Bjork. The organisers haven't wasted any time in announcing the next raft - with Sonic Youth and The Jesus and Mary Chain upping the 'seminal' quota to five.

With this lot and more running across seven stages at Stradbally Hall from August 31st to September 2nd, the ticket price of £150 is arguably justified. If you get bored of listening to bloody music, then there are comedy and film tents too, as well as the presence of that Lost Vagueness thing.
Now all we need are
some English dates for the JAMC.
Bloody hell
that might just be the Uk festival line up of the year.
It might be, if it was in the UK
:P
Can it, spade.
lol
:D
think they want to be mind, those s irish lololol
this was
brilliant last year, hopefully going again.
That is quite a line-up...
Oh my god
my tummy just did a weird flip thingy. Looks like I'm going to Ireland for the first time then :)
woah
beasties, bjork, stooges, sonic youth, JAMC, deerhoof, modest mouse
:O
Its good, buuuut
225 bucks, my ass
looks like Dour or Pukkelpop again, now thats value for money
plus Laois is a kip
The Electric Picnic
is the best festival I've ever been to. It seems to be designed with the fans in mind rather than profit. This year they've made the festival area and campsite bigger while keeping the capicity at 32,500.
I don't think it can stay this good for too much longer so I recommend checking it out sooner rather than later.
with there being 7 stages...
does that mean lots of good acts clash?
well its not really 7
as you've got the comedy and cinema stages/tents
main stage, 3 tents & dance arena. wasn't too bad for clashes in previous years as its spread over 3 days
Marlena Shaw??
Thats great !!!
Honestly
this is fantastic. Go.
I went for my stag do in 2005 and it was immense (but then they had Nick Cave blistering my face with full band and a very enjoyable woosy Arcade Fire).
I've got my ticket - clashes weren't too bad and the stages are quite close together so you can catch pretty much everything you want.
On another point, Laois is one of Ireland's less interesting counties. But the site is beautiful and the atmosphere is peachy. Go now before the rabble arrive.
plus
you'll have the chance to meet me there, thats worth €235 alone.
Nah,
you ain't nothing special, good as it is, there'll be a pile of cunts at it.
some lineup...
but some fee too will be an expensive weekend boat etc included
Sonic Youth day is
on August the 12th, and has 7 bands covering classic sonic youth and it is free
