Worst Bright Eyes moment

'Bowl of Oranges' - reminds me how much I hate Belle and Sebastian (and their fans). I think that song might be the reason I'll always prefer F&M and I'm Wide Awake... to Lifted.

Everything else is great.

  • The fake interview

on Fevers and Mirrors. I think it's utterly embarrassing....but I have a feeling others might disagree....

Also when I first heard the "big mistake" on False Advertising I cringed a little, but to be fair I hardly notice it now.

    • but the radio interview

is a pisstake! it's not even conor playing conor.

      • Well, yeah but

I still think it's awful...I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. :)

Have to sat I didn't realize it wasn't Conor though!

        • it's

someone from the faint, can't remember who though.

    • the opening of fevers and mirrors

irritates me much much more than the interview.

      • i skip it

but i like bowl of oranges, loads

    • I agree

I get the joke, the first couple of times it's ok, but having to hear it (or more likely skip it) each time is annoying.

I read that he had written some sleave notes explaining the imagery etc but decided it was too pretensious and scrapped them. More pretentios than a frabricated radio interview Coner? At least then you could have read them once and ignored them.

      • another example

of how the word 'pretentious' is massively overused.

        • Your right

and I spelt it wrong both times :(
It actually doesn't bother me that much, I just think it gets in the way a bit.

  • :(

I love Belle and Sebastian. Why do you hate me?

    • The opening to 'I'm Wide Awake'

can't remember the song, but the little monologue he does at the beginning is WACK.

      • Some Bright Eyes stuff I like

A lot of it I'm coming to realise is a load of piffle.

    • ^

I think putting down an entire fanbase is a bit of a generalisation don't you?

      • No

look at them with their bloody flowery dresses, hair slides all standing around competing to see who's the biggest B&S fan

  • So liiiittle to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeearghhhhhhhh!

from saturday as usual, shame good song

    • who is it who does the radio interview?

I quite like it, it's quite funny. Sort of gets in the way a bit though between An Attempt To Tip The Scales and A Song To Pass The Time though.

      • well

        according to this interview:

        http://www.kittymagik.com/interviewsViewer.asp?artist=36

KM: I've always wanted to ask you: What is up with that weird radio interview thing near the end of Fevers and Mirrors?

CO: I guess I wanted to be funny and I wanted a break between the second-to-last song and the very last song because it's a way different mood.

KM: Is it a real interview?

CO: No! I wrote the script and then Todd Baechle [singer for The Faint] played me and our friend Matt did the radio voice.

i think conor may be one of the voices shouting abuse quite low in the mix.

        • I think he says

"saddle creek fucking records with their "ethereal" new wave groups and sad sad folk bulshit"

  • Glasto?

    • Probably

he was SO fucked up that night.

      • i was at the front just shaking my head

that was dreadful. i wish so hard that i saw 2 many djs :(:(

    • those

John Peel 'jokes' went down a storm that night. I think it's safe to say that wasn't the lads finest hour.

  • Somerset House

gig was so dull I left before the end

    • really

that gig had such a great atmosphere

      • I thought it was rubbish

myself but horses for courses and all that

        • i think thats the most disappointing gig i've ever been to

there was an atmosphere of disappointment that's for sure.

          • i enjoyed it

despite not really knowing much of Digital Ash. as the setlist was so heavy on it, i guess your enjoyment would be in relation to how much you like that album...

            • brights eyes are the worse band i have ever seen

& ive seen them twice. he's dreadful. doesn't care, played random b-sides & slagged off john peel while on the john peel stage.

        • Especially the end

where he was sick and the guy smashed up his trumpet. That was wicked.

  • true blue. all of it.

    also,

'emily, sing something sweet for me' - painfully embarassingly painful.

  • His birth

    lol

    • Damn you

I was going to post something like that. Or 'his entire career'.

      • I hate the beginning of @ the bottom of everything

All those stupid pauses, sounds like he's haveing an asthma attack.

        • Do you genuinely

think I think I was being funny?! You worry me.

          • no

i just find it all very tedious.

            also: CHUMBLYWUMBLYETCLOLWHATEVER

            • And I find him tedious

Along with the five threads dedicated to him on the first page. I might start five Depeche Mode threads. Or something.

              • cool

then i can go into them and make boring, unimaginative comments about them. sweet!

                • As you do about everything else! Sweet!

        • i was very aware of it not being funny and being very obvious.

          hence the 'lol'.

  • Lover I Don't Have To Love

It's like all the reasons people don't like Bright Eyes compressed into one shit song.
