So I REALLY fucking enjoyed that, though what happened with Part Chimp? Capricorns were somewhat dull...
Anyway, I only own American Don, which is great, but so far as I noticed they played only one track off it.
Was most of the rest of the set the new album or from all over? Basically what new Don Cab stuff should I now be buying?
Cheers

all the new stuff sound s a bit
gak to me.
makes me sad
:(
Hmm
I couldn't honestly noticed much difference in any of it, though there were certainly some standout tracks, so maybe they were the oldies?
I saw
them in Berlin recently, I was disappointed in their latest stuff. The drummer was really pissed off, the audience didn't know how to react.
I was there
and I really didn't enjoy any of it. It's just not for me. After having them recommended to me on numerous occasions I found it over-fussy, over-complex, one-dimensional, idea-lacking, masterbatory and arrogant.
The musicianship was impressive and I can understand why people like it, but it's really not for me - I was actually bored.
But glad you enjoyed it Theo.
Can I also add
melodically-impotent to my list please.
Do you like that kind of stuff normally?
Like, do you like Battles for example? Just wondered why people would be recommending them to you if it's clearly not your sort of thing?
Do you like
Oxes, theo? They're better than Don Cabellero I think.
I've not heard their stuff so I can't say!
:-(
I think Battles are better than Don Cab but there was something quick and simple about last night's gig that I really liked. Battles have some much shit to set up it kind of annoys me.
I guess I like simple stuff for some reason.
You should
check them out. They're kind of in the smae vein as Shellac. I really like Battles, I need to add them to my list of 'music to buy'.
Yo!
I like Oxes, but note hugely. However - I love love love Shellac and it's funny, I can see the similarities, but find Shellac way more engaging than any of the aforementioned bands... I'm struggling to define why this is... is it the vocals? Is it personality? Is it melody? is it "songs"? I think it's probably a ll of the above... interesting isn't it...
It's
probably a combination of all those. The right ingredients.
...
It's because you're a 'tard.

I know what you're saying
I quite like Battles, but not very very much. Saw them at Truck this year and found them really technically impressive, but not emotionally engaging. I'm not sure what genre you'd call these bands, but I think I'm realising it's not for me.
It's strange - I can hear echoes of this kind of stuff in some bands I adore, like Youthmovies, but these bands seem to infect something a bit more human and emotional into it for me.
I totally agree though, that it was kind of a mis-recommendation, you know? I'm not trying to slag the band off - they are clearly really great musicians and it's an absolute taste thing.
I wanted to go to see what it was all about and I'm glad I went. Good to keep an open mind about these things.
Also,
Can I say thanks for not slating me for not enjoying it - I was kind of expecting a drubbing from the Don Can fans!! It's heartening to see that we can express ourselves and not turn it into a slanging match.
Oh yeah sorry
You are a utterly lacking in all taste and decency. Thanks to your MySpace I now know who it is I we need to nail to the cross and burn.
Was that better?
yes!!!
Thanks, I feel like balance has been restored now... heheh.
Well they're all mathrock, I think
so the technical thing is kind of the point.
Personally I can't take Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies. There is too much changing of the songs to the point where it feels like they're just trying too hard or they just don't notice how much better some parts of their tracks are then others.
Don Cab do that a bit too and it gets on my nerves but then they tend to stick in the new 'groove' (sorry, I just can't think of a better word) for a while. I am never good with bands that change a song loads all the itme, to be honest.
This line up aint Don Cab.
I like Capricorns!
Amen to that
And death to Damon Che please. He's too scary to be alive. Although obvs I love American Don etc.
yeah,
nothing scarier than a guy playing a penny whistle in cycling shorts.
..actually, you've got a point.
Don't be so picky!
What are you talking about?
Damon Che scares me more than spiders do!
Not you,
I'm clearly talking to thewy...
What are you talking about?
Erm... OH THEO. Etc.
The 'this line up ain't Don Cab' comment
Oh Josephine...
yeah I see what you're saying
maybe if I'd seen the original (with Ian Williams etc) it wouild have been a different kettle of fish...
where were you?
I quite liked it but was absolutely knackered and found it quite difficult to engage with. The heckles and the banter were a bit random
Capricorns were very samey but that was the best TODD set I've seen
We were front, left.
As is traditional for some reason. Nearish the speaker stack.
I don't really like Todd, to be honest. I've not heard them on record, though. So we didn't get there in time for them.
The heckles were strange. But the guy dealt with them well, I thought.
ah
i was meandering between front and back mid-right, as it were
i thought
it was awesome. apart from people shouting 'play tras, capricorns and the lack of part chimp. (y)
yes
but you're a drummer so you would say that... :p
..
The only one I really recognised was the first one they played, Cold Knees (In April) off Don Caballero 2. So yeah, get that one (my favorite), or What Burns Never Returns.
although
I think Don Caballero 2 is out of print, whereas What Burns Never Returns isn't. You can still get hold of 2 secondhand, of course.
Don Cab 2
is still in print - saw it in HMV the other day
hmm
I just assumed it was OOP because it's not on Amazon.co.uk and Norman Records don't have it either. I've ordered a secondhand copy anyway...
.
Hardly any Touch & Go stuff is out of print
Why did that guy get kicked out.
Was watching from the balcony and saw this person in the front middle with people just staring at him all pissed off like. Then security jumped into the crowd and escorted him away. Seemed harsh.
pulled down
the monitor? i think?
