Sony customers champion Queen over, um, Shakira

queen we are the champions cover Got a Sony Ericsson phone? Like Queen? So it seems...

The mobile manfacturer surveyed some 700,000 people across a whopping 66 countries to find 'the world's favourite song' (according to Sony customers, we assume). The top ten is, well, odd, and looks like this:

1. Queen - 'We Are The Champions'
2. Britney Spears - 'Toxic'
3. Michael Jackson - 'Billie Jean'
4. The Eagles - 'Hotel California'
5. Shakira - 'La Tortura'
6. Nirvana - 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'
7. The Beatles - 'Yesterday'
8. U2 - 'One'
9. John Lennon - 'Imagine'
10. Dire Straits - 'Sultans Of Swing'

Sha-fucking-kira? Dire Straits? Stick that absurd shit in your Top-Something-Records-Of-The-Last-Ten-Minutes Crown, Q Magazine.

Sony Ericsson corporate vice president Dee Dutta said: "'We Are The Champions' is an anthem worldwide both in music and sporting arenas. It conveys the passion music brings to our lives and proves a classic rock song is truly timeless".

Prefer 'Fat Bottomed Girls', m'self.

What's the point of doing a World survey anyway, why would I want a compilation that the Germans had voted on... who did they interview - their staff...
      • Sony customers champion Queen over, um, Shakira

        i don't know how I feel?
      • Sony customers champion Queen over, um, Shakira

I normally hate lists and their utter pointlessness.

But to see a top 10 without Robbie Williams in it for a change fills me with joy.

      • Re: Sony customers champion Queen over, um, Shakira

Probably where it belongs, along with the rest of their back catalogue, in some dingy record shop never to be seen again.
    • Sony customers champion Queen over, um, Shakira

      I quite like dire straits.
I especially like their headbands and facemelting guitar solos.
Its a little known fact that their first album was acually in the genre of ska-deathmetal.
      So there

Finally a list that doesn't include the same 'ol artists, time has changed and so has the music, Shakira deserves to be there, just look how far she's gone through, congrats to her...
    • ...

I'm having a hard time accepting any band counting Freddie Mercury and Brian Thingy as members as "meathead music". it was the 80s. every band had to have massive solos. It was the law.

      • not quite

sorry but thats just plane wrong. not only was We Are The Champions released in the 70's (1977 to be exact) but Freddie Mercury is one of the seminal song writers of the modern age! your a fool my friend and fool!
