David Gilmour, Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant are just three of the stars that have put themselves forward to perform on a tribute single to the late John Peel. A version of the Buzzcocks' 'Ever Fallen In Love' is to be released in the DJ's honour. Also appearing on the new recording will be Buzzcocks man Pete Shelley, Peter Hook, Jeff Beck, The Datsuns, The Futureheads and El Presidente. The bands were hand picked by Peel's son, Tom Ravenscroft.
The Guardian quotes Shelley: "It is very eclectic. That was the magic of John, though. He was somebody who embraced all forms of music over the last 40 years."
Release date is November 21st, which coincides with Peel's induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame. Proceeds from the single will go to Amnesty International.

The Datsuns deserve a break. One of the best live bands out there... their second album wasn't great, mind.-

The Datsuns were good when I saw them at T in the Park a couple of years back, mind you woz blind drunk at the time and their album was poor in comparison.
This is one of my favourite songs and now they're going to bloody ruin it! -

Re: Gilmour, Daltrey, The Datsuns! Stars collaborate on Peel single
ha. theres nothing wrong with the datsuns, second album was a bit patchy but live they still rock damn hard. id always go see them, unlike some of the other trash a certain mag passed off as the next big thing 2 years ago.-
Re: Gilmour, Daltrey, The Datsuns! Stars collaborate on Peel single
Completely agree with you nappy_coin - the Datsuns are one of the best bands I've seen live, and without any of the affectedness that some of their NME-appointed "peers" used to display (you know the names & the faces). Yes, their second album was ropey, but at even this sounded fairly thrilling in a live context. And John Peel was quoted often as saying they were one of his favourite bands of recent times, including them on his Fabric Live compilation - so who's going to argue with the, uh, Peel-meister General.

Seriously, what are Dave Gilmour and Jeff Beck going to bring to a cover of ever fallen in love? It's like, four chords and OOODLES of energy, not fugging fret frugging.
Jeez. -
