desperate band emails

ok, some band i've never heard of sent me this today. anyone else get it?
--

Since we have played hundreds of gigs in the past two years and have thousands of fans all over Britain
we should have loads of hits on our myspace site - but we haven't.

We were not aware that the music industry takes a close look on bands' myspace site before they sign them.
The low number of hits has let us down with some interested labels etc.

Can you please do everything possible to give us a massive amount of hits on our myspace site?

Go here www.myspace.com/[BAND NAME DELETED]

Thanks for your support and see you on one of our next concerts.

Cheers

lame.

  • i'l give them 2 months.

  • i want the band name

    • i just

      got this email too...how sad.

  • silly adie!

you have you remove the brackets and the spaces:
    http://www.myspace.com/BANDNAMEDELETED

    • lul

      it's not them :-P

    • only 1137

      poor guys.

they sound a little like Come but not as dark. or good

  • yeah

sorry about that, i was drunk or something.

hmm, i can't imagine record companies do look at your myspace page, and then tell you that's why you didn't get signed. otherwise i would fashion some kind of html thing to be constantly playing my tunes all day to bump up my plays. then i would go to sony and say "yeah, look at me now, sign me 151 plays, booyah, etc"

  • You've got to be impressed by that level of ingenuity, surely?

I mean what a way to get hits. If they weren't in bands they'd be wandering around the streets saying something like:

"I've locked my keys in my car and I have to get back to Deptford. If you could just lend me five quid then I'll leave this really expensive phone with you as proof that I'll be back with your cash when I've got my spare keys...What do you mean you don't believe my sob story? FUCK YOU YOU FUCK. FUCKER. FUCK!"

    • yeah but little does he know

i still have his very expensive phone -it's made of a lightweight alloy and designed by on of those fancy designer types. Someone said it was a pink plastic barbie phone, but they don't understand - the reception is terrible though.

  • Shirley

If they had thousands of hits but few friends then that would imply that people had listened to them and thought they were shit.

    • "The low number of hits has let us down with some interested labels etc."

Of course. Because MySpace is always deal-clincher.

"I LOVE this band! They packed out the Metro last night, the kids were loving it, NME writers are lining up to munch on the singer's skiddy pants and their song's all over Zane Lowe like scabies! We're gonna make a MILLION BUCKS! But wait... they've had HOW MANY MySpace hits? Those frickin' losers, why I oughta..."

      • exactly !

It's now a known fact that the quality of a band is only judged by his number of Myspace friends.

    • or that the friends they do have keep coming back to listen?

      myspace is a deceptive creature...

      • No

It is one profile view per account. The numebr of profile views is the number of different people who have looked at the page.

        • i'm not sure that's right...

i may of course be wrong, but i always thought it was the number of times your page had been accessed, irrespective of whether it was the same visitor re-visiting numerous times in one day? for example, i know that when i'm having a comment conversation with a friend, my page count goes up by one every time they post a new comment, because they have to access my page each time to do so...

if, however, it's simply +1 for each person who has ever viewed your page then i'm doing REALLY badly on the friend-making front! maybe i'm just in denial...

        • that is

          incorrect.

          • me?

            dammit.

            • no

              JD.

              • ah!

                phew.

                x

                • I disagree

Much as I admire the intelligence of both Adie and Kat, I still feel that you are wrong on this.

My profile count has been about ten times the number of friends. The ratio has increased more recently as I have added fewer new friends. I assume each friend has looked at the profile, many of them several times, there are all the friend requests that I have denied, and then there are all those who have joined my mypsace group who may have looked at the profile, plus those who looked at the profile and moved on.

I know that I have looked at some profiles, including Kat's, many, many times as I amsume have most of your fans. If each of these views added to the profile count then you would have many more views, that is, profile counts, than you do.

  • Oh dear oh dear

    That's a bit sad, isn't it?

    • am so so so so so glad I won't ever have to put myself thrugh stiuff like this again

give it up 'fellas', unless your really good. Otherwise chuck it up old man and put your head in the oven.

      • there is nothing sadder than a crap desperate band....

        -=sigh=-

        • Definitely!

I hate those bands who have really fancy websites and stuff but never actually play any gigs.

          • err

            • Oh I didn't mean you!

              Your website is shit.

              • thanks dude!

                • Actually.

I've re-assessed and I think the original myspace look has a certain retro charm.

          • and who do you mean by that?

            what is a "fancy" website?

and why do you worry about how often this band plays gigs?

  • ...

    i got that same email.
    thoroughly depressing.

  • V lame.

Not sure I'm a fan of this myspace malarky because there is all this stuff going on. Mind you I do have 3 myspace accounts (long story).

  • I got this too

I told them I'd visit their flippin myspace if they took me off their flippin mailing list

  • i really hate myspace

same layout for every band, crap html, this pointless 'number of friends and plays' culture that doesnt really mean anything, and no one visits bands actual websites anymore! Everyone is held to ransom to have a myspace though, as that is where a vast number of people go to check out music. It's pretty crap when you think about it.

  • Out of interest...

    ...if anyone knows this.

Do record companies pay any attention to Myspace friends? Surely not 'cos surely everyone knows that lots of bands send out friend requests randomly to get loads of adds so anyone can manipulate the figures?

I've never really sent out Myspace friend requests unless I know someone and think they'll be interested. I think, if you're in a band and you're actively asking people to be your fans, it does make you look kinda desperate...

    • Never

underestimate the stupidity of record companies.

      • desperate bands are even stupider-er...
