Three weeks had gone past. Susan had found herself in a state of utter helplessness. She no longer respected the word 'marriage'. In the morning she would wake up next to her husband, make him his daily breakfast of two eggs and one rasher (would it kill him to try something different just ONCE?) and wave him off to work before closing the door behind him. Behind her husband of 12 years. Behind any state of normality. There he went, off to the city to punch numbers all day whilst she would then spend hour upon hour making wild, unadulterated love to the alsation of her dreams
Occaisonally during the day they would go for walks together along the promenade. She liked that. It was the one time she felt truly free and happy. She chuckled when he brought her back pebbles from the beach, and equally adored the little drops of 'love drops' that he left for her to pick up, and place into a clear plastic bag. This was life. This was how it should be. Not making small talk with some guy you made the mistake of falling for when you were just a kid
6pm would come by all too fast. Colin came home, moaned about his day and thanklessly polish off any meal that she had prepared for him upon his return. He would then put his running shoes on, and take his new "pet" out in the car and for a run around the park. He had the love of a good woman throughout the day and the one-on-one companionship of one man and his dog in the evenings. He had it good. He was spoiled alright...
The evening walks between the two were a continuous heartbreak for Susan. What if he slipped up? What if he mentioned the affair and told Colin all about how he had been played for a fool? Played for a fool in his own home, in his own bed? Susan had to endure three weeks of emotional torture. She decided enough was enough. Colin had to know
She gathered her car keys and set off for the park. A thousand thoughts ran through her head. Would Colin get violent? Would he hit her? But above all, she longed for a time when the two of them could see a future without him
She saw the red Vectra in the car park. She could also see Colin in the drivers seat, hand stroking the head of his new best friend. They were about to leave to head home. She had to do it now. It was now or another three weeks of hell. She took a deep breath, and approached. She tapped the window
"Colin, I can't do this anymore. It's time you knew the tru..."
"Susan! Oh my God!"
She felt her heart hit the floor. Every shed of breath was sucked right from her lungs in an instant
But that wasn't the only thing being sucked...
