          • This game's easy

            • I think we won too.

              Go us!

              • conterversial list

                1. mogwai
                2. pipettes
                3. secondsmile

                • why's that controversial?

                  • 'cos

                    The Pipettes are shit, innit.

                    • As are Mogwai

                      *booooo!*

                      • Mogwai aren't shit

but you'd have a hard time persuading me that Mr Beast deserved to top any end-of-year lists

                    • I'd rather listen

to The Pipettes album than the Mastodon one but it's all opinions.

                      • Really?

But I came here for RESULTS!

                        • Incidentally, is the Ellen Allien album

                          *that* good?

                          I still haven't heard it.

                          • yes, I think so.

                            • although

one track is a bit rubbish.

                              • Which one?

                                • 'Leave me Alone'

It has some dull vocals on it but the track after it, 'Do Not Break', is so good you almost forget about it.

                          • fuck that

my list still wins. you have ears of shit obviously.

                            • ears of shit

is better than no ears at all. You only chose them because you like the front cover.

                              • i like your mum better...

...but seriously, grizzly bears cover is a bit dark and shit, but its the best album of the century. this is a true statement

                                • Well,

my top-3 isn't the three I posted but it wouldn't include Grizzly Bear's album, very good though it is.

I think it has a nice cover.

                                  • really?

i spose it is quite nice. don't get me started on the fant cover though

                      • I

don't mind The Pipettes' singles, but the album just gets a bit TOO kitsch and cute for my liking.

  • well......

    MV/EE w/ the Bummer Road
    Charalambides
The Knife NO WAIT Joanna Newsom NO WAIT Destroyer NO WAIT etc....

    • I refuse to enter this debate

until the last two weeks in December.

  • So far...

    Pink by Boris
    Scale by Herbert
Posssssiblyyy Hello Everything by Squarepusher, but it's early days on that one.

    In my opinion, obviously.

    • my list of teh year so far

      Howling Bells
      The Young Knives
      Guillemots

      Close contenders
      Plan B
      Snow Patrol

  • i hate these threads.

    HATE THEM.

mostly because i can't remember what albums have been put out this year

    • sort your fucking memory out then

      simple innit

      • Sika Redem

Is still ahead of Mastodon for me (oooh, interesting)...not because of any other factors, but because it's so fucking astonishing it makes me want to cry. It's amazing.
I've heard most of Young Machetes- on the stream from their myspace, you understand- and that'll be in my top three as well, probably, it's all I hoped for so far.
That and Mastodon will probably make up my top three. Or Converge, or Isis, but that's coming out probably too late in the year for me to appreciate it (come on, you know Isis).

        • Mmmmm. Isis.

When it comes to putting together a top 30 of the year, Isis will be somewhere near the top. Or where the Is are in the alphabet. I'm very excited for the new album. I dunno about not being able to appreciate it straight off, though; Isis aren't *that* taxing. They're lovely, really!

      • .

TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
Mission of Burma - The Obliterati
        Beirut - Gulag Orkestar

  • Top 3

    1 - Beirut
    2 - Grizzly Bear
    C - Loney Dear

All fantastic releases I hope you'll agree.

    • I'd have to say

      3. Guillemots

  • ...

    1 3
    2 three
    3 III

  • ...

    Gregor Samsa
    Leichtmetall
    Carla Bozulich

    • Christ!

Oh Lord, that Bozulich album made me ache. I bought it at the same time as the new John Zorn/Mike Patton collab, and it made Zorn and Patton sound positively melodic.

      • it's supposed

        to make you ache...

        • Maybe...

but that's not why I listen to music.

          • It's a beautiful dark and painful album.

            Certainly not for everyone !

    • good picks

have you heard lullabye arkestra lyle? on constellation, got it through same time as bozulich

    pretty girls make graves
    germlin

  • right now i'm enjoying

    cursive
    mastodon
    guillemots

  • At the moment

    Guillemots
    TV on the Radio
    Mogwai

Though still weighing up stuff like The Flaming Lips and Yo La Tengi close by. On a random note two great non-regular albums from this year are The Delgados Peel Sessions one and the R.E.M. Best Of for 1982-1987.

And if I can bend the rules to the point of no return I'll mention The Wrens - OK granted it's a 2nd reissue of an album that came out in 2003 I admit but this is the first time I could get hold of it and it was bloody great

  • TV on the Radio

    Mastodon
    Spank Rock

  • .

    1. the mountain goats
    2. xiu xiu
    3. of montreal

  • i chose

    TV on the radio
    Hidden Cameras

  • subject to change

    The Drips
    Spank Rock
    Winnebago Deal

  • wow

yellow house is definitely number one. surprised to not see it on more people's lists actually

    • >>>

      Pippettes
      Nicky Wire
Tapes n' Tapes or was that last year?

    • good taste alrighty

yellow house is indeed top notch

      • it's

it's weird how it seems people in the UK aren't really grabbing onto it

  • .

    volcano!
    beirut
    blood brothers

  • Me. Your Mam. My bed.

    • Seriously though.

Mastodon, Sika Redem, Immune. I don't know in which order...

  • Lots of good albums this year.

It started off pretty slow, though.

    EMM:
    Xiu Xiu
    CFTPA and
I can't decide between Final fantasy, the Knife or CSS :(

    • weeeelll...

just have a top five then. ;)

      • BUT THAT'S THE NAME OF THE THREAD.

        Like, dude.

Emm, I will go with Final Fantasy.

  • I can't actually

think of three albums from this year that I'd feel comfortable putting in a list like this. Ho hum.

    • Bizzarely

      I could do a TOP 100 but not a top 3

      • That makes

        no sense

        • What are you trying to say man?!

          • Mmmmmmmmm...

            brightblack morning light
            joanna newsom-ys
            sonic youth- rather ripped

            • 1. My Latest Novel

              2. Pretty Girls Make Graves
              3. Fionn Regan
              (So far)

              • for me

                Mastodon
                Winnebago Deal
                Cursive

                • Come on

nobody has mentioned the hold steady - clearly the best album this year! followed by:
2.love is all - 9 times the same song
3.the long winters - putting the days to bed

But the long blondes might have something to say about this list once it's out

                  • Actually

Swap the long winters for hot chip!

                    • with that change

i am in total agreement :)

                      • disagree with almost all of you

                        1. Bob Dylan
                        2. Ed Harcourt
                        3. The Divine Comedy

                        • I couldn't do....

                          ...a top 3.

This has been a great year.

In alphabetical order, I would say that my top 3 could possibly contain three of these bands though.....

A Hawk and a hacksaw, Bat for lashes, Beirut, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Colleen, Holy Shit, Joanna Newsom, Lucky Dragons, Man Man, Mates of State, Metallic Falcons, Parenthetical Girls, Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, The Blow, The Essex Green, The Hidden Cameras, Tunng, White Magix, Xiu Xiu.

                          • erm..

                            Guillemots, Isis, Trencher

Closely followed by Get Cape, Wear Cape. Fly, Sikth, Squarepusher, Cursive, Mogwai, Final Fantasy and some others.

                            • probably

                              1. Muse
                              2. Snowden
