Muse's Matt Bellamy: "September 11 is clearly an inside job"
Posted: 13 Oct '06, 18:04
What, exactly, does this have to properly do with all things music? Well, this Matt Bellamy is the very same Matt Bellamy as the Matt Bellamy that sings under the guise of Matt Bellamy in the Matt Bellamy-fronted rock band Muse. But beyond that, nowt. But it is Friday, you know. Not a lot generally happens on Fridays. Apart from Jonathan Ross. I tend to make sure I'm out...
So, anyway: Matt Bellamy - yes, that Matt Bellamy - reckons 9/11 was an "inside job", carried out in order to "have an excuse to invade the Middle East". You probably didn't hear it here first. We didn't - we read CMU.
He said something along the lines of this, here:
"September 11 is clearly an inside job, there's massive evidence that suggests that it was either allowed to happen or even worse, deliberately made to happen. There was a document called Project For The New America Century which was made by neo-Con writers in the '90s who supplied most of the agenda that Bush is putting into place now, which clearly says, 'We need a Pearl Harbor-level of event so we can have an excuse to invade the Middle East'."
Okaaaaaay. I'm going home to think about that. For two whole days. At least ol' dead Hunter S agrees with him, though: seeee? See you Monday.
Matt Bellamy is clearly
a fucking knob. Can't he just play music rather than parade his stupidity? What a dick.
As I've said before
Matt Bellamy = Rock star most likely to end up as David Icke type figure in 20 years
...
I'd stick to the guitar.
Well, I think he's probably right.
Whether or not he has the 'authority' to make such pronunciations from the lowly platform of 'musician' is another matter...but then, musicians are people too. They can think and form opinions as well as you or I.
the...
... Project For A New American Century stuff is available on the US Governments website and makes for frightening reading. Whether he's spot on or not is one thing, but he's certainly not a million mile off.
I wouldn't
have believed that until I saw this documentary (granted- probably designed to make me think it was allowed to happen) but did you see the second tower when it unzipped, the explosions looked detonated, they were fucking EXPLODING, not collapsing. Something fishy, definately.
I agree...
...with the fact that he is a fucking knob, however, can he stop playing music aswell please.
Matt Bellamy
At least he thinks outside the box. He doesnt just stick to music at least he has other passions!!!
HST
was the maaaan, man.
Who's cleverer, Craig Bellamy Or Matt Bellamy?
I vote Craig.
I vote Matt
as even a stuffed iguana could outwit craig Bellamy.
neither
David Bellamy is clearly the man
DETTOL
He used to have it dripping off his beard in adverts, y'know...
oh boy
i'm not the biggest muse fan, but at least he's saying something. over here in america there has been a gag order in effect by clear channel effectively silencing bands from speaking out against, well, anything. so for ANYONE to say ANYTHING is fairly important imo. & to say something like this (that the fuckhead running america committed this shit) is impressive as well. that's not to say that no musicians have spoken out about the growing fascism within america, but censorship is such a prevalent force here & it's a difficult topic to fight (due to corporate media strangle & censorship). so the more the merrier i say.
but to invade the middle east was not necessarily the primary objective. in examining the patriot act & it's immediate application & it's loooooong term consequences one can more clearly see the objective.
& besides, craig can't score goals. & has a stupid fucking tattoo.
if you think
Matt Bellamy is a dick for saying what he siad, then you are a fucking dick. He is not a fucking idiot either and would probably have read well into the subject. This and a lot of other like subjects really interest him.
But for fucks sake, i would rather have Matt Bellamy saying shit like this than Hollywood making fucking movies about it.
So Silentcommand, unlike Matt Bellamy, you have just jumped on the bandwagon and agreed with the whoever wrote this article. Have another think about it all.
So famous people have no opinion...
Bit lame to say he should'nt be entitled to say what he thinks and lets be honest about it,theres some pretty daming evidence against the Bush administration towards 9/11. There are far more unanswered questions which they need to address.
I suggest some of you watch 911 Loose Change 2nd edition....
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=7866929448192753501&q=911+loose+change+2nd+edition
I've thought about it
He's still a dick... And you're sucking it.
I nfacy you
Yup.
klaire and waterwings sitting in a tree
I-S-S-K-I-N-G
I think Matt Bellamy is well within his rights to speak his mind, and it doesn't take an enormous stretch of the imagination to believe this. I don't personally, but when you think about the extent of US involvement, nay, interference in international politics of the last 50 years and the bloody-mindedness of Neo-Con policy... it's improbable but not impossible.
the matt bellamy show
musical genius and fucking sexy. but i think all that time holed up with nobody but the rest of the band for company recording the new album turned his head slightly.
oh
and by slightly i mean a lot.
...
Much as I love Muse and think Bellamy's a genius... he's really not proving it. Stick to the music, fella.
Idiot
just....a stupid fool.
wake up naive narrow minded paople
go watch terrorstorm you ignorant twat, it's nearly 2 hours of facts too support Bellmays theory. It's you people that believe everything the government tells you that just attack bellmay as a person rather than give facts to prove what he's saying about 9/11 not true.
Whether your for or against Bellamy and his argument, does it not worry you that in Bushes 1st 4 year term killed more through iraq, afgan etc than Hitler in his first 6 years and is now re-writing American law to deal with this new terror threat. Also saying he's above the current Amercan law (dictateorship style).
People are unaware of how much government propganders in the media It's just naive to believe that our governments are doing what best for us and wouldn't support terror attacks when it's been proven 100's of times in the last 100 years. How can you belive waht you see through press when bush over the last 2 years has paid journalist 1.6 billion for positive war press.Bush and Blair know people will flock sheep to their anti-terror policies if they live in fear of this shadowy enemy.Blair at 28% in the polls before 7/7 then miraclously wins the election!!??Also if everyone see the muslims as evil people it justifies takeing Iraq a muslim nations oil, finding no weapons of mass destruction.whilst Bush is holding hands with saudi roytalty when 15 of 19 9/11 bombers have been proven to be saudis.Crashing 4 planes in 2hours into the most technologically advanced, well defended nation in the world.making them the first people in history to collapse a stell framed builing due to a fire.I could go on all day but terrorstorm on google is the most interesting and postive argument in bellamys favour.
bello
also pretty much* believes that aliens came down to earth and changed apes to man
*i added this in case i got what he said wrong
he...
has and is entitled to his opinion.
just because he is a well known musician doesn't mean he can't speak out about anything that isn't muse related.
if someone that worked at starbucks was talking about 9/11 you wouldn't turn around say 'shut the fuck up mate, get on with that latte'.
(or would you?)
yes
if he said something so STUPID.
conspiracy theories
are for people to whom facts don't seem exciting enough
he's clearly
being controlled bygeorge bush.
(see the new south park episode)
Incidentally
Matt said something similar to this four or five years ago, (in NME, before Origin (which makes me think it was 01), with the cover of him with blue hair looking a bit manga sid viscious), he basically said it was a conspiracy theory, before explaining that there was an extra planet, who came down and cloned us to be a fraction of themselves (intelligence and size wise?), and that all of this was somehow instigating global unrest a la 9/11. He was quite keen to point out that he'd been reading up on the subject.
At least he's got interests
For the record, IMHO, there is no conspiracy, just a lack of US Federal govt resources devoted to a n issue which hadnt quite forced itself into the public consciousness yet. That doesnt stop the Bushes, Bin Ladens, Saudi Royals and others from being similar people in similar circles
I've never experienced one of my musical heros to piss me off so much
His comments left me fuming, whether he was joking or not.
He only needs to watch the latest south park episode to see what a twat he's being.
Conspiracy
Was in the US for nearly a month. The weird thing is the amount of people with similar views to Matt Bellamy, and the amount of people (spesh young people) who were really down on their own country. I find it impossible to believe that any politician would knowingly stand by and let 3000 people die on their own soil... though the thing that most freaked me out on 9/11 was why the whole buildings collapsed because of explosions and air crashes on the topmost floors.
It perhaps is possible that the security services allowed a terrorist attack to get under the net. In order to keep the IRA believing it had no infiltrators the British security services had to let the occasional attack succeed...because otherwise the IRA would have known for sure that they had moles...and keep their fingers crossed that the particular plot was only a 'small' bomb or whatever.(perverse as that is) We may never know which of the IRA atrocities were the ones 'allowed' to happen... and applying the same logic to middle eastern terrorists...maybe it is conceivable that the neocons wanted to let the terrorists have a success in order to generate enough fear to unite the country behind them..and to start wars deliberately in order to generate lots of reconstruction and military revenue for US companies. If 9/11 was 'allowed' to happen, though, it would have only been because the US players involved were blind to the scale of carnage that was planned.
I think that we're probably closer to the mark believing our leaders to be guilty of colossal mistakes than believing them capable of willful evildoing.
It's still no reason to be down on America. It's still a great country, built on sound principles and populated by a decent bunch of people... I was wondering if Americans being down on their country was some stage on the way from a colonial to post-colonial mindset.
it was worth it
if it furthers the cause of 'patriotism is a load of wank'.
How?
How do you find so hard to believe taht Bush would allow 3000 people to be killed or kill them himself when Stalin killed 20milion to control his people. Allowing him to carry out his radical ideas and policys involving industry and agriculture in regards to making his country richer and more powerful. just cause it is happening today people are unable to grasp it and chose to ignore the reality of what is or could be happening around them just as it is easier to grasp.
tbf
'starlight' hasnt gained much interest.
some responses here are really silly
he is only echoing what a lot of people have been saying for the past few years.
Hmmm
At Reading he wore a T-shirt which had the words "Terror Storm" handwritten on the back. He was later asked what this was all about and his answer was - search for it on Google Video.
Oh well, at least he's not boring.
i like
my rock stars crazy - ergo, this bit of mentalism is good.
Matt Bellamy
He's probably not the most informed person on the planet or the person who knows the most about this subject, so I wouldn't take any words of his as gospel. However, what he said has a SuperMassiveChance of being true.
New Pearl Harbor
What a lot of cynisism from DiS readers! I'm currently reading "The New Pearl Harbor" by David Griffin and I can quite see why Matt holds this view.
Thom Yorke told me
that all the world's banks are really run by aliens.
bless
like someone else said, at least he's interesting.
No he's a retard
I get the impression Bellamy is one of those people who just believes anything they hear. Saying that he's "well read" doesn't mean anything when your main source of info are 16 year old rage against the machine types on internet message boards and X-Files: The Annual. What a fucktard.
my god
what an ignorant post.
thank you panic
jammy just believes what he whats to and thats that
When I saw the headline 'I thought what a twat'...
but out of curiousity I watched the video that the dude above posted. I can now see where he's got his opinion from as the evidence is certainly very strong. I'd recommend people just to have a look. I went with the mentality that it would be some crazy outlandish theory and was ready to pan it, since watching it I feel a lot different. Check it out.
!
If you don't think politician...republicans at least, will sacrifice numbers of people to further their own lust for power/money etc then you'd be wrong. Aren't these the same people who will attack other countries, send people to war, resulting in their deaths and the civilians involved.
It's a shame sometimes people will confuse facts with personal opinions. Like during the Micheal Jackson and Lil Kim cases.
"We believe he/she is innocent. It's a set up!"
"Why"
"...because their music changed my life"
"What an informed and intelegent opinion..."
Also, did you have any choice over what country (or skin pigment for that matter) you where born in/with? I thought not.
i like his threats and thinly veiled aggression towards intelligence
but really he's just another opinionated person against another opinionated person.
if youve watched that video
you really should read this.
thank you djodel
At least some people have an openmind on government related issues
matt bellamy is clearly
a fucking idiot and insensitive to boot.
!
So how is discussing 9/11 insensitive. It's mentioned in the Guardian every other day.
watched the new south park
the other day, and as was said above, the 911 conspiracy is a government conspiracy, according to them.
What they seemed to be saying was that the US government are incapable of forging such an elaborate plan, but pissed off muslims are.
Which I disagree with.
i do think its insensitive to construct
conspiracy theories which clearly have no basis in fact about events which killed thousands of people.
Uh-oh
Someone watched too much Loose Change.
Matt Bellamy
is probably one of the only truly great rock stars in the World today. The fact that we're all on here talking about more than just his hair is testament to that. There's so many good and bad points on this thread I'm going to have to read it all again when I've had another cup of tea, but cheers for all the links, that should keep me occupied for a while.
Next week -
Matt Bellamy: "Judas Was Innocent!"
Loose Change
I've now read about how innacurate that film is, so it seems like a load of bollocks to me.
Project for the American Century
has been around for ages. What he's saying is something many people suspect anyway. I'm not sure if I do, but I appreciate the arguement and can see the thoughts behind it. We are being fed a false agenda to frighten us. Its like Birdflu....utter bollocks. The amount of people who have died in proportion to the sheer volume of population is bollocks
To the bashers
I wouldn't base your political views on Maddox and the South Park creators; comedians who aim to appeal to a mainstream demographic. Another thing, I've never seen Loose Change, and from what Matthew Bellamy states, neither has he. He's basing his views on Alex Jones' work, including the film Terror storm. I was skeptical about his claims at first (Alex Jones), but after actually bothering to read his articles, follow his sources, watch his films etc, I realised there was a lot of credibility to what he had to say. So don't instantly insult dissregard what Matthew Bellamy has to say, in an attack on free thinking, without doing some research.
LOL
Matt and his conspiracy theories. This is typical of him. I'm not surprised.
what an absolute...
..thick cunt. It's just reinforced my opinion that Muse have lost all sense of subtlety and direction in their music. I can't believe Bellamy subscribes to this half-baked cliched conspiracy tosh. I bet he thinks there were no moon landings either. And I thought someone who could write Absolution and Origin might be a grown-up.
Expect more "Starlight" in the future and less "Newborn". I'm going home to chuck my copy of "Black Holes..." and its SHITE early-eighties pink floyd cover in the bin.
This...
"It's just reinforced my opinion that Muse have lost all sense of subtlety and direction in their music."
Has just reinforced my opinion that you don't know what you're talking about.
I don't agree with this theory either, but what the fuck has it got to do with the direction of their music?
fair enough...
...i'm just massively disappointed with Black Holes and looking for any excuse to dis it. Fed up with all the "ooh, it's amazing; their best album ever, blah blah" hyperbole. It's not, it's pop drivel. That Keane rip-off of a tune, Starlight, is on fucking XFM again right now, and I hate it. bring back the rachmaninov.
The Conspiracy Theory is retarded
For the simple reason that The US government regularly gets involved in foreign military adventures without needing any kind of excuse like this.
Clinton threw cruise missiles at Afghan camps and African medicine factories because people were talking about his cigar too much...
this sounds like a case for..
The Hardly Boys!
oooooooh
i'm getting a RAGING clue right now!
i don't know what to think
I like muse, but jesus, i hate it when people decide to say shit like this. Is he any better informed than anyone else? no. does this sound like the kind of conspiracy theory that rock stars of a certain type LOVE? yes.
and I hate conspiracy theorists (not just 911 ones).
Summing up ALL conspiracy theorists like that...
... shows that you actually are less informed than you suggest that you are. Have you seen the documentaries that Matthew Bellamy has? From the sound of it, no. Otherwise you would be debating the 9/11 topic rather than dismissing it. Watch martial law 9/11 on google video, and follow up the links yourself. Then talk about it.
Also watch TerrorStorm.
Fact - Operation Northwoods was a CIA plan to destroy a US ship (the 'Liberty'), full of US soldiers, and blame it on foreign entities to use as an excuse to start a war. This fact is not debated.
Messed up my facts there
The USS Liberty thing was a different event. Terrorstorm will explain it better.
Google or wiki Operation Northwoods and you'll see what it was about.
Matt Bellamy stupid? I REALLY dont think so....
For all you idiots out there that beleive Matt to be an idiot for thinking what he does about the governments involvement in the 9/11 incident then take a look at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4757274759497686216
or google Terror Storm and make up your own mind - BUT dont call him stupid just because you cant think for yourselves and beleive everything your government tells you!
To me its plainly obvious that the US governemnt were clearly involved..... if they didnt outright order the demolition of the twin towers they certainly let it happen. Do your own research FFS!!
ignorance is bliss...
Strange that those who oppose Matt have nothing better to offer to counter his viewpoint than swearing and abuse. Come on then, offer a well written, factually researched response. I bet none of you have ever heard anything other than the lies and spin churned out by the likes of Fox news. THINK for yourselves, don't believe everything your government tells you. Do some research, who owns the mass media? why do the banks have such enormous power? check out what Bush's family got up to during WW2. Go on Google it - Prescott Bush & the nazi bankers, the Thule society... I DARE you to look into it. The facts are all there, they just won't ever be presented to you on the mass media. Bohemian Grove? Skull & Bones? WAKE UP - you are free... to do as THEY tell you. Big up Matt Bellamy for having the guts and the intellect to speak up. Unlike the brainwashed morons who can't even respond without swearing - obviously their limited vocabulary matches their lack of brain cells.
I await the inevitable responses of name-calling, swearing and general stamping of the feet whilst shouting with fingers in ears!
