Mercury Rev plan download EPs for new album

Mercury Rev have announced that their forthcoming sixth album ‘The Secret Migration’ will be initially released as a series of download only EPs.

The album will be ‘properly’ released in May, but preceding that date, there will be four online EP releases, each featuring tracks from the album, on 25th January, 8th March and 12th April.

The band already released a download only single – ‘A Secret For A Song’ in November this year.

Having landed in our laps a little while ago, we can tell you that the record is really rather good.

Oh. What? The album was due out in January. Have we got to wait ages to get it as a whole album now? How rubbish. That's not a technological advance... it's just silly.

indeed. and in terms of mustering enthusiasm, their last album being mostly a stinky pile of poo doesn't help matters.

HMV and amazon still have the album and single being released normally in January, I really hope that that is the case. It was already coming out that much later in America, maybe this is just for there? Sadly more likely that the sites are just not up with this news though...

I hope this isn't true. Can someone explain to me what exactly the point of releasing the album as download EPs and then releasing it as an album would be?

And there's going to be four releases on three dates? Right...

It's out in Britain on the 24th, tis only in the US that they're doing this. So fear not!
