I'm sure this topic hasn't been done for a good fortnight so here we go again....

Basically i just wanted to let everyone know what my Favourite album of the year is, even though i'm still trying to think about it as i'm writing this ramble. It's actually turning into a really good year on the musical front.

So, my album of the year is...

1) Hope of the States- The Lost Riots

followed by
The Killers- Hot Fuss
The Icarus Line- Penance Soiree

and i just know that Bloc Party will probably release the greatest album of the universe of all time later in the year

Re: Album of the year, so far?

the stills - logic will break your heart
the futureheads - s/t
!!! - louden up now

they are mine so far.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

yep, futureheads, !!!...

i'll add on Bearsuit - Cat Spectacular!
and Super Furry Animals - Phantom Phorce.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

the cure i have to say.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Their album (BP) isn't out until January 2005... but yes, it will be a marvel.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

January?!!! Oh God, my EP is going to be soooo worn out by then!

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Hmmm, close one between Dogs Die In Hot Cars/Futureheads/Silent Drive.

Biffy Clyro and Bloc Party records out later....nice.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Who Killed The Zutons?....by...........The Zutons
Loretta Lyn's collaboration with Jack White

Definitely not The Hives

Re: Album of the year, so far?

I agree with Hope Of The States - The Lost Riots

I'm also really into yourcodenameis:milo - All Roads To Fault though I don't know if I will get lynched for that or not.

I really enjoyed The Killers at TitP but I've happily done without their album...it just isn't making me stick in my CD Player every day.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Junior Boys - Last Exit
Erland Oye - DJ Kicks
Ghostfact - Pretty Toney
The Ponys - Laced With Romance

Re: Album of the year, so far?

ok they're only on p2p thus far but:
1. fiery furnaces - blueberry boat
2. interpol - antics
3. These Arms are Snakes - the oxeneers....blah blah blah.

all pretty brilliant in their own different ways (but the interpol one will be slagged off by know-nowts i fear).

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Interpol are shit.

:p

Re: Album of the year, so far?

never mind son, keep on practising the humourous symbols and girls might like you. let the grown ups like interpol - you might understand it later.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

interpol are a grown-ups band now?

:)

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Haha....yeah, grown-ups that have been pining for some reedy lot with Chameleons/Joy Div/Echo & the bunnymen fixations since their miserable childhoods to come back and sing Proper Songs Like What They Used To while perfecting a live act nearly as tedious as the Strokes'.
And who spend the rest of their spare time making insufferably superior and smug (childish even - in spite of their grown-up TWENTY FOUR big fat years of musical maturity, cough..) internet postings designed to belittle, when someone should dare to have the temerity to speak of the fact they (yikes) think nothing of Interpol. Or, if one should be so juvinile as to use a 'smiley' (you'll have to divulge this highly secret way you've discovered of conveying every subtlety of speech over the internet just by letters – else I might get mistaken for a 9 year old McFly fan, by the cool guys with highly developed musical tastes as they look down their noses at one and all).

Are you actually still in year 10 or something? You must be the coolest person around. I wish i was like kicka11...

Re: Album of the year, so far?

you can't be. but you are a fucking windbag. maybe people care what you think, maybe not, but hopefully it was a real catharsis for you. Showing such spleen for someone you don't know is really something.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

also, you follow the above's messages around like a bad smell. And you can't spell juvenile so don't use it.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

the Interpol album is work of pure genius. Live with it

Re: Album of the year, so far?

McFly :-thats mine have you heard it right through its wicked man

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Hey skinnylong (you racist) why'd all of sudden you decide to start typing in caps?

as for albums
The Empire Strikes First- Bad Religion
Franz Ferdinand
The Tipping Point- The Roots
Tyrannosaurus Hives

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Its still The Streets.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Shins - "Chutes Too Narrow"
Madvillain - "Madvillainy"
Junior Boys - "Last Exit"
Streets - "A Grand Don't Come for Free"

I like HOTS too but too much of it falls short of the mark - e.g. the utterly cringe-worthy "Don't Go to Pieces". Then again, if it was all as good as "Black Dollar Bills" or "Enemies / Friends" it'd probably make my head explode.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

madvillain album is briliant

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Its quite good.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

hmm
squarepusher
miss kittin
the real tuesday weld
clinic

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Chutes too Narrow. haven't really bought many albums released this year, although Please Describe Yourself is pretty darn fine, and the franz album is still pretty good.

Bloc Party will still piss all over the the above from a height though.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

def The Icarus Line- Penance Soiree
and i'm sure Kasabian will be pretty crackerous when it comes out

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Kasabian should be banned from making an album, ever.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

why be cruel to Kasabian?
JOIN THE MOVEMENT!
shush you...

Re: Album of the year, so far?

they started it.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

kasabian were cruel to you?
are you imply on your ears or do you actually know the ickle kasabian scamps and they have actually been cruel to you - like calling you names and throwing sticks and stuff?

Re: Album of the year, so far?

just to my ears.

and the buggers woke me up at Glastonbury when I really needed to sleep.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

ha!
yeah to kasabian :-)

TRANS AM
MCLUSKY
PJ HARVEY
PATTI SMITH

can't wait for the mark lanegan and fiery furnacies albums and still haven't got the new wilco album

http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_view/list_id_is_8769
best 2004

http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_view/list_id_is_8846
best 2003

Re: Album of the year, so far?

the Mark Lanegan album is excellent, as is Wilco... but the FF's?? Twee underdeveloped nursery-rhyme rubbish.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

I can't live with the vocals on HOTS, the music's okay, but the singin sets ny teeth on edge...

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Mclusky or Devendra Banhart. Maybe be beaten by Devendra Banhart again though in September or The new Mos Def.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

new mos def? do you mean medina green or something different?

Re: Album of the year, so far?

There's a new album out on the 27th of September, not sure of the title.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Hope Of The States - The Lost Riots and Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News are so close that I haven't yet made a decision on which

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Gravenhurst with Flashlight Seasons. Its absolutely amazing

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Masta Ace - Long Hot Summer

could be my new #1. Best hip hop anyway

Re: Album of the year, so far?

lostprophets - start something
avenged sevenfold - waking the fallen

Re: Album of the year, so far?

My top 3 shape up like this:

Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdianand at no 1
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free at no 2
Keane - Hopes and Fears no 3

How can we forget the impact that Franz Ferdinand have made this year, they've even had a big impact in America. I do think though that the Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol and Modest mouse should be right up there.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Keane? mmmmm...

I reckon either The Bees - Free The Bees

i'm down with the zero7 album at the mo to, that's fucking ace.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

but I thought the libertines album was going to the best album of this year/all time - I mean everyone alive or dead/not born likes them and they are the most influential thing ever or something

I think the Interpol album will be the best - are we still allowed to like them? - havent read nme for a few weeks so am confused as to what countries we are allowed to like music from -ie if the hives were from wigan and the concretes from Ruislip they'd struggle to get a rebooking at the Verge

help i am confused

Re: Album of the year, so far?

anyone heard the read yellow album? that's surprisingly good...the slower tracks are like ATDi

Re: Album of the year, so far?

yeah it's cool, forgot that one.
sons and daughters is ace too

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Trademark - Want More

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Today it's the new Black Dice. Yesterday it was the Wolf Eyes/Smega split (is that an album? durrr...). Or Black Ox Orkestraar-Ver Tanzt? (did that come out this year? feck it I dunno). Tomorrow it will be different. I am fickle.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

oh and these arms are snakes' debut album.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

never heard of half these bands but i lke keanes album best of aforementioned

Re: Album of the year, so far?

The Stills ~ Logic will break your heart
Hope of the states ~ The lost riots
The Killers ~ Hot fuss

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Gotta be the Futureheads

Re: Album of the year, so far?

franz, streets, keane, snow patrol?

for fucksake, is that the best you can do? I bet you bought them all for £13.99 at HMV and were happy about it. Music pedestrian.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

the Joanna Newsom album is stunning, Mclusky is also good, honourable mention to Sonic Youth, Morrissey has incredibly great moments and incredibly cringeworthy moments, P.G. Six is also very good, liking David Grubbs a lot too.

but the album of the year for me by a country mile is Madvillainy.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

i found The Lost Riots to be a good but not amazing.. it fizzed out by the end. Me Ves Y Sufres is a great song though.. favourite album? Mono maybe?

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Most listened to this year -

Trademark Want More. Perfect pop music.
Alexandroid - False Starts.
The Hunches' Hobo Sunrise is fairly amazing.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

when 65*daysofstatic album comes out (The Fall Of Math) then that will be on [my] list too.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

The Dillinger Escape Plan - 'Miss Machine'
Reuben - 'Racecar Is Racecar Backwards'
Gay For Johnny Depp - 'Erotically Charged Songs...' EP

Doubtless contenders shall appear in the form of Instruction (out on import next week), Biffy Clyro's next masterpiece 'Infinity Land', Jimmy Eat World, and Green Day. And probably a fair few more...

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Franz Ferdinand
The Shins- Chutes Too narrow
Modest Mouse- Good News...
Morrisey- You are The quarry

I didn't think the new Interpol was out yet?
Oh gosh you must like, work in the 'music biz' (HMV) and have a preview copy and on this forum you can show off about it - My god you're cool!

Re: Album of the year, so far?

I can't pick one, so here's a bundle

Squarepusher - Ultravisitor (even though there's a little too much bass noodling and not enough brutal mash up moments)
Tim Wright - Thirst
OOIOO - Kila Kila Kila
Jawbone - Dang Blues
PJ Harvey - Uh Hur Hur
Mandarin - Fast Future Present
Manitoba - Up In Flames
Cocorosie - La Maison de Mon Reve
Two Lone Swordsmen - From The Double Gone Chapel
Nina Nastasia - Dogs (a re-release still counts, right?)

Re: Album of the year, so far?

My girlfriend gave me the Tweaker album '2 AM Wake Up Call' which is pretty damn good.
Candidate had an interesting album 'Under The Skylon' out at the start of the year.

I am looking forward to both IAMX and Bjork.

JX

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Have you been hearing some of the new Bjork stuff they've been playing on the radio? It's so gorgeous.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

Candidate? Are they from Essex? I think i used to buy weed from the brother of someone in that band.

Re: Album of the year, so far?

I don't know if they are from Essex per see. Joel and his brother are from Norwich or something which is north of Essex (I am from South), but possibly.

Everything Bjork does is fantastic (I say everything I mean most things). All the reviews of this record sound like exactly the sort of thing I would want to do if I was that way inclined.
